Air Bag Problems of Mitsubishi Montero

Awhile back my horn stopped working as if it was stuck down. I found out this was because of a problem with this cars airbag breaking down that causes this - and that there is a recall because these airbags are dangerous if they go off. I received a letter at one point from Mitsubishi about this. I filled out a form a long time ago when I got that, I also emailed them before, I also have tried calling them a few times. They never get back to me. There is no Mitsubishi dealership in my town so I cannot take the car there unannounced without driving 2 hours to another town. I do not want to do this if the airbags are unsafe, so the car has been sitting for a long time because of this issue. I want it resolved. I do not care if Mitsubishi or a mechanic or whoever does it, I just need it done so I do not get killed by my airbag, I don't want to pay for it since it is covered by recall. Please let me know how to resolve this. Thank you.

My horn goes off when I turn the steering wheel or hit bumps when driving and when parked and turned off, if its close to freezing it will go off constantly early in the morning before dawn and I have to disconnect the battery or pull the fuse for the horn under the hood fuse panel to stop it. I can't drive it with a horn fuse in and have tried replacing the steering wheel airbag and it still has the same problem. My neighbor had the same issue on his 04 Jeep and his car was fixed with an airbag actuator recall. No warning lights ever come on. Only my mechanic has looked at the vehicle.

At the moment the only situation that I have had with the Mitsubishi airbag recall is that when I call the customer relations department they say they do not have the parts, that supposedly the Mitsubishi company has not yet sent the replacement parts. . . . . I have to call within 2 months to see if the parts have arrived at the repair shops.

In the dealer , I makes the appointmemt to 7am, and the dealer nimay Mitsubishi, Ave. Kennedy 1011 san juan, pr no work with the car at the 200pm. No work with the hours appoinment. The work is horrible.

It has been almost a year since this recall was issued and still there is no remedy. I feel that this is very unreasonable considering the defective airbag could cause serious injury or even death as stated in the recall notice. Please pursue this and help us come to a solution for this as quickly as possible.

I went to a Mitsubishi dealer and they said there's no part to do or fix the recall.

Tl the contact owns a 1998 Mitsubishi Montero. The contact discovered that the VIN was included in NHTSA campaign number: 20v035000 (air bags) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that parts were not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact had not experienced a failure. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The horn goes off by itself the pads where stuck and it cost $1000 to repair since it needs to remove the steering airbag,this should be on a recall. . Read more...

Tl-the contact owns a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero sport. The contact stated that while driving at approximately 25 mph under rainy condition, the vehicle skid causing the contact to lose control of the vehicle and crashed into the guard rail. The driver frontal air bag deployed and rip opened burning the contact¿s right hand. Also, the contact sustained bruising to the chest, arms, and back. In addition, the contact suffered from head aches due to smoke inhalation. A police report was filed. The failure mileage was 180,000. Pam.

Randomly the factory alarm goes off throughout the day with the horn blaring. After a while, the alarm drains the battery, even if it resets. Fuses have been changed, relays, and a reset by disconnecting the battery- to no avail.

The horn stays on. Had to unplug it. It is part of the air bag in the steering wheel.

The horn randomly sounds off during the night. I've discovered its a temperature thing. When its cold or the interior cools down the horns starts to blow, but when warm everything is fine. So mostly at night this occurs. This should be a recall! as the connection ring inside the airbag is clearly faulty. The only fix is to replace the air bag or pull the fuse to the horn. How is this safe? I juts bought this car and found the horn didn't work. There was no fuse! so I replaced it and that's when the problems occurred. Clearly the fuse was missing for this very reason.

Aging of the cosmetic vinyl covering on steering wheel that covers air bag module will contract too much in cold weather, approximately 40 degrees f or lower causing car horn to go off even without engine running. The vinyl covering squeezes the car horn contacts that are just under the cover and on top of air bag module.

I have had an issue with my truck because the horn quit working several years ago. I was told by the dealer multiple times that the airbag has a metal ring inside of it that makes contact to activate the horn when pressed. They claimed the ring has either deteriorated or broken internally and that is why the horn doesn't work and is a very common issue for years with these trucks. Based on the current recalls I am wondering if that also effects the airbags and if they will work properly or if there could be metal shards in there that when deployed could pose a safety issue.

Takata recall - my late husband and I were in a SUV rollover accident in may 4, 2006. Our vehicle was rear-ended by another SUV and ultimately involved four (4) vehicles total. The airbags in our vehicle did not deploy and my husband died later from complications induced by internal bleeding. Police report filed and sent to manufacturer with no response or comment. Noticed that there are several airbag complaints with ntsb for my vehicle type with no open investigations. My husband¿s death should trigger some type of investigation or concern from both ntsb and the manufacturer.

No parts were available for recall#d17 concerning air bag clock spring. Massey yardley, 772-546-1800.

Roll over accident in 2001 Montero ltd. At 65 mph the truck was rolled over 2. 5 times and ended up resting on the passenger side. Of the four airbags available, not one deployed. The drivers side rear passenger exterior door skin, passenger side front interior and exterior door skins were completely removed. The roof was resting on the steering wheel. Passenger side windshield pillar separated at body. Drivers side headrest bent at 90-degree angle towards hood. Pictures available upon request.

2 seperate head on accidents in this vehcile and the airbags have failed both times. This time the abs also did not work. Dt.
