The front subframe crossmember on my vehicle is severely rusted out. There is currently a hole measuring about 2"x1". I previously had two other holes on the bottom welded as a temporary fix, but the rust just kept eating through the metal and it's now beyond saving. Because of this structural damage, the car is unsafe to drive and cannot pass a nys safety inspection. I know Mitsubishi recalled earlier Outlanders for this exact crossmember rust issue, but later model years like mine seem to share the same defect and are currently excluded. There were no warning lights on the dash—I only found out how bad the failure was during an underbody inspection. It also looks like the ac condensate drains directly onto this area, which seems to be accelerating the rust. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
Rear liftgate lock release handle Mitsubishi part number 5810a089 (100% electrical) failed due to excessive moisture penatration in this area causing abnormal rust to the liftgate in the same location. I now notice other vehicles like mine have the same rust condition in the same area. I wash the vehicle on a regular basis and I keep it in a heated garage when I'm home.
Tl- the contact owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that the lift gate opened, beeped and came down with force. After a while, it did not open at all without force. The vehicle was taken to the fuccillo Mitsubishi dealer, located 18822 us-11, watertown, NY 13601 and was told that there was no recall. The contact referenced a recall, NHTSA campaign number: 16v867000 (structure) and stated that the failure was exactly what the recall addressed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that there was no recall and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000. The contact owns a 2015 Mitsubishi Outlander. The contact stated that while attempting to mount the Mitsubishi roof mount rack, the vehicle roof rack securements points fractured due to rust. The vehicle was taken to the kelly Mitsubishi dealer located at 536 state Ave, emmaus, PA 18049; (610) 967-2101 where it was diagnosed that the area needed to be cleaned with the wd40 and brush. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact felt that the cleaning would not do any good for the failure. The manufacturer was contacted at 888-648-7820 and stated that there was nothing they could do other than the wd40. The approximate the failure mileage was 42,000.
