Seven problems related to vehicle speed control have been reported for the 1999 Mitsubishi Galant. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
I was stopped at a light when I barely let my foot off the brake. My vehichle lept forward, hitting the car in front of me, which caused that car to hit the car in front of him.
No summary listed for above vehicle.
Mentor Mitsubishi should be checked out for fraud-they are not decent people there. No safety defect listed.
Going from reverse to drive, car accelerated and smashed into a mobile home. (details? rdruner31@aol. Com). I was attempting to back out of someone's dirt driveway. I was positioned at an angle. When I backed out (going about 3-5 mph), I bumped into a tree. I then put my foot on the brakes so that I could put the car in drive. When I put the car in drive, the car accelerated at an extreme rate and made a terribly loud noise. The car then thrusted forward (the entire time my foot was heavy on the brake - I am 100% sure of this!). The brake did not stop the car. After traveling about 60 feet, the car then careamed into a mobile home. I turned the ignition off. I believe though that the car was stopped by the metal beams from the mobile home. The car is now at the dealership. I am looking into the lemon law due to this accident and other problems. Trying to get the car repurchased or replaced. This is a revision for odi #716575.

I had pulled into a parking space in a shopping center's parking lot. The car was crooked so I put the car in reverse to merely straighten it out at which point the car flew backwards as if my foot had pressed the accelerator to the floor and held it there although this certainly was not the case. As my foot was on the brake and this was happening I shifted the car into park. All this occurred in a 3 second period and I'm not sure what actually stopped my car- the brake, the gear in park or the car I hit which parked 12-15 ft behind me. I've had a safe driving record for many years and have never had anything like this occur.
After taking foot off of brake pedal vehicle accelerated into a wall at high speed. Dealer has vehicle.
