1 Steering problem of the 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 01/12/2024

The front subframe(cross member) blew out, due to excessive corrosion. Causing the control arm to dismount as well as separation of the cv axle from the transmission, while traveling down the road losing complete steer of the vehicle. Luckily I was coming to a stop sign and not traveling on the highway. My vehicle was last inspected in April of 2023 with no warning signs of there being an issue. I've recently done some research and gathered information regarding models from 08-10 Mitsubishi Lancers having the exact same issue. I contacted my dealer about the issue and they stated there are no current recalls on my year vehicle. Although they also started that the part number on my subframe is the same part number that failed on the 09-10 models. There should be a recall on 2012 Mitsubishi Lancer subframe(front cross member) I hope this issue is resolved! I was fortunate to not have been injured! my vehicle has not currently been inspected after the accident because I had it towed back to my house after the accident because I was unsure what to do about the situation. The vehicle is available to be towed to be inspected if need be. A police officer did pass me and checked to make sure I was alright while I was stranded in the middle of the road while waiting for a tow truck.

2 Steering problem of the 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/24/2023

I was driving down the road and spun out of control because my rack and pinion steering inner and outer tie rod snapped in half, because of rust from salt water and corrosion on the metal, resulting in my loss of control and front passenger wheel turned 90 degrees inward and nearly ripped the front tire off and under the car, brought the car home and inspected it tthoroughly, and saw the immediate problem.

3 Steering problem of the 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/14/2022

I got a service needed warning for the electric power steering and I lost all power steering. . . As it turned out, the rack and pinion was bad because the subframe rotted out where the rack and pinion mounts up and a custom built subframe and rack and pinion had to be installed on the car at a cost of almost $5,000. . .

4 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 12/20/2020

I heard a clunking noise. Parked and found rotten parts on tire. Mechanic said it cannot be fixed. Everything rotted. Needs whole new frame. We could have been killed. Thank god I was close to home. Now I have nothing but an existing car loan for it.

5 Steering problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 03/24/2020

There has no been an incident yet. The vehicle rattles in the front end, exactly where the recalled part is at. I took it to the licensed dealership that I was told was qualified to replace the part and they refused to replace it claiming that the vehicle is too rusty and they don't want to lift it up on the air. I had just had 4 new tires put on it recently and they used a car lift without any issues. I would like the part replaced because now I'm worried about the defect causing a serious accident if it is not replaced. The reason it is being recalled is because it is prone to rust and may deteriorate over time and that is exactly what is happening and they refuse to fix it.

6 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 06/26/2019

I was driving my car to work this morning and all of a sudden I felt a drastic pull to the left. I get out of the car and look at all sides of the vehicle and don't notice anything right away. Then I notice my left front wheel is turned slightly while the steering wheel is straight. I look under the vehicle to find the sub frame rotted and rusted away from the control arm. This is a huge safety issue as this car has 123k miles and being a 2008 car, just 1 year later than the recalls currently up to 2007 for the same exact issue. The recall should be extended to the 2008 vehicles as well due to the insane amount of complaints on this specific sub frame rotting issue.

7 Steering problem of the 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 04/07/2019

My abs and asc lights have been on for a while. Took it to a mechanic and was told it wasnt a problem, just a faulty electrical system. One day, I was coming off an exit ramp trying to brake so I could turn but my brakes wouldnt engage so I slam on my brake and they locked up and my car slid and crashed into a median. Tired to steer away but it wouldnt turn.

8 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

The control arm was corroded and spring rusted through and broke. Had repaired in March of 2019. Should be covered under recall. Sent invoice and receipt to Mitsubishi however they are saying it did not meet time frame for repair and are refusing to refund any of my repair costs.

