One problem related to noises during shifting has been reported for the 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
A grinding noise when shifting from 1st to 2nd and 3rd gears. Also a cracking noise when downshifting into 2nd and 1st gears. Dealer said no problem could be found.
