While driving northbound on 95 in virginia (about 20 mins outside of richmond) my 2002 Mitsubishi Eclipse's accellerator became stuck. The car ended up overheating and the brakes failed (the front driver rotor actually ripped apart) before I put the car into neutral.
This vehicle suddenly started stalling whether idling, accelorating, or coasting. It would then have trouble starting and run fine again. After taking it to the mitsubshi dealership on western blvd in jacksonville, nc, they could not diagnose it but found in their data base that there is a tiny part in the crank shaft that could cause this problem. After waiting a week for parts they realized they had the wrong tool. Another week waiting for the tool and the new part ddid not fix the problem. Another week of keeping my car they replaced the fuel injection regulator with a used part, this did not fix it. Another week with a new fuel injector. Now it does not stall but I cant get gas in the gas tank, the car smells like gas, there is still occasional stalling, and the new timing belt they put on screeches with the first start of the day everyday. The gas tank problem is found to be that the valve is stuck in the full and closed position and whole new gas tankis recommended. Another two weeks and still waiting on the gas tank. My car has been in the shop since August 22nd and it is now October first and my car is still unsafe to drive and waiting for parts. How is it that Mitsubishi can allow their service department to take this long, cost this much, and to return a vehicle to the customer in worse shape than it was given? I paid for all of these new parts and labor, and still have a vehicle that I cant use. Also, as a side note, it is black which means the cheap factory clear coat is coming off, the ac leaks on the driverside floor, the trunk does not open when you pull the lever. . . These are all things that should not be expired on an 03 vehicle and are so common with this vehicle. This is not acceptable.

My 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse continues to be an unsafe vehicle. Incidences that I assumed were part of regular wear and tear are actually related to multiple recalls. When I shared this information with Mitsubishi, they decided it was not their fault, without even looking at my car. I provided numerous materials to support my conclusion, in addition to offering photographic evidence of my most recent situation. I am disappointed with both my vehicle and the customer service I received while trying to resolve my concern.
Dash is cracking into multible pieces due to poor manufacturing material/standards. Pieces could become dangerious projectiles in a collision.
I have a 2001 mits Eclipse spyder convertible. I have had problems with leaks since I bought the car in 2005. Had it fixed once now the car leaks from all over into my floor boards front and back. My radio has malfunctioned. The car is becoming undrivable due to the flooding. I have insurance which will not cover this and Mitsubishi will not fix it without paying more than the car is owed.
I have a defective paint job on my black 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse. Although garage kept, the paint is self-destructing and turning white on the roof, hood and back sides panels. Also, leak in window of drivers side door that causes 3 inch puddles of rain to accumulate when the weather is bad.
Approximately 1-year ago, I purchased a 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse syder form a dealership with approximately 65,000 miles on it. I checked the records and contacted the original owner of this vehicle and everything was in order. The car was well maintained and serviced. When I purchased this car it had a minor crack in the dash board. It was about 1 inch long. Weeks later, it grew. Also other cracks started to appear. While in the grocery store parking lot, I parked next to another spyder and noticed it's dash was cracked in the exact same locations. Afterwards, I noticed that every Mitsubishi Eclipse 2003 and newer have cracked dash boards in the same location. I researched on the internet and found websites and message boards where owners of Mitsubishi Eclipses complain about cracking dashboards. I took my car to the local Mitsubishi service department. The service manger told me to contact Mitsubishi USA. He said this problem is endemic of Mitsubishi Eclipses and spyders due to a defect in the material the dash is made of and the way the dash board is mounted to the frame of the car. There is no after-market solution. A new dashboard (installation and parts) at a discount is over $1,000. Mitsubishi USA will not help me. They say this is because my car is out of warranty. I am not seeking warranty work. Other vehicle manufacturers make "dash caps" - molded abs plastic covers to fix this type of problem. No such product is made for this vehicle. Further, Mitsubishi USA wants me to pay $1000. 00 for the same defective part that will crack the same way. Mitsubishi says they are not aware of this problem and this is not a "defect". The also state there is no recall on this issue. I would like to keep my car, but the dash board is falling apart. This is very unusual and unsafe. Because my car is a convertible, if water gets into the dash board, my electronic components could short out (including my airbags, horn, lights, etc. ) please help!.

