Mini Cooper S Convertible owners have reported 4 problems related to water pump (under the engine and engine cooling category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Back again! I just can't catch a break with this car! I was taking a road trip and had all my fluids checked and filled prior to leaving. While driving hwy99 my thermostat gauge went fine to danger zone! I immediately called the shop and was told to pull into a gas station and check the water and coolant. He stayed on the phone with me while I reported what the temp gaugue was doing. Every time I turned the the guage would drop to fine until the next turn which it went to danger. When I pulled into the gas station I heard a loud clunk. I turned the car off and check the fluids and found that everything was full but the water pump was low. I checked under the car and found a leak. I had the vehicle towed to the shop which the following was found. 1. Malfunction of the water pump 2. Warp headgasket 3. Warp cylinders the extended warranty company agreed to the engine replacement then later stated they would only pay 1500 to replace the water pump, and have the head and cylinders refurbished. My shop has called and spoken to them numerous times without any outcomes. Mini is requesting me to pay out of expenses to have the car put back together and towed 75 mi away to the nearest Mini certified service center, as well as paying for them to tare down the engine for them run their own tests. The service shop said it would be 3500 for everything to be gone through! after Mini completes the above, then they would try to have warranty company replace any items and if they are not covered they would ask Mini to provide it, however I would be out of pocket again! the car is still at the service shop as of today. I am very unsure about the safety of this vehicle and whether I should fix it or sell it. I am already paying for the vehicle loan and insurance for a car that I can not even drive with countless problems. Recalls need to be made! please end this nightmare!.

I bought my used 2009 Mini Cooper S Convertible on December 13, 2012. Approximately 10 months later on October 16, 2013, I noticed an oil leak and a couple days later the engine light came on. Brought it to fletcher's tire & auto off 27th drive and carefree hwy and they diagnosed the issue as the water pump and thermostat housing unit as the reason for the leak and engine light. I paid for the repairs to made. Additionally, had the front tires replaced as they were completely worn. Two months later on December 7th, 2013, the car broke down on carefree highway, I was unable to use the front breaks. My step dad was able to get the car to brake masters in anthem, az the following morning where they discovered that the front two wheels had the wrong rotors and 0 break pads left. According to the technician, the s model requires larger rotors on the front wheels, however scottsdale motor company sold me the car with the same size rotors on all wheels that the regular model Mini's are equipped with. Last December my steering went out on my car. I did some research online and found that a possible class action suit was in the process. I called Mini north America to discuss my findings and to see if a recall was in the works. The customer service agent stated she wasn't aware of any. I took the car to my dealer and had to have 4,000 dollars in repairs. Water pump, super charger and several bearings. I then get a letter in early June of 2013 stating that a recall was in the works and to send all my information in for possible reimbursement. I was told that I qualify and that a check was going to be cut and sent out by the end of June or early August. When the check didn't arrive, I continued to call Mini north America and I keep getting the run around. I was told it was going to be late September or early October. I just called again today and now I'm told it will be cut before the new year. Can someone please put someone's hand on the fire and get this resolved?
