My heater stopped working. Then the heat would take at least a half an hour before coming on but would only stay warm when I was driving. Cannot keep my windows defrosted in the winter! very unsafe! also, my left, front headlight will go on by itself and will blink, without any key in ignition, it will still come on. Drving at night, headlights wouldnt come on but that front left headlight would blink. I can also hear a clicking sound when this is happening.
Driving down the highway at 65 and the sunroof blew off the car. Glass/brackets/inside cover. Entire thing just separated. Thank god nobody behind me. Checked with Mitsubishi corporate and no help. Claimed not factory installed. Could not tell me if dealer installed - no info at all to track down when installed/by whom/dealer/purchaser etc. Should be tracked down to see if faulty and that it won't happen to anybody else. Repair person could only tell possible bracket rusted out????.
Turned heat on and heard a ratteling noise under dash, when heat came on noise stopped. Turned heat on a week later, nothing, only cold air. Independent mechanic says heater core, after replacing thermostat and coolant sensor. Dealership says heater control valve, either way, with seeing how many people are complaining about the same thing, there is clearly a problem at the manufacturing level. Maybe Mitsubishi should look at doing something like accepting full responsibility and repairing these cars. With the economy what it is there are few people who are able to afford this expense, myself included. Somebody please help us! why should the consumer always get the short end of the stick?.
When going in reverse the car makes a horrible loud noise. The car is still in factory condition and not using any aftermarket parts. Dealer states they have tore down the rear end of another car and lubed and oiled and sat for overnight and did the same noise. Seems to be a very big defect in something used. Cannont understand how a brand new car with very low miles will make such a noise.
Undercarriage of car is rusted.
I have a 2006 Mitsubishi Galant that is out of warranty and only has 65k miles on the odometer. It a black Galant and the paint is fading in spots, it looks like oxydation is setting in, I've tried over the counter polishes to correct the problem to no avail. This imho, is a paint defect and I feel that Mitsubishi should correct the problem. The car looks like like crap now and I am not likely to purchase another Galant if this is not remedied.

