1 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 11/19/2024

When I bought the car, john, a sales representative, promised me that he would have the car inspected by a mechanic before finalizing the paperwork, addressing issues with the tire pressure monitor, tail light sensor, and license plate light. However, the mechanic couldn't fix these issues, and mike, the owner, directed me to his “personal mechanic” in san bruno. After multiple reschedules from mike, the car began to display an engine malfunction error. I informed mike, and he advised me to mention the issue to the mechanic when I brought the car in. When I finally took the car to his mechanic, I was told that there were no errors, but the error lights needed to be reset at a different shop, as the mechanic didn’t have the required equipment. Despite this, the engine malfunction light remained on, and the car started to shake noticeably while driving. A few weeks later, while driving, the car began emitting white smoke from the hood. I texted mike, asking why the issues weren’t fixed, and I had to tow the car to my house. He did not respond, so I called him days later. He told me to call back after new year's to have the car fixed, even offering to tow it to his mechanic. After new year's, I followed up, but mike forgot about the original arrangement and told me to call back in a week. I reminded him of our previous conversation, and he said he would check with his mechanic and call me back. He never did and ignored my follow-up text. On 01/21/2025, I had a mobile mechanic inspect the car, as it had not been operable since December 2024. The mechanic confirmed that the car had never been tuned, the spark plugs weren’t replaced, and it was not roadworthy at the time of sale. On 01/22/2025, I shared my experience in reviews on yelp and google. Later that night, mike called me, but I returned his call on 01/23/2025. He said that if I removed my reviews, dropped my complaints with the dmv, bar, and attorney general, he would fix the car at his expense.

2 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 11/30/2019

2009 clubman Mini coop fuel pump keeps trying to die when driving. This can be very dangerous when driving on the freeway. It die on me trying to take it to the dealership on l45. Then when I get there they tell me it's older then 10 years. Its still 10 years old. Now it won't even idol right when I start it unless I mess with gas pedal and give it more gas. I have a extended warranty letter that say 10 years or 120,000 miles this issue has been going on with Mini coop for weeks. I've talk to about 7 different people that tell me something different every time I call them. They just won't honor their extended warranty. They just don't care.

3 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2010 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 09/17/2019

6/21/2018, my 2010 Mini cooper clubman s developed serious defects. I drove my car on the leftmost lane of three-lane boston turnpike. Close to a traffic light, I braked to decelerate vehicle but the engine suddenly died without warning, while car was in motion. Both battery and starter worked. I tried multiple times to restart the engine in failure. I blocked traffic during rush-hour. Several cars took across road curb and passed to my left. It made me and my son in dangerous situations. Until a truck driver came to help me to push my car off road. After diagnosis and analysis in local auto shop, mechanic found out the vehicle computer engine control module (ecm) was faulty, not supplying power to the ignition coils. I was charged $2298. 13 to replace defective ecm and $150 for the towing service. The warranty has expired but I believe I am still entitled to a free repair because the existence of such a serious defect in a car which has only run a low mileage of 47,812 miles indicates it was not of acceptable quality. I am a careful and conscientious owner, as the general condition of the car shows. I have not done anything to the car to cause this defect. The defective component is not moving mechanical parts. It is supposed that it has much longer life time. The defect forced me to spend thousands of dollars on replacement costs. To obtain BMW reimbursement in full, I called 1. 866. Ask. Mini (275-6464) and talked to a representative and an escalation manager. The escalation manager emphasized that my car was not repaired at a Mini service center (dealer). If my car was repaired at Mini center, they would arrange a solution however my broken car was far from dealers in either peabody or boston. I file a defect petition to NHTSA. I request the agency do a basic review of my concern and provide a written decision on whether it will begin the in-depth investigation.

4 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2011 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 07/03/2017

4 faulty ignition coils within 3 months: cylinders #1 & # 2 had to be replaced on 4/7/17 cylinders #3 & #4 on 7/4/17. First incident occurred when I was pulling into oncoming traffic and resulted in complete loss of engine power. The second incident happened on the highway while changing lanes, again complete loss of engine power and nearly caused me to be hit by a semi-truck. I narrowly escaped an accident in first incident as well. I do not feel safe driving my children in this car any longer. Each time the parts and labor cost more than $300, not to mention the aggravation of being without a car for work and family transportation for several days. This is not what I expected from a quality automobile made by BMW. Documentation/invoices can be provided upon request.

5 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 06/25/2015

I am writing to formally request reimbursement for a timing chain replacement performed on my vehicle, which was the subject of a specific safety recall issued by BMW. The timing chain defect in this vehicle represents a severe safety hazard, as a failure can cause an immediate and total engine stall while the vehicle is in motion. This loss of power in traffic creates an 100% avoidable risk of collision. Despite BMW recognizing this defect through a prior reimbursement program, they are refusing to compensate for a safety-critical repair on a low-mileage vehicle (58,xxx miles) simply based on the car's age. At the time of repair, the vehicle had approximately 58,xxx miles. Although the vehicle is older, it was in storage for several years because the previous owner was unaware of the recall and lacked the financial means to address it. Despite the period of storage, the car remained in excellent condition, with the timing chain being the only mechanical requirement at the time. The repair was completed by a local independent shop and paid for out-of-pocket. While BMW has recently honored a different recall for an electronics panel on this same VIN, my request for timing chain reimbursement was denied based on the vehicle's age. I believe this denial is inconsistent, as the safety defect identified in the recall existed regardless of the car's age or storage history. I am seeking compensation for the parts and labor costs associated with this safety-critical repair.

11 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2009 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 09/07/2011

After driving to work for 30 minutes, I parked my car. I thought I smelled something as I walked away, so I stopped an looked, but I did not see anything. Five minutes after walking into my building, someone told me my car was on fire. The first witness to see something (a CO-worker) said he saw something on fire drop from the bottom of the car. When I ran outside, the car was putting off a significant amount of smoke. We tried to use a fire extinguisher, to no end, and within minutes we were seeing flames. Five minutes later, the front of the car was engulfed in fire. It was fast and hot. The fire department put it out, but it was a total loss. I have photo documentation of the event.

I parked my 2009 Mini clubman after driving about 10 miles to the grocery store round trip and unloaded groceries, went back out to the car and it was smoking white smoke. Flames started shooting up from the engine over the windshield and it progressed from there. The smoke turned black all windows were blown out, front tires melted and blown and the car was declared an obvious total loss. It caught our home on fire and has caused more than $50,000 worth of damage. Please correct this problem.

14 Engine And Engine Cooling problem of the 2008 Mini Cooper S Clubman

Failure Date: 11/03/2009

My 2008 Mini clubman s was parked at the post office, when someone came in to tell me my car was on fire. I ran outside to find smoke pouring from under the hood, and called the fire department. I ran back inside to get a fire extinguisher, and came back out to find flames coming out from under the hood, along with the smoke. I emptied the extinguisher, but the flames kept coming. By the time the fire department arrived, only five minutes later, the flames were 12 feet high, and the car was totaled. I have found reports of at least 30 other similar incidents of Minis spontaneously combusting, but the manufacturer has, as far as I know, done nothing to correct the problem.
