Mitsubishi 3000GT owners have reported 22 problems related to front seat belt retractor (under the seat belt category). The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Normal everyday usage of seat belts. The front seat belts do not work any more they pull out but do not retract back. Mitsubishi says to wipe the belt down with a damp cloth then dry off to remove dirt. This does not work now my front seatbelts do not work at all they stay fully extended and will not retract to provide any restraint in the event of an accident or any restraint at all for that matter. (related vehicle information: model year=1996, make=Mitsubishi, model=3000gt).

I own a Mitsubishi 1997 3000gt vr4, and a 1996 3000gt base model. On both cars there was tremendous slacks in the seat belts. I worry that if not recalled they would do little to protect me in a collision. Please investigate this.

Seat belt doesn't retract properly to perform safely. It is slack when it's supposed to be tight against my chest.
I have a 96 Mitsubishi 3000gt and my front seat belts do not retract after being put on or taken off. If I were to get into an accident they would do very little to protect me. I tried to see if Mitsubishi would fix the problem but they said they are not covered under warranty. Just figured I would let some one know of this problem with the Mitsubishi seat belts.
I own a 1996 Mitsubishi 3000gt that has had both front seatbelts fail to operate correctly. I have replaced these belt twice now and the problem seems to come back after a few months. I feel this is a defect in the product that needs to be addressed by the manufacturer as a recall. This is a serious safety defect.
I have a 1999 mistubsihi 3000gt vr4 and the seat belt tension springs do not retract or lock-up like I beleive they should. My car has done this since purchased in 2003, and I've had an incedent where the lock should have engaged when hard breaking, but the belt did not. Also, when I exit the vehicle I need to feed the belt back into the slot because the spring is too weak to pull it in like every other car I've owned. Many other 3000gt owners have reported similar problems with belt springs failing in car clubs for the 3000gt. Please address this safety hazard with Mitsubishi.

Vehicle: 1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt vr4 the front seat belts do not retract properly, thereby leaving enough slack in the seat belt to deem it unsafe when driving. This was also a problem on my '94 3000gt and I have heard many other complaints about this from many other owners. This is obviously a manufacturer's defect and it should be recalled, as it effects the safety of the driver and passengers.
1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4 seat belts don't retract when you release them and you have to feed it back into the panel.
When the seat belt on my 1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt is pulled on, it sometimes does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint.
I own a 1997 3000gt vr4 and also owned a 1998 3000gt sl. The seat belts in both of my cars do not function properly. When the seat belt is pulled on it does not retract, leaving enough slack in the belt that if an accident were to occur, it would not serve its purpose as a safety restraint. Both seat belts are in great condition with no damage to them. Plus with me having a baby I can not and will not accept this defect of a safety device.
The driver side seat belt on my 1996 Mitsubishi 3000gt vr-4 has problems retracting. If I lean forward, it won't automatically retract to pick up the slack. This has been happening ever since I purchased the car in may 2003. Since the belt won't automatically retract, I have to physically pull it out, then let it go for it to take in all the slack. The problem hasn't been fixed because Mitsubishi doesn't think it is a problem. If it fails during an accident, my death could result.
The driver and passenger seat belts do not retract fully and do not lock in place. I feel this is very unsafe if an accident were to occur. The seat belt is only functional as a waist harness, because this renders the shoulder harness useless.
My Mitsubishi 1999 3000gt vr4's seat belts don't retract all the time. It leaves them loose.
Seat belts do not retract back into holders and remain loose. Do not tighten automatically.
1 - seat belts in the Mitsubishi 3000gt fail to work on a number of cars 2 - this failure to retract is a safety concern and could be major in the event of an accident.
Seat belts do not retract properly.
My driver and passenger side seat belts will not retract normally. They require some extra force. It started where it only happened every now and then and now it is all the time. I have not done anything to correct this yet.
I purchased my 99 Mitsubishi 3000gt used and it's seat belt has rarely worked. I sold my 94 Mitsubishi 3000gt which has the same exact problem. While driving the belt always becomes slack and doesn't retract.
1996 Mitsubishi 3000gt vr4 - driver's and passenger's seat belts do not retract after use. This has been an issue since I've owned the car - purchased in 07/2000.
I drive a 1999 Mitsubishi 3000gt sl. The seat belts in this car do not retract correctly, they actually allow for too much slack and most of the time I have to manually draw the slack back into the mechanism. I feel this lack of function of my seat belts puts me and my passengers in danger. . . I complained about this issue from day 1 to my dealer and was told that there was nothing wrong with the seat belts and that they would eventually break in. Oh, they're broken in alright. . . Busted is more like it. No parts have been replaced or repaired as of yet and I would really like for this problem to be addressed. I have tired of messing with my seat belt, and since I am going to be getting married I fear for my fiancee. She actually likes the car quite a bit, but she doesn't wear the seat belt because she says it is irrelevant to do so since they do not function correctly. I plan on having a family in the near future and this is the reason why I am now complaining about this issue. I will be getting married this December of 06 and hope to have this solved by then. Thank you, robert capetillo.
I own a 1997 Mitsubishi 3000gt and the seat belt restraint system for the drives and passenger side fail to retract. The only way to resolve the problem is to remove the seatbelt while driving and manually feed the belt back into the system.