9 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/27/2018

While driving on back street the car started pulling dramatically to the left. On further inspection it was noticed that where the wheel connects to the subframe there was excessive rot the point the wheel was no longer attached at the bottom of the subframe. Contacted Mitsubishi. They said the Lancer (and other models) had a recall on excessive subframe rot but only years 2002 to 2007 for the Lancer. Mine being 2008 is not recalled. I will have to pay for repairs $2000. This is a huge safety issue as the subframe holds the wheels on, and the engine in place and it had a catistropic failure which could have easily resulted in loss of control and loss of life. I was not notified of this or I could have informed my mechanic to carefully look for subframe rot (most inspections are just by site). Had anyone hit this subframe with a hammer they would have seen it was dissintegrating. The car does look like its recalled in canada " transport canada recall 2016317, which was issued on June 21, 2016. The recall involves 64,305 Mitsubishi outlander and Lancer models manufactured between 2003 and 2013. " Mitsubishi customer relations has informed me today that I will be responsible for the repair. This is not right. Failure of a subframe is a very rare event. Its clear this subframe has the same exact problem as the Lancers built the year before. The outlander also has the exact same subframe. The dealer has my subframe in stock because its exactly the same as the outlander (which is covered). I am hoping they realize that not informing customers of this dangerous situation could result in possible loss of life. Informing the Lancer owners up to 2013 (as they did in canada) could save lives.

10 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 08/27/2017

At 50 km/h, when turning the steering wheel to the left of 90 degree, the vehicle was not turning and going straight forward. Some sound of tire-metal was being heard from the front left wheel. With someone outside, we were seeing at low speed that the wheel was rotating off axis and even touching the car body. After being towing to a canadian tire, the technician mentioned that the cross member was so rotten it was actually breaking in two parts and it was so dangerous, he could not let me go without part replacement. The mechanic technician told me that other Lancer had the problem even a 2009 Lancer. They referred me to the transport canada recall # 2016317, however this one is only for Lancer 2003 to 2006 (and also outlanders). Note that my problem was the same car part as the recall mentioned above. I called the dealer ship to verify the cross member car part vs the older model and the part number was different. I'm wondering how different from 2003 to 2006 the cart part is! they also mentioned that Dodge caliber has the same car part in problem with extended warranty. I found this article related to this https://Chrysler. Oemdtc. Com/457/front-and-rear-crossmember-corrosion-x69-warranty-extension-2008-2012-Dodge-caliber-Jeep-compasspatriot/2.

13 Steering problem of the 2014 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 09/17/2016

I was driving on freeway in the center lane switched to left lane and car immediately and violently jerked left and I had to use struggle to keep the car from veering off the road. I have gone through 4 sets of tires car has been aligned 5 times and it will not steer straight and requires immense effort just to keep it on the road whenever the crown of the road is on the left. This is a known issue with this model dating back to 2008 and it a safety and defect hazard. Until someone gets killed or maimed the manufacturer with just deny anything is wrong with this particular model vehicle. Thank you.

15 Steering problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/11/2016

Recall info: "the inside and outside surfaces of the front cross members used on certain vehicles if exposed long term to snow melt water and anti-freezing agents may corrode due to insufficient performance of the rust protection. Should corrosion occur, a lower control arm could become detached resulting in loss of vehicle control and potential collision. In may 2016 we had to have the lower control arm replaced along with the front sway bark link assembly. " I believe this is all part of the corrosion mentioned above in the recall. Car was moving when lower control arm became detached. $285. 00 to replace lower control arm & front sway bar link.

