Air Bag Problems of Mitsubishi Montero Sport

On Tuesday August 31st I pulled up to alexandra tire shop to get a tire. I got out of the truck to inquire if the tire that I needed was available. The mechanic informed me that they had the tire I needed. My wife sat in the car on the passenger side as I inquired with the mechanic. Once he informed me that they had the tire, my wife got out of the passenger side to take a seat while the tire was being changed. The mechanic instructed me to get in the truck and pull it forward. I got in on the driver side, crank the truck up , and the airbag exploded, cracking my windshield and my dashboard. Prior to this incident there were no warning indication on my dashboard concerning a default. My wife was put at terrible risk. Had she not exited the truck 2 minutes before the airbag exploded. She would have been injured.

Plug wires seem to have continual manufacturers mistakes, the oil is forced to direct a path to the plugs caused to misfire.

This week I have had two occurrences where the horn just starts blaring and won't stop. Once was in the afternoon, and the other was at 5:00 am. My only diy alternatives are to disconnect the battery (obviously can't use the vehicle), or remove the fuse (very unsafe). The vehicle was stationary, no weather problems, temperature was mild (around 70 degrees). Prior to this happening, the horn rarely worked at all; at least not when I wanted it to work. I googled the problem and it appear to be very widespread on this vehicle. From what I have found out, it involves removing the airbag assembly, so getting it fixed is very costly (over $1000). I expect to spend some money on a few items here & there on a 16 year old vehicle, but I don't expect to spend over $ 1000 on a vehicle just to make the horn work right.

2002 Mitsubishi Montero Sport; the car horn/alarm goes off usually when a drop of temperature occurs in the middle of the night. To fix . . . Has something to do with a short in the electrical of the air bag and the steering wheel column. Very expensive for a mechanic, over $1200. I have to unhook my battery every night and on colder days. Researching online. . . . . A lot of people are disabling the horn/alarm system and driving without horns. Or they are tampering with the air bag to try and fix. It is a very common problem. . . . . . . Today I could not drive the car because every time I hooked the battery cable back up the horn stayed on. I am considering disabling the horn altogether.

The consumer owns a 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport. On 10-11-05 while driving on the interstate there was a wreck in front of consumers vehicle. When the consumer applied the brakes, they would not stop the vehicle. The brake light had come on earlier that day. The contacts vehicle hit the vehicle in front. Upon impact, the air bags deployed but not all the way. The vehicle was totaled. The contact sustained injuries. (11/15/05).