I purchased my 2003, mitsubshi, Galant 1 1/2 years ago and I'm having problems with the paint fading on the doors and the hood of the car. After 1 year of having the car it started to fade. My car is a black mitsubshi and with this being a black car the fading really stands out.
In the late winter of 2011 my car heater began to make strange noises then would work fine. Soon after that happened, the heat stopped working. Only cold air would push through the system. I understand that the ac is not considered a necessity, but I beg to differ on heat, considering our technological state. A heater keeps windows defrosted and clear of humidity that would otherwise cloud vision or worse, completely hinder total visibility. The idea of having heat in a car seems like a luxary but, in reality it is really a basic driving need. There is absolutely no excuse as to why a consumer should pay $20,000, brand new, for a car thats heater is all too often broke before 60,000 miles. The cost of repair can easily cost $1000, due to the labor. There have been accounts of them breaking again, one year later. The heater system needs to be researched and addressed in the 03' Galants. It keeps the windows clear so consumers can safely drive their car.
Soon after I paid off my 2004 Mitsubishi Galant I noticed that the paint was oxidizing so I took it to a Mitsubishi dealership and they repainted it for me. It has been about 7 months since the paint job and the paint is oxidizing again. I have seen other black Galants around which have had the same issue, what can be done about this?.
I was with my son leaving a store, while it was 38 degrees outside. After we got in the car and I turned on the heater, it began making a fluttering sound under the dash as if the vents were opening up. With the knob all the way to the red position and the other knob in the window defrost position, I waited for the windows to defrost and the heat to make the car warm. The windows never defrosted and the heat never came on. I had to drive home with the window down in the cold, and my son freezing in the back seat. I had it checked out and the mechanic told me this is a very popular problem with this car.
Electrical - I have replaced my right brake light about 20 times before I was informed it was an electrical issue. I purchased a new socket the light work for 2 weeks and now its off again. Unknown - everytime it rains hard my front passenger floods with a pool of water. This is the second time this has happened now my car smell like mold. The dealer told me there were leaves clogging the hose, out of everyone I know with a car this has never happened to them. I can't wait to trade this car in. I will never ever get a mitsu and I will stop anyone I know from purchasing one.
I purchased my car in 03'. I own a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant which has oxidation (fading paint) on the roof and side panels. The oxidation started in 04'. The dealership has refused to fix the problem.
The contact owns a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant. The contact noticed a crack in the vehicle's dashboard that has spread as the year progressed. The vehicle was taken to a mechanic who has not diagnosed the cause of failure at this time. The current mileage is 43,100 and failure mileage was 43,000.
I have a 2002 Mitsubishi Galant, the knob that controls the air temperature in the car used to make a clicking noise when being turned from cold to hot & vice versa, it stopped making that noise and now I no longer have heat. I have searched the internet high & low and have found lots of complaints that this is a well known problem for these cars and that it is the heater control motor. I was told to file a complaint about the problem.
Well I have a black 2001 Mitsubishi Galant gtz. Within the past year I discovered that the top of my hood started getting white spots. After 10 months they small spots spreaded into white blobs on my hood. I soon found out that it was chalking do to a bad clear coat on the vehical. After doing a little research I found very quickly that many friends, coworkers and family were having the exact problem between the model years of 1998 - 2002. This was not only my state it was mutiple places so I knew it wasn't the weather. What can I do to institute a recall on the paint job?.
1999 Galant clear coat on plastic bumpers, hood, roof, trunk and window arches is all peeling, blistering and cracking. This is mentioned by numerous persons with the same year car. I was told upon purchase of car (before paint had a problem) that 1999 was first year of using a "mercedes" manufactured paint. Mitsubishi claims consumers are at fault for various chemical cleaning products and sun/parking conditions.
I have a black 2000 Galant. After 3 years the paint on the roof began fading. Now the roof and hood are covered with big white faded patches it looks awful. I've noticed the same problem on other black Galants about the same age leading me to believe Mitsubishi's black paint is defective.
I am the original owner of a 2000 black Mitsubishi Galant. The paint started fading within four years of owning this vehicle. I brought the vehicle to a local Mitsubishi dealership who admitted a defect in the paint on the 2000-2001 Mitsubishi Galants. As such, the local Mitsubishi dealer agreed to paint the vehicle on or about 2005. However, Mitsubishi would only approve painting the specific areas which were faded horribly (the hood and trunk which were the first areas that began to fade), although all of the original paint on the vehicle was defective. About a year after the local Mitsubishi dealership painted the hood and trunk, all of the other areas on the vehicle are now fading horribly. Mitsubishi has denied any responsibility due to the fact that my vehicle has 107k miles on it -- although they were only willing to correct the defective paint in part when they were aware of the defective paint. Mitsubishi should have known that remainder of the original defective paint on the vehicle would fade similar to the areas on the hood and trunk. I was not aware of any limits or restrictions by Mitsubishi for correcting the defective paint on the 2001 Galant models. It is not unreasonable that a prudent buyer expect from a reputable and ethical manufacturer an implied guarantee that the original paint on the vehicle will not completely fade away after 5-6 years of ownership. (the only areas of the vehicle that no longer have the original paint are the areas painted by the local Mitsubishi dealership - the hood and trunk). The trunk and hood are the only areas not turning white.
I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Galant and already the heater is gone in it, I have searched the internet and learned that many others that have this vehicle has the same problem I think Mitsubishi should pay for this defect since we paid money out of a-- to replace thermostat,water hoses,etc and the problem still exist the heater only blows out cold air.
I have a 1999 "black" Mitsubishi Galant, which I purchased brand new. The complaint is over the paint job, I have notice several different "black or dark colored" Galant have major damage to the paint job, where the clear coat has totally been destroyed by oxidation. "this is a manufacture's flaw!!".