Black glue substance that holds the plastic barrier film inside the driver and passenger door melts and leaks due to high summer temperatures. Water enters between the trunk door, not sealed properly. Vehicle pulls to the right. Vehicle steering is not up to standard.

The paint on my black 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse is peeling off for the second time within a 2 year period. I had it paint in January 2006 by a local mistubishi dealership in clearwater, FL but they only painted the hood, roof and trunk at the time. So now over the last few months the doors and side panels are starting to flake and discolor. I contacted the manufactuer and they told me my warranty had run out so there was out of their hands. They don't believe its a defect, but the paint is going and I'm still making payments on the car. I just thing that is wrong.

I have a black 2003 spyder gts and the clear coat is bubbling and turning white. It started on the hood and has progressed to the trunk, the entire passenger side, the front windshield trim and the spoiler. The problem started in June 06 and continues. The dealer attempted to repair the hood. I talked to the dealer and they want me to wait, is this some kind of ploy to allow the warranty to expire; therefore avoiding warranty work? it keeps getting worse and I'm trying to get them to correct a manufacturer's defect. I have been a loyal Mitsubishi customer (5) but obviously they are not loyal to their customers.

Car is a 2000 Eclipse, black. In 2006 the clear coat began to crack then flake off. Started on roof then started on hood, trunk, and panels above windows. The front and back bumpers are not affected. Within 6 months the spots grew larger and the clear coat on the roof is about 70% gone. Called Mitsubishi, they said go to dealer. I went, they took pictures. Mitsubishi said at first they went by a case by case basis, didn't matter that it was a 2000 model. Then they told me they wouldn't help me because it was too far out of warranty. Contradicting statement from the same representative. There have tv reports done on the paint problem and there are websites dedicated to this problem. Mymitsubishipaintproblem. Com this is not an isolated incident. There are thousands of customers Mitsubishi is ignoring.
We have a 2003 black Mitsubishi Eclipse. The paint is going bad on all the top areas of the car. The clear coat peeling and it is turning white. I have seen many other black Mitsubishi's like this and have seen other web sites that speak of this. It is unbelievable that in two or three years that a factory paint job from a major car company can go bad this soon and in so many cars. What is worse is that they are not acknowledging the problem exists.

Have a black 2002 Eclipse rs, the tires lasted longer than the paint job, yet under the bumper to bumper warranty the paint is not covered!! how can you sell a vehicle when inappropriate paint was used. This paint fiasco happened at 42,000 miles.
I am experiencing problems with the corrosion of my paint on my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipse; I began experiencing problems in early 2005 (just a little over a year of owning the brand new vehicle. ) while my complaint does not involve a safety issue, it does involve false representation of the product and expectations. Several websites contain hundreds of other individuals complaining about the same situation. I have addressed this issue with my Mitsubishi dealer and was turned away since I had exceeded the mileage according to my warranty. I do know that I would not have purchased this vehicle if I knew the paint was so cheaply done or manufactured. I would like to know if there are any recalls on the paint or if there are any class action suits against Mitsubishi. While such items as paint and tires are considered "normal wear and tear", one would not expect their tires to blow out just days after leaving a dealership just as the paint should last until I at least complete the financing period. Again, the expectations of the overall vehicle have not been met, even with normal upkeep of the vehicle. Please let me know of any information that can be offered.
I purchased the vehicle in Mar 2002. Around the end of 2004 the vehicle's paint job began to oxidize. The condition worsened until the whole hood, top and trunk lid paint were thoroughly oxidized. The tops of each door, the front and rear fenders are also damaged.
The clear coat paint on my black 2000 Eclipse is defective. The paint is disappearing on the entire car. It is down to the metal on the roof causing major rust. This is a very serious problem that is affecting Mitsubishi owners across the country. Mitsubishi denies any problem and refuses to fix our cars.

