general problems of the 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse

My rims on my 2000 Eclipse are all bent. I have had to replace 3 or 4 tires due to blow outs in the last 3 years. I will buy new rims and send in all my old ones because this is unsafe and should be brought to the attention of all owners.

Consumer's vehicle has had 6 flat tires and rims damaged caused by potholes and ruts in the road.

I was driving and it a dip in the middle of the road and now my wheel is bent and unable to drive until I find a replacement. Contact me on how to find one and what to do about this issue. I havent been driving my car in about 6 months.

Defective alloy wheels on my 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt: my car has merely 16,000 miles in over 3 years of use and 3 of the 4 wheels are slightly bent to noticably bent. I was walking around my car with someone when he noticed a significant bend in one of the rims. The front right wheel is obviously bent and vibration is felt through the steering wheel at highway speeds. I have regularly maintained the air pressure in my tires to avoid this problem, yet it has happened anyway. The wheels are unacceptable.

Mitsubishi Eclipse (2000) defective wheels.

The wheels are bending which has happened once already before I found out that this was an on going issue. I had them fixed but now the problem is back.

Year 2000 - Mitsubishi Eclipse gt with 17" wheel option - factory equipped 17" wheel/tire option. Dents repeatedly when contact is made with a moderate or larger size road defect. Dented wheels leak air and cause considerable vibration at highway speeds due to out of balance situation dents cause. A wheel suddenly lost all pressure and the tire became unseated from the rim. Fortunately I was able to maintain control of the car because the incident happened at a relatively low speed. The rim struck the ground directly and was damaged where tire contacts wheel. I have seen a number of cars identical to mine and all of them have had at least one dented wheel (17" wheel option). All dents occur where the wheel meets the rim on the outer facing side of the rim. The inner rim does not bend, leading me to believe there is a design flaw. Rims dent at recommended tire pressures. I have already replaced 2 wheels at my own expense, and the replacements now have multiple dents. I have not rotated the tires because the front wheels only dent (I suspect because a higher percentage of the vehicle's weight is borne by the front wheels). If I rotate the wheels, all 4 wheels will soon be dented exacerbating the problem.

Under moderate driving conditions, both front rims have been dented resulting in flat tires and deteriorated control of the vehicle. Dt.

The wheels have failed on more then one occaision, with considerable damage and injuries. Mr.

Consumer states that while driving and no warning the front driver side wheels are bent causing it to be hard for the consumer to control the vehicle. Dealer notified. Mr.

Rim on vehicle are easy to bend when driving over normal potholes or bumps at up to 35 mph. Dealer contacted. Dealer informed consumer that he was responsible for the cost to replace the wheels, the wheels are made out of aluminum.

The wheel was bent and cracked by a minor rut in the road and some minor debris, tire was blown due to crack and bend of wheel (tiresize: 17).

While driving 25 mph, the vehicle hit a pothole and the wheels bent, the consumer had to purchase a new tire.

All four wheels have clearcoat coming off and some have rather large dents. I feel this happens too easily and at far too low of speed. I know others have had this same problem wich leads me to beleive that it must be a manufacturing problem.

All 4 alloy wheels on my mistubishi Eclipse gt have bent over the last 8 months. I have ont hit anything to cause these failures. I replaced one I October 2001, one in February 2002 and I was just informed by the dealership that 2 more are bent. This time, they are bent on the "inside. " I'm not sure how the inside of a wheel gets bent which would seem to indicate to me that this was not the result of an impact. I did not hit anything!.

Front rim is bent without any tire, or rim's lip damage. Tire was inspected by the third party repair shop and found undamaged, but the rim is bent well out of the spec causing vehicle to vibrate at higher speed. Apparently this is well known issue with Mitsubishi Eclipse. Dealer runs me around, offering to repair the damaged alloy wheel instead of replacing it.

All alum. Wheels are peeling. Air pressure will not maintain in front tires. Dealer states Mitsubishi doesn't feel there is a need for a recall with just several hundred complaints. My tires have not blow out yet, and my wheels haven't bent yet as I have read many have. As this is a safety issue, not being able to maintain proper tire pressure I'm hoping to have Mitsubishi initiate a full investigation fu.

2 piece wheel metal is soft and easy to bend and the clearcoat is peeling. No safety defect mentioned.

The bent rims caused the tire to be pinched and popped the tire, resulting in my needing a new oem rim and a new tire (tiresize: 215/50/17).

Was informed by a car wash worker my front left wheel was dented. I had not collided into anything nor anybody. And no one else drives my car. The dealership refused to cover the cost of a new wheel 432. 00. They alleged I might have hit apot hole. It must have been a very small pot hole and I question the durability of the wheels to have caused so much damage and therefore creating aroad hazard or anyone else on the road should the tire have blown out. The wheel was covered not under the warrenty. I question the durability of tehse wheels in usual city traffic.

The alloy wheels is made up of two piece, the outter part is made up of soft alluminium which is very easy to bend.

On two separate occasions while travelling at low speeds a wheel bent and my tire deflated while driving my 2000 Eclipse gt. On both occasions I lost control of the vehicle; it eventually skidded to a halt both times. (tiresize: 250/50/17)( dot number: tire size: 250/50/17 ).

Pe 01 044/alloy wheel: consumer states the left rear wheel received a dent by running over a pot hole. Dealer was notified . Nlm.

The wheels are substandard. I have heard of numerous complaints and that a comparison was done (dateline or 20/20) and that it was proven that the wheels were below standards. The rims are very weak and no where near their retail value. The aluminum along the edge where the tire beads is far too soft. A serious pot-hole, of which there are many in the northeast, can result in a bent edge, with loss of tire pressure. It is a constant problem.

On three separate occasions, I have encountered typical potholes on the highway which have dented the alloy wheels and resulted in flat tires. I have had to pay over $2000 so far to replace the wheels and tires as well as have the tires balanced. Mitsubishi will not reimburse me for this damage. There is obviously something wrong with the alloy wheels, as numerous Eclipse owners have had this same problem, and the wheels should be recalled. I have lowered my comprehensive insurance deductible so that I can claim part of this damage with my insurance company (resulting in increased car insurance bills). I hope these wheels will be recalled soon. Otherwise, I will be forced to buy custom alloy wheels to avoid the constant damage to the car, continued out of pocket expenses, extreme inconvenience, and potential safety hazards to myself and other cars around me.

Right drivers side rear alloy wheel has been dented. Normal driving only - no major potholes have been hit. The wheel has been sufficiently dented that it presents a risk to driving and must be replaced. Car has only 23,000 miles.

When driving wheels become very soft upon hitting a bump or anything of that nature. Took vehicle to the dealer, and nothing was done. Please provide any further information, and vehicle identification number.

All four of my wheels are bent. I bought another oem wheel from Mitsubishi which is also bent. In total I have 5 bent oem wheels. I have all wheels for examination if required.

Consumer states that two of the alloy wheels have dents in them causing the wheels to wobble when driving. Please provide additioanl information. Nlm.

While washing vheicle noticed gsx wheels on passenger front & rear were bending inward. Vehicle had been stored from December-January. Contacted dealershipand informed general manager /service manager indicating that there was no problem with wheels.

Wheel broke down to the hub. Dealer has inspected vehicle.