Since purchasing this 2004 Galant ES in June of 2005, I have been shocked too numerous times to count. It does not happen when you are initially opening the door to get into the car, only after you have already been inside. This has been occurring continually since day of purchase. At first, I though it might be just me carrying around static electricity, but it happens to everyone on any door of the vehicle. It is rather painful at times as the spark is clearly visible, even during the day. I haven't a clue what could cause this, and plan on mentioning it to the dealership at this oil change.
I have a 99 black Galant and the earlier part of 2005 I started seeing my paint fade off. It started on the roof and gradually spead to the trunk. Now the paint has faded off both areas. I want it painted so I called the dealership where I bought my car and asked did they have a recall number but he told me he would need the last 8 numbers of my VIN to see if there was a recall. I didn't tell him what the problem was. So after that I got on the internet to see what I could find and was surprised to see three others complaints about Galants. I have a friend that also has a black Galant with the same problem. There should be something the dealership could do because there are too many Galants with this problem.
My airconditioning system appears to have some type of defect. Three times in the last year, which is how long I have had the car, the airconditioning has become clogged and the pan fills so that when I turn a corner the water from the pan floods the passenger side of the car. I have had the clog removed twice, but have been told that there is a defect in the way this is made. It should not do this.

Street long island city 718-361-6900 service advisor anthony serrone told me that there was no recall for my car and I made an appointment for 01/04/09 at 8:00 am to inspect my car for danger signs check engine light stays on all the time, I was told I need idle control module to be installed and noise from the bottom and braking makes rough sound and the smell of fuel in the car and feel heat from the bottom of the car.
At 4 years old my 2000 Mitsubishi Galant's bumper started peeling. At 5 years old my roof (by the sunroof) started severely fading. My car is black and I have a huge white spot on the roof. I am extremely worried what will happen this winter with the paint. Not to mention such a young car shouldn't have such a problem with the paint and it looks horrible. Mitsubishi should be ashamed that the car looks the way it does. I contacted them and they told me it was out of the 3 year warranty and wouldn't do anything about it.

The contact owns a 2000 Mitsubishi Galant. The contact stated that the vehicle's dashboard began cracking soon after the warranty expired in 2004. The dashboard has continued to crack. In July of 2005, the fuel filler door detached and the cd player stopped operating. After being informed that her warranty did not cover any of these components, she decided not to take action. She is pursuing it now after realizing that several others are experiencing the same failures. The VIN and engine size were unknown. The current mileage is 99,900 and failure mileage was 38,000.
The fans makes noise and there is no a/c - heat. Dealership says that it may be the heater control unit. Searched the web and alot of mits. Galants are having this same problem.
On the passenger side, above the rear wheel, the paint began to bubble and eventually rust. This began approximately one year after purchase. It is now rusting more. I took it to the dealer a couple of years ago and they told me it must have had a bad repair job. However, I recently saw another Galant with the exact same problem in the same location.
Car stalls when stopping, and vibrates. Fells like car is not getting gas. Rpm's go up while driving. After 3 attemps, two different dealers claim they cannot come up with a code, so not sure what to do. Any suggestions? what other complaints have you received?.
When the car is warmed up and the air conditioning is turned on the air blowing out on the floor area is much warmer than the air blowing out in the upper area of the car. In order to get cool air to come out on the floor area, you have to use one of the last two cold air conditioning settings. The problem with this setting is that the air blowing out in the upper area of the car is extremely cold. Two different dealership service departments have checked the car and they reported that this is the normal operation of the car.

Steering-car pulled to the right -remedy, tech said steering wheel off center, adjusted and cross rotated front tires. Brakes-grinding -remedy, tech said caliper supports were faulty, replaced supports and turned rotors, they would not replace rotors. Other-hood was not secure in hood latch, bounced up and down. -remedy, tech said hod latch out of adjustment, still bounced after car was picked up.
Engine light keeps coming on, and each time consumer takes vehicle back to dealer. Engine light comes back on inside 48 hours.
1999 Galant clear coat defective. I bought the car a year old and within the next year the clear coat started to flake off the roof and trunk. I believe that there was a defect in the paint that was used. I have seen several with the same problem. I believe that the car is to new to have this much paint damage. And no I have not used anything on it, such as chemicals or so on that has been previously stated by other dealers. I consider this poor manufacturer and should be corrected by the manufacturer.

The vehicle experienced braking problems which may result in extended stopping distance and cause a crash. Dealer replaced rotors and pads. Problem still occurring. Please provide further information.