The contact owns a 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse. The contact's vehicle is black. Over a period of time, the paint began chipping in a very progressive manner. The dealer stated that when the vehicle was manufactured it did not have a clear coating, which was causing the paint to abnormally chip. The manufacturer did not assist because the vehicle exceeded its warranty. The failure mileage was 50,000 and current mileage was 99,000.

I bought my used 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse in March of 2003. In June of 2003, my drivers door handle broke. My warranty wouldn't cover it and the dealership wanted to charge me $137 to fix it. I said no way and just started crawling through the passenger side. In November 2003, my passenger door handle broke leaving me with no way to get into my car. Still yet, my warrenty wouldn't cover this. They said this was due to "negligence". Both door handles were broke in the same place and all I did was open the door and they were broke. They are made of all plastic. I have searched online and found that many 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse's have had broken door handles. I am paying $252 a month for this car with an extended warrenty that doesn't seem to be worth anything.
We bought a 2003 Eclipse from sun coast mis. Right away we complained about the smell of mold. Finally we took the car in on a rainy day and my wife got out of the back seat totally wet. They repaired the problem, but we were back again with the same problem. This last time we took the car in we could smell mold again. They found another leak at the fire wall on the pass. Side. We live 66 miles away from the dealership and they have had our car for repairs over 30 days. We have had other problems with the car like paint chips on the hood, side mirrow had to be replaced, the radio cd had to be fixed and other things.
My 1998 Mitsubishi Eclipse has had several problems from the time it was purchased. At 50,000 miles the engine head gasket had to be replaced. And today the engine has a rod thrown and I have been told I will have to replace the whole engine. I had the car in several times before the head gasket was replaced because the oil light came on and off and was told it was just a sensor. After that the light still came on and off and I was told not to worry. The dealership could not find any problem. Other problems that I have encountered have been with the brakes. Frequent brake pad replacement and rotors turned and replaced after only several thousand miles. That was blamed on my driving habits. I have researched and found that all Eclipse have had the same problem with the brakes. Why isn't something being done? also oil leaks and engine problems have been a problem according to the research I have done. What does the manufactuers warranty cover if it does not cover the engine. In my opinion, after 50,000 miles a car should not have to have a head gasket replaced if the maintenance has been done as requested by the manufacter. On July 31, 2002 took car to dealership to have oil leak checked and service dept. Unable to locate oil leak. Advised to have transmission checked. Transmission serviced by dealership. Still had problems with oil light coming on and off. Could this defect have something to do with why my engine threw a rod through it and has made my car worthless? this car is only 4 years old? and still being paid on.
My dashboard is cracking all over and the paint is oxidizing (no clear coat?). I have only used clear coat safe products on my car and these conditions started at the end of 2002 and beginning of 2003. I've previously owned 2 Eclipses w/ no problems, this one however has been nothing but a lemon. 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse gt v6. In addition to the clutch which had to be replaced 1 yr after warranty expired, I have had an abundance of problems w/ parts that should never need to be replaced, none have been covered by warranty. I have replaced every sway bar twice, the a/c failed, the antenna embedded in the rear window failed, one oxygen sensor, the middle rear brake light wiring broke, 2 catalytic converters failed. And the worst is I was going through a headlight a month only to discover that the headlights had actually melted the to the connectors on both sides! and now I may have an electrical fault or faulty valve in my a/c unit causing my heat to kick on when the a/c is turned on.
Engine check light illuminated indicating a problem with head gaskets. Dealer replaced head gaskets. However, engine check light remained on. Cause unknown. Please give any further details.
No injuries: a blow out within a 2 yr period, front left tire flat 13 times, replaced that rim 3 times. Drivers side door, left side of hood, left rear by trunk does not align properly to the right side. Already had a manufacturers defect in my left strut scratches by left tire started out small now are 5 inches wide.
The first week of buying the car I noticed a little scratch by the front drivers side tire. Then I started hearing little squeaking noises when I was reversing coming from the same left tire. Then I noticed the rim was bent I brought it to the dealer they said I was hitting curbs & road hazard. Months later the scratch at the bottom by the fog lights was getting bigger and deep the tire kept losing air and those springing sound noises I still heard. Make the long story short it is 2 years later the deep gashes from the left front tire is now all the wayaround the bottom of the fog lights almost reaching the midde. I went thru 2 tires no blow outs thank god 3 rims and one was a replacement the tire keeps leaking air there is nothing wrong with the right side of the car its all the left front. I spoke to the manufactuer of mitshubshi they are aware of this they said its not a safety issue . Don't blowouts happen due to bent rims? they noticed its only happening in certain states that certain states road conditions are bad. All states have potholes but when you are driving 15 mph, hit a pothole ,& your rim bends causing your tire to leak air something wrong. These rims are constantly bending but on my car it s only the left side. Its unsafe, because when I hit a potlhole it makes a loud banging noise even my brake pedal shakes. If I knew all these complaints I would of never bought this car now I know its not me but the way these cheap soft wheels were made something should be done about this its unsafe and the whole car shakes and steers to the left after hitting a pothole. I dont use my car alot mostly back and forth to work on a highway 15 miles one way. I am tired of purchasing rims at $300. 00 I pay enough for this car and for the money I pay I should have decent rims that can stand driving over a 15-30 mile an hour pothole. I had cars before this never had a dented rim . Something should be done about this there are even complaints on jdpower's website.

