Frm footwell module failed leaving car stranded problem identified by certified mechanic. Similar models (r55 & r56) in the same age range of my vehicle have been issued a recall, but the convertible model, in the same year, (r57) is not covered. All electric switches in the vehicle failed. Symptoms began with the abs and parking brake warning lights lighting. Other warning light was a service light.

Electrical System problem #2

The footwell module, referred to by the manufacturer as the frm, has corrosion inside. The module is currently staying active and drawing power from the battery at all times. It appears to the same issue as 23v337000, but this chassis number is not included in the recall. I believe that this vehicle has as large a fire hazard as other vehicles involved in the recall.

The contact owns a 2011 Mini cooper convertible. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, the electronics operated erratically and had limited functionality. Electrical System problem #4

Latch on trunk unlocks and releases the trunk while driving. This can cause the contents of the trunk to fall on to the road endangering other drivers. This is a common complaint on the Mini owner site.

Electrical System problem #5

I drove 20 feet out of my garage and smelt a surfer smell. I put my convertible top down, put the car in park walked around to see if it was smoking or if the smell was coming from the engine or mufflers. When I could not detect where the smell was coming from, I put the top back up, closing it and turned the car off. I locked the car and went into my garage. As I looked back I saw sparks coming from the vent on the hood. I yelled for my husband & as he looked for fire extinguisher I called 911 & filmed the car. Within 30 seconds the car was on fire & with 90 second totally up in flames. Nothing but the shell of the car remained. The fire department, police & fire marshal were present. Arson was ruled out. I had a recall part installed at the dealer in 2012 for potential fires. The car was stationary in my driveway shut off. It had not been driven for 20 hours prior to the fire.

Electrical System problem #6

This historical issue has plagued many drivers of Mini USA and many have reported accidents. Is it going to take the loss of innocent lives to have you force Mini USA do the right thing and include all of these known defects fixed?.

Electrical System problem #7

Airbag warning light turned on when driving on highway. The service diagnosed faulty passenger seat occupancy detector and quoted $1,880 to fix. This problem seems common for this make based on forum websites. The car has only 28k milage and sport seats.

Electrical System problem #8

My wife's 2006 Mini Cooper S Convertibles airbag light stays on. This should be a recall, as I'm seeing. On the internet, that many owners of coopers and bmws have this same problem. Very much a safety issue and be advised that you are officially on notice, that this is a problem. Also a tire safety issue included.

Electrical System problem #9

Airbag warning lamp illuminates intermittently in dash and passenger airbag "off" illuminates above rear view mirror in my 2005 Mini Cooper S Convertible. When some sits in the seat it comes on intermittently. When you check the connectors under the seat it goes off with wiggling. Diagnosed by Mini cooper dealership as "cracked seat occupancy sensor" inside the seat. Not repairable only replaceable. Airbag will not go off if passenger in the seat. Mini cooper has covered this for other models, but my car is not covered. Incurring me a $1600 quote for make my car safe for passengers.
