There is a major gas in my car. The spell is there 100% of the time. When you come within 20 feet of the car. . . You get the overwhelming gas spell. I'm afraid to drive the car at all now. I'm a single father on full disability, with a 16 year old daughter with no mother. I can't afford the gas which doubled due to the gas leak. More importantly. . . I can't drive my daughter to school. . . Anywhere.

On Jan. 9, 2013, while I was backing up my Mitsubishi Galant 1998 (VIN # 4a3aj56gxwe003158) in my driveway, I noticed that the car started moving on its own and I had to keep my foot on the brake. After backing up, when I drove forward, my car seemed to be quite jumpy and wanted to lurch forwards. At a traffic light about half a mile from home, while I was stopped, I noticed that the car started moving forwards. I immediately slammed hard on the brake. This was extremely unusual and scary. Later while going down a hill, I could sense that the car was again quite jumpy and wanted to accelerate on its own. I stopped at a shop for something and then when I got back to the car and turned on the engine again, I noticed that the ¿check engine light had just come on. I felt that the car was not safe and had it towed to klahanie chevron in issaquah, wa, very close to my house. I was later informed by them that the ¿idle control motor for my car was malfunctioning and due to this I was experiencing all these car ¿jumpiness issues. The ¿idle control motor was replaced and now the car appears to be running fine. I have always been more than up to date with my car maintenance. The behavior of this car in which the car was accelerating on its own is dangerous and Mitsubishi engineers should look into this for possible recall\remediation, since this can greatly endanger the lives of people in the car and anybody else sharing the road at that time.

The contact owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Galant. While driving at approximately 5 mph pressure was applied to the brake pedal. Once the vehicle reached a stop the engine began to rev. Heavy pressure was applied to the brake pedal but the vehicle began to move forward until he turned the steering wheel to direct the vehicle onto a curb. The vehicle was shifted into and he was able to turn it off. Upon restart the it operated as normal. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where he was unable to diagnose the failure. The failure has recurred approximately 6 times but the vehicle was never taken to be examined for the cause of failure. It was never repaired. The failure mileage was 50,000 and the current mileage was 62,000.
: the contact stated while in a parking lot, the vehicle accelerated without warning causing a crash into a wall. The wall sustained minor damage and a police report was taken. The vehicle was towed to an independent repair shop. The dealer was not contacted.

- the contact owns a 2006 Mitsubishi gallant. The consumer put the vehicle in drive and all of a sudden, the vehicle accelerated to 60 mph and the steering wheel locked. The ocnsumer could not turn it at all. The contact used all of the strength in her arms to turn it a couple of inches avoid hitting a light post. When she tried to stop the vehicle by pumping the brakes they did not work, she could not turn the ignition off. The vehicle finally stopped when she ran up on the curb and hit a sign that was being held up by cement. The contact hit the curb in an attempt to keep from crashing into another vehicle. The contacts insurance agent suggested that she have the vehicle towed by the dealership, who refused the vehicle. The agent then had the vehicle towed to a collision center near where the vehicle had crashed. The vehicle was repaired at the collision center and then taken to Mitsubishi, where they said that there was nothing wrong with the vehicle. The contact stated that after the repairs had been made it would accelerate or decelerate on its own. The contact was afraid and did not want the vehicle anymore. The contact was told by dealer that they were going to trade and that she would get another 2006 Mitsubishi. The failure mileage and the current mileage were both 11,000. The contact received a 2007 Galant. The contact has included the insurance claim for the vehicle, and requested a letter from the mitubushi dealership stating that the car was defective, however mitubushi is stating that there were no problems with the vehicle at the time of the accident. The consumer also stated the air bags failed to deploy. The consumer stated there was no police report. *update 5/3/07.

While trying to get out of a convenient store parking lot, I experienced one of the most unusual and dramatic situations of my life!!! as I started my car and put the automatic gear on reverse with my foot on the brake, the car just took off on a very high speed making tire marks on the parking lot and the car stopped from the gas pump area. When I tried to bring the car back to the parking space to see and evaluate the situation, as soon as I put the car in the drive position it just took off again towards the convenient store with this huge engine noise and the brake would not work to stop the high speed engine! the vehicle's tires made a very strong and lasting image on the parking brick and went over it to crash in to the store! the third time I tried to get out of the mess and put the car in reverse and again it went back ward charging towards the gas pumps area with strong engine high performance noise. Very strange and scary malfunction of the engine speed control!!!.
When accelerating from a stop vehicle accelerated to a high rate, causing it to hit a wall. Dealership was notified, but did not resolve the problem.
I was stopped at a light when I barely let my foot off the brake. My vehichle lept forward, hitting the car in front of me, which caused that car to hit the car in front of him.

After backing out of parking space I put the vehicle in drive and it started racing on its own I applied brakes but it just wouldn't stop ended up hitting 2 other vehicles.
Mentor Mitsubishi should be checked out for fraud-they are not decent people there. No safety defect listed.
Going from reverse to drive, car accelerated and smashed into a mobile home. (details? rdruner31@aol. Com). I was attempting to back out of someone's dirt driveway. I was positioned at an angle. When I backed out (going about 3-5 mph), I bumped into a tree. I then put my foot on the brakes so that I could put the car in drive. When I put the car in drive, the car accelerated at an extreme rate and made a terribly loud noise. The car then thrusted forward (the entire time my foot was heavy on the brake - I am 100% sure of this!). The brake did not stop the car. After traveling about 60 feet, the car then careamed into a mobile home. I turned the ignition off. I believe though that the car was stopped by the metal beams from the mobile home. The car is now at the dealership. I am looking into the lemon law due to this accident and other problems. Trying to get the car repurchased or replaced. This is a revision for odi #716575.

I had pulled into a parking space in a shopping center's parking lot. The car was crooked so I put the car in reverse to merely straighten it out at which point the car flew backwards as if my foot had pressed the accelerator to the floor and held it there although this certainly was not the case. As my foot was on the brake and this was happening I shifted the car into park. All this occurred in a 3 second period and I'm not sure what actually stopped my car- the brake, the gear in park or the car I hit which parked 12-15 ft behind me. I've had a safe driving record for many years and have never had anything like this occur.
Car would not stop approaching red light/no air in line detected.