Srs light has come on & off several times in the last 6000 miles the service department has replaced seats for the side airbags the light still comes on & off the car has recently been in a collision the front airbags did deploy before I picked up the car the shop manager said they have to change the duram? because the light was coming on & they had put the wrong one in for only front airbags? I still believe it's the same problem we had before the car was wrecked. The second complaint the wheels (rims) bend at every 2000 miles we even had a blow out at 10 miles an hour in town.
Engine check light was coming on and vehicle was losing gas. Check valve had gone bad and needed to be replaced. Also, dealer said that if in an accident it would't rollover, it could catch on fire.
Moldings have been replaced twice on each side. (left and right) last time the dealer cement glued them to the frame of the car only to fly off again. At highway speeds or with top down this is able to cause injury to myself or another vehicle. I have repeatedly contacted Mitsubishi every time and to no avail. The problem still exists and will continue unless they find out why this defect exists. I have taken the car to the closest Mitsubishi dealer located in brandon, florida. They have had the car on their lot since the last incident (July 6 or7th) I demanded they keep it until they could satisfactorily fix the problem so that I would not be causing injury to another passenger on the highway or to someone in my vehicle. April 9th first side flew off (right) 4/11 service took off left side as it was also broke end of April the left side was replaced right side on back order. 6/20 right side part in and replaced and glued with cement glue. Left side taken off and glued also as was broken again. 6/5 right side flew off again! 6/7 carleft at Mitsubishi until fixed. No safety defect listed in summary.

Since the first month I have owned the car, the car frequently idles low (~500rpm) when the weather is warm. Car has no power and will sometimes stall when I remove my foot from the gas. Car has a 5sp manual transmission. Has been into the dealer 14 times for the same failure without resolution. Typically, they reset the "curb idle" which results in the engine check light coming on 15 miles down the road. The dealership has also replaced the iac motor and the mfi relay. Last time, they adjusted the tps switch and the base idle. The failure still persists.
While driving the vehicle lost power. The dealer stated that the sensor needed to be replaced. Ts there was an odor in the vehicle, the clutch had gone out, the rear brakes squeaked, and water leaked into the interior on the vehicle on the passenger side. The consumer felt that the dealer sold her an unsafe vehicle. Scc.
