2 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 01/02/2004

Brake rotors and pads replaced every 3,000-4,000 miles. Dealer claimed it was driver's abuse that caused premature wear of brake rotors/pads. Consumer was furious. Currently, after 4,000 miles. Brakes were shot.

3 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2003 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 01/01/2004

By 20,000 miles the truck's front brake rotors were so out of round that the truck is very difficult to control durring braking. The dealer reports that the braking system, and more importantly the brake pads are not covered under the new car warrenty. This is rediculous. I have never needed to have a truck's braking system serviced before 80,000 miles.

5 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 04/23/2003

With less than 40k miles on my 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport, the brake pads have been replaced three times, the rotors replaced once. Now two local mechanics tell me that my vehicle's brake pads cover less than 50% of the rotor, causing significantly reduced braking capability. The root cause appears to be that the vehicle has 14" rotors on trucks designed for 15" rotors (and 15" wheels). The result is that the brake system wears out quickly and, in the opinion of my local goodyear dealership, presents a severe safety hazard. The goodyear dealer actually told me that he would not recommend driving the vehicle.

6 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 04/22/2002

The rotors and braking system on the 2001 Montero Sport are undersized for the weight of the vehicle. At 4217 miies, the rear rotors had to be turned. They warp badly, making it very hard to contol when breaking. Now at 37k they need turning again, if possible, or replacement.

7 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 05/29/2001

Our dealer informed us yesterday that both front brake rotors on our vehicle are warped. This has occurred with only 22000 miles on the new vehicle. After investigating further, we've learned that this problem is quite common for the Mitsubishi montero. Based on the experience of others, we may very well have to replace both rotors every time we replace the front brake pads. This tendency for abnormal, accelerated wear of the rotors is an obvious safety issue. Excess wear can lengthen stopping distances, making it difficult for drivers to avoid obstacles. Given the frequency with which this problem is occuring (abnormally high rates of rotor warpage), we believe the problem is best explained by either manufacturing defects, or, more likely, a design flaw in the brake/rotor system. Both the dealer and Mitsubishi customer service have been contacted and the problem disucssed at length. Neither party is willing to replace the rotor assembly. Rather they simply wish to turn them - an approach which only delays correction of the problem and ensures added customer costs. Please investigate this as we feel it could be a serious safey issue with this particular vehicle.

8 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

Failure Date: 04/14/2000

At 3000 miles rotors started to warp, brakes would pulse. Also, the slower consumer would go the harder it was to stop.

9 Brake Disc Rotor problem of the 1999 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

The air conditioning dispells an odor similar to urine when turned on. The front end of the truck shakes badly when the brakes are applied at 50 mph or greater. Both of these problems continue even after the repair work. The a/c problem has never gone away . All the dealership does is apply a deoderant but it does not help. The rotors have already been changed once and the brakes were also changed. The tires were even rotated but the vibrating continues.
