1 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/06/2026

While driving, the vehicle will randomly shut off and lose all power. If I jump the car, it starts up and runs fine for a while. Also, there have been several incidents when I park the car, and it immediately loses all power and needs to be jumped. I have had the battery, alternaor and starter checked, and all are working fine per the mechanic. There have also been instances when we are pushing on the gas pedal, but the car appears to be losing power, and we have to pull over to the side of the road, wait a few minutes, and then the vehicle will start and run fine.

2 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2025

I keep getting the 4wd system service pop up and my vehicle stalls at 40 and jerks a lot.

3 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 11/08/2022

I’ve changed the battery at least once or twice within the first 2 years of purchasing the vehicle from the dealer with zero miles on it. Lately (in the past 2 months) I’ve changed the battery at least four times or more. Some expensive batteries as well. In the past 2 months, it’s been giving me problems including stalling on me, slowing down on the highway, sometimes won’t start at all, sometimes it’ll say electrical system service required. Once it said four-wheel drive system service required on the highway as it slew down and I had to pull aside. I’ve noticed some recalls on the vehicle via internet research. It may not be specific to my vehicle, but it does seem very familiar problems with my vehicle. Such as electrical system: starter assembly: relay, electronic stability control, electrical system: software and even with the transmission. I’ve towed the vehicle to the Mitsubishi dealer in totowa, NJ today. I was informed that my specific vehicle doesn’t any recalls. Service advisor did say there are other similar vehicles did have those recalls but mine didn’t come up on the recall.

4 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/08/2022

Transmission had to be replaced. Lighting issue cabin.

5 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/06/2022

This 2017 Outlander has had issues with the tire rod multiple times. It needed to be fixed approx every three months and the tires needed constant changing as well. This vehicle had a timing chain issue which left me stranded in the middle of the high way. The power stopped, the car started to jerk back and forth and it would power off. We had to get this car towed to three seperate mechanics as no one would work on a Mitsubishi and I was told it was the timing chain with possible engine damage. Prio to all of this happening the radio and electrical system would freeze or automatically turn off and on, it never resolved and blue tooth was rarely able to be used.

6 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/26/2022

Used my e brake and now my rear is grinding. My car just hit 30,000 miles. I’ve put 12,000 on it. Brakes work fine. Only happened after I used e brake.

7 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 10/13/2021

Each door latch on our car has had to be replaced, all at separate times since we bought the car in 2017. The door latches will not lock/unlock with the fob or driver panel. It causes a safety issue with the door. It could come open (from failure to latch) while driving and people can fall out. It does not lock/unlock when you lock the car from the driver panel or fob and people can just open your door and enter it. Which has happened to us. The only way to lock/unlock it is from the inside from that door, since the fob, driver panel do not work, but then you have to scoot across the seat and come out the other side of the car to get out of the car, and then you still can’t unlock it unless you scoot back over and unlock that door since there is only 1 door with a key entrance, the driver door. It’s not been a recall on this specific year (2017) but it has been for 2016. We are now replacing our 4th latch because of this issue, hopefully the hatch does not do this as well. Many others with the same year car have had the same problem, I’ve seen many complaints online, and still no recall has been made about the door latches for 2017. It’s a huge safety issue not being able to lock and unlock your car door, or the door possibly failing to latch and someone falling out of the car door.

8 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2020

The passenger map light does not turn on when the door is open and will turn on all on it's own. The vehicle was in motion.

9 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2020

My greatest concern is the engine stalling while driving, new battery draining so quickly , the vehicle shaking while idle then shuts off. I cannot understand how my vehicle was not added to the engine stall recall even with these problems replicating what Mitsubishi identifies in there past recalls. This is very dangerous because macanics or diagnostic computers cannot identify problems with the car but after driving it for a good while or maybe a few hours the car could just shut off in the middle of no where in a highway which has already happened to me endangering me and my family. I write to NHTSA today so that my vehicle as urgently as possible can be included in a investigation for this vehicle to be included in Mitsubishi's recall.

10 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 04/04/2020

The vehicle won't start. Battery keeps draining, I have to charge the battery with a charger each time. I believe there is a defect in the electrical that continuously is drying the battery. Had it checked a year ago where I purchased the car and they told me I could opt to have them install in a trickle charger to resolve the issue, of course at my expense. The vehicle has less than 8,000 miles presently. When purchased new it had 300 miles. No longer under warranty, if the battery continues to drain I feel it has an electrical defect not just a battery issue. This has happened twice in the last week or two.

11 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/16/2019

Every two or 3 weeks I have to jump the truck to get it started even put a new battery in it. . . . I have brought it to the mechanic and brought it to the Mitsubishi car dealer to diagnose the problem and couldnt find any. . It gets very annoying to see if the truck is going to start or I could be stranded somewhere . . I bought the truck in July and it has installed a new battery and the dealer cannot diagnose the problem. . . . . The truck has only 37,000 miles.

12 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2019

My interior lights do not work properly. Initially when I noticed the problem, one side was working and the other one was not. Now, none of the lights works. Additionally, my headlights are not working properly either.

13 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/09/2019

When driving and coming to a stop the vehicle jerked and I pressed on the brakes vehicle rear ended vehicle infront of me. Sensor did not go off and vehicle was at fault.

14 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 02/09/2019

I went to start my car in the morning and out of the blue the airbag service required light came on and won't go off.

15 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2018

Sometimes when I push the push start button to start the car it doesn't go down making it unable to start the car.

16 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 09/20/2018

Vehicle first presented with the check engine soon light illuminating. This happened simultaneously with the engine losing speed. The car decreased by ten mph while I was driving on a major highway. With the foot pushing down on the gas pedal no acceleration was about to occur for several seconds. The vehicle then returned control back to me and I was able to regain highway speeds. I have taken to the local Mitsubishi dealer beginning as far back as sept of 2018 this car five times fully under warranty. Five times they returned the car assuring me the problem was resolved. I have recall sr-17-005 of certain Outlanders and lancers that I located online. Under the NHTSA website my VIN is not under recall, however the relay is what they told me was wrong and repaired. The experiences and description of symptoms match recall accordingly. The check engine light illuminated again yesterday 04/22/19 and I will again be returning to the dealership. Now though I have lost my confidence in their ability to rectify the problem.

17 Electrical System problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2018

Airbag system service required light comes on and off constantly while driving on any type of road and while parked. Mitsubishi dealership states that the passenger seat got wet and the light will go off when the seat dries. The seat has never been wet and the passenger floor is not wet either. Dealer refuses to fix the issue.