20 Steering problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 07/29/2010

When driving my Lancer either on city or highway, it refuses to shift. The rpms go up, but the car wont accelerate. It actually slows down as if I'm pressing on the brakes (and im not) then out of nowhere the gear will shift and the car lurches forward unexpectedly. It does this all the time. The last time it did it I ran into a car. This is a huge hazard. When I step on the brakes the car almost stops, then jumps forward about 2 feet before actually stopping. This is a horrible thing to do to a driver. The car literally has a mind of it's own and the dealership refuses to do anything about it. I've seen complaints about other owners with the same issue and all of them say that their transmission died completely thus leaving their car permanently motionless. I can't even look forward to getting this fixed. . . I can only look forward to. . . . . Nothing. I can't sell the car nor get a new one because I've spent so much money on this Lancer and nothing fixes it. I was told that it was the brake pads, the transmission fluid, the catalytic converter, the tires, the gas pedal line, and air in the brakes. . . I had all of these things replace and no cheap costs and it's still not fixed. Please! order Mitsubishi to recall this defective transmission! it should be a crime to sell such a defective and deadly product. Mitsubishi should be investigated! also, when the car's rpms are above 4000, the power steering dies and I cannot turn left or right, thus I lose all control of the vehicle. I've taken it to the henderson nv dealership and they said that there was no type of recall and everything should be fine. . . . I've nearly crashed and probably could have lost my life countless times. Countless. Mitsubishi should be banned from making vehicles in America!.

21 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/23/2008

2008 Lancer pulls to the left. A bit more noticeable at higher speeds. Aggressive pull to the left. Took to the dealership to take a look at it. They did nothing. I called again and they said they heard nothing of this problem despite many many people having this same issue.

22 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/18/2008

The car pulls to the left very strongly, and have had the car at the dealership 3-4 times to have them try and fix it with no avail. They aligned it and rotated the tires, but this fixed nothing. I stressed my concern with this that the tires would wear out fast since it isn't aligned right, and now, at 4300 miles, all four tires are worn out bad, feathered on the outside, and inside is almost down to 2/32nds, and the dealership I bought the car from refuses to do anything about it. I filed a claim with mitusbishi themselves, and after reviewing the case, said the car is fine, and all four tires have even wear and they closed the case, even though all the tires are worn out different, some worse than others, and the car still pulls to the left.

23 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 01/01/2008

My car, Mitsubishi Lancer gts model 2008 is pulling to the side. I got this car new, it was pulling to the left from the beginning. After they did an alignment, the car is pulling to the right. The amount of pulling is very big, for example if, at 60-65mph I release the steering wheel it rotates right instantly with a half a inch, and the car changes the lane to the right in 3-4 seconds. I don't know if the car or the tires are wrong, but this is very serioos safety concern for me. I've search on the internet for people with similar issue, and found out that most of the people with Mitsubishi Lancer gts have this problem. So I believe Mitsubishi knows about this problem but just don't want to admit it. . Read more...

24 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 12/20/2007

My 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer pulls to the left. This happens when accelerating, braking or coasting on both crowned and uncrowned roads. It is a well documented problem on internet web forums for Lancer enthusiasts.

25 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 05/26/2007

When I first got the car on my way home I notice that the car is pulling to the left. I then took my car to the dealer and they told my that the air in my left tire is low on air. The dealer try to fix this issue with not help. I then had an alignment done but that didn't help either. Now my tire is wearing out uneven and the Mitsubishi won't do anything for my car to have this problem fix.

26 Steering problem of the 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 04/21/2007

I have had an 08 Mitsubishi Lancer gts for a year now and have had serious problems with the car pulling left since the very first week I owned it. I've had the car aligned 5 times now and no success. The car will drive fine for less than a week and it starts to pull left again, sometimes driving off the lot after an alignment, it would still not be corrected. My tires are wearing unevenly on the outside edges as well, and are now the tires are worn down to the tread indicators. I need new tires but don't want to waste the money without a solution to this problem first.

27 Steering problem of the 2002 Mitsubishi Lancer

Failure Date: 10/18/2002

Lower control arm on front passenger side of vehicle buckled under resulting in loss of steering control and the vehicle striking a curb at ~55 mph. Dealership refuses to fix under warranty citing there is no proof that hitting the curb did not cause the damage. I was informed by the dealership that there had been a similiar incident the previous week involving another Lancer. On this vehicle the failure was on the front driver side of the vehicle. This failure also resulted in a loss of steering control as well as striking an object with the vehicle. Dt.
