Mitsubishi Mirage owners have reported 20 problems related to door hinge (under the structure category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Mitsubishi Mirage based on all problems reported for the Mirage.
Poor manufacturing leading to eventual operational failure. The hood hinge on the right side of the vehicle has seized up. This has placed a great amount of stress upon the tiny bracket attached to the hood; causing it to bend and structurally fail. A similar problem is now beginning to propagate over to the left side of the hinge and bracket. This makes opening and closing the hood extremely difficult, along with the hood not properly closing. Also, the top hinge on the passenger side door has also seized up placing a severe amount of stress on the attached bracket and bottom hinge. The amount of stress caused by the seized hinge has forced the bracket through the door; piercing the metal. This problem has also caused misalignment with the door, resulting in it not closing/sealing properly as well as rubbing against the front right quarter panel. The cost of the damages will result in approx $700. 00 in repairs for a vehicle a bit over 6 years of age. Currently nothing was done to correct the damages. We spoke with a district representative who was rude and pretty much tried to deflect questions with no clear answers in an attempt to frustrate us and make us stop bothering him. We are currently in the process of appealing to the corporate office to see what can be done regarding this obvious (as shown on this sites many consumer comments) manufacturing flaw.

I own a 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage that I bought new off the lot. I noticed it had trouble shutting several years ago and it had a loud squeak. About a year later the drivers side door had the same issue for a few months in the winter but stopped in the summer. This winter (2006/2007) the passenger door started acting up once again. It wasn't until around easter that I was with my daughter shopping and after 3 or 4 stops the door wouldn't close. It had dropped about 1 inch so it no longer lined up. When we got home I checked the hinges. The door had cracked around the connection point so the door is pulling away from the hinge. I have taken the car to 3 different body shops and they all confirmed it is rust that caused the failure. I believe this is a manufacturers problem and should be treated as such. I had taken it to the dealership where I bought it several weeks ago and they took pictures but have never contacted me back. They said that although I was within the number of years for the corrosion coverage I was over the allowed miles. Anybody will say the number of miles has nothing to do with it. Rust happens over a period of time. In fact I have seen other car companies that have a time limit for the corrosion yet unlimited miles. If Mitsubishi had this it would still be under warranty. The estimated cost is anywhere from 1000. 00 to 1500. 00 depending on if it can be repaired or has to be replaced. I have tried to call the Mitsubishi customer relations but when I press the number to connect to the complaint department nothing happens and eventually a voice comes on that says "if you would like to make a call, please hang up and dial again". I am concerned to let my kids ride in the car and even if no one was in the passenger seat if for any reason the door fell off while driving it could cause a major accident. At this time I am afraid the drivers door is following the same path yet just hasn't shown it yet.

Passenger side door hinge problem. Door was increasingly difficult to open or close for one month, the door wouldn't close enough to turn off the door ajar indicator. After taking it to a body shop, they determined that the hinge was the problem.

A few months ago, the passenger side door started becoming difficult to close. I thought at first the hinge needed to oil, but that did not help. Soon, the door would not close at all unless I lifted it up and slammed it. Twice my wife almost fell out because the door was not closed all the way. Today I took the fender off to see what the problem was, and the bottom hinge has completely busted through the door! when opened, the door hangs down two to three inches because the bottom hinge is shot. Then I find out from other complaints that this has been a problem with previous years of this model and with this one also. Why hasn't NHTSA forced a recall on those problem? this is a serious safety issue, and one that I have discussed with a lawyer. Could someone respond to me please?.
Bottom hinge on passenger side door is seized up. When door is opened , the part of the door where the hinge is secured starts to flex. It looks like the hinge is breaking loose from the door. This problem has not been repaired yet.
The airconditioner compressor blew a pressure valve because one of the valves stuck. This car is a 2001 mistubishi Mirage is only 4 years old with 67,000 miles on it, and the air conditioning is only used for half the year as I live in the midwest. I have been told that it will cost between $1,200 and $1,600 dollars, which is about half of the trade-in value. I called Mitsubishi and they told me there is nothing they can do about it because it is out of warranty. I have a feeling I am not the only customer who has had this problem.
Driver's' door hinge failure - door falling off vehicle. No accident occurred, just started happening. Mitsubishi denies a problem, dealer will fix for 600 +. This should be recalled - I found more than 5 dozen complaints regarding this issue in the 1998, 1999, 2000 Mirage vehicles.
The passenger side door hinge has collapsed, because it was not aligned. The driver side door is beginning to do the same thing. At this time no one can sit on the passenger's side. The opening and closing of both doors is consistent with average / normal use. Passenger side door can not be closed from the inside as it need to be lifted and closed at the same time. . . . . . . .
Driver's side door hinge problem. Door was increasingly difficult to open or close for approx. 4 mo. Last month, the door wouldn't close enough to turn off the door ajar indicator or cabin light. Finally, the door became misaligned so that closing it wasn't possible anymore and would catch with the car's side panel. After taking it to a body shop, they determined that the hinge was the problem; it was cracked, bent, and was "scraping" against the door, a complete door replacement is needed due to the damage. I believe the passenger's side front door is also showing early signs of damage. Car is no longer under warranty. I decided to report the problem after noticing complaints of a similar nature regarding the 1999 Mirage.

