The car was parked on a quiet neighborhood street and there was nothing remarkable about the weather conditions. After starting the engine and putting the car in drive, the engine accelerated spontaneously and uncontrollably in very little time, causing the car to crash into a building after only a few seconds. The car traveled a very short distance but witnesses said that the car continued to accelerate as it approached the building. The driver had intended to make a right turn but was unable to do so due to the velocity ithe car was traveling. The crash was not due to driver error. The driver sustained very serious injuries and was hospitalized. The driver will need extensive rehabilitation. The car was totaled. The crash occurred in the afternoon.