While vehicle was parked consumer noticed that both driver and passenger side doors would not line up properly in order to close. Consumer drove the vehicle to the dealer for inspection, and mechanic determined that the vehicle was working as designed.
When shutting the passenger door consumer noticed that the door hinges cracked. This was causing the door not to close.
On 9/3/03 my 2001 Mitsubishi Mirage would not idle and kept cutting out every time you came to a stop. I took it to rick case @ 18300 rockside road, bedford, OH 44146 because this is where I purchased the vehicle. The car had 30563 miles. They replaced the idle speed control motor and valve, fast idle air which was under warranty. Then on 10/6/04 the same exact thing happened to the car. This time the car only had 46013 miles. I had to pay for the same exact repair which cost me $520. 39 which is outrageous. They say it was different but when I got the invoice both invoices have the same parts and same description on what they replaced. I have both receipts. I think I was ripped off and that they should have replaced it since it was the same problem. I bought a new car hoping I could at least get several years without headaches but that's all this car is and I will never purchase another Mitsubishi and especially from rick case in bedford ohio. Also, on 6/11/03 I took the car in for front drivers and passengers door hinges to be replaced and the rear door belt molding to be replaced because it was coming off. Both door hinges were replaced but they kept my car for 3 days. Now its July 2005 and my drivers door won't shut and the door light stays on and the door is off alignment. The door hinge is gone again. I hate to take my car in again and be charged again and again. Shouldn't this be covered because they did the same exact work in 2003.
1999 Mitsubishi Mirage passenger side door hinge cracked. Opening door drops down and will not close properly. Interior light and door ajar light stays on. Dealer says not covered under warranty. Only have 37,800 miles on car. Drivers side door hinge not cracked yet.
I was given a 1999 Mitsubishi Mirage by my insurance company after an accident in my 1997 Mirage. When I received the car, the passenger side door was difficult to open. Over time, the door became increasingly difficult to close and it eventually became misaligned, dropping when it was opened. In July 2002, the door became unusable because it could not be opened far enough for a passenger to enter. I took it to a dealership, where I was told that the hinge had rusted shut due to underuse and that I would have to take it to a body shop. When I took it to the body shop, I was told that the dealer was not telling the truth because this was a very common problem with this model of car and that the hinges were defective. The body shop told me to contact Mitsubishi directly. I called Mitsubishi's customer service line and was literally told "it is not under warranty, there is no defect and it's your problem now. " I have since been able to find on your website that this is in fact a very common problem.
The contact owns 2000 Mitsubishi Mirage. The front driver and passenger side door hinges broke. The door hinge dropped, and the door simply fell off. These two occurrences happened over a period of five years. The doors were hard to open ,and the contact had to lift the doors to close them properly with normal use. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, who said there was nothing they could do about it. The hinges were replaced by the contact at his own expense. The second time this happened about a week ago. No repairs or corrections have been made due to the fact that the contact has not located a new set of hinges. The contact has not contacted the manufacturer.
Consumer stated the driver and passenger side door frames are cracked due to defective lower door hinges.
Lower hinges on drivers side door froze, causing door frame to crack. Door hangs down which damaged fender. Passengers side door frame is also cracking. Dealer contacted.
A crack developed on the lower hinge of the passenger's side door. Dealership replaced the upper and lower door hinges, but the crack recurred.
Door hinges are not properly rotating causing the hinge to have bent the interior of the car door and cause trouble being able to close the car. The hinge is obstructing the closure of the door and causing damage to it. Dealership is claiming that the door was previously bent from strong winds or by a strong opening of the car door. Nothing of this sort has happened- no winds strong enough in chicago to make such a bend in the door fixture and my own strength could not cause the damage that is implicated by the dealership. This should be a warrantied issue and risks our safety because the door progressively releases the hinge and does not provide a secure interior by not being able to close shut. Driver's side is worse, I suspect because of more frequent use. The passenger side door is showing the same type of problem and will progressively begin to be a hassle to try to close. I suspect that it will also cause the problem experienced on the driver's side.
Front driver's side and passenger's side doors have began to fall at hinges. Doors are unaligned. Dealer has been contacted.
