Check Engine Light On problems of the 2003 Nissan 350Z

My wife was driving the 350z on the highway and slowing down with traffic ahead. The engine stalled all of a sudden. The cars behind could have smashed into her and kill her. Luckily that did not happen. I searched the internet, it looked like there were many cases of 350zs stalling. Internet told me that it was caused by faulty camshaft position sensor, which was exactly what Nissan dealer in dublin California replaced. In fact they replaced both camshaft position sensors. Check engine light did not come on when the vehicle stalled as indicated by the dealer. The engine would not start despite many tries. After 10-15 minutes or so, the engine started and the check engine light came on. Some of the 350z was recalled. However dealer indicated that my VIN number is not on the list. I feel the Nissan should pay for my $674. 44 repair bill as it is very dangerous for a vehicle stalling while driving.

My car shutoff as I was driving. The mechanic said it was the cam sensor and there was a recall on it. Nissan says my car isn't covered under the recall that explains the exact problem: recall campaign number: 03v455000 my check engine light came on Tuesday and my car shutoff while I was driving causing a very dangerous condition if I was going faster on a highway. The car wouldn't start and I had to have it towed to the dealer where they aren't willing to fix it under the issued recall for the exact same problem!!.

The incident first occurred during highway driving where the engine suddenly lost power completely. Since the manual transmission was in gear, the engine "push started" itself with a violent surge motion and regained power. This happened about three times on this trip. When I got off the freeway, this happened as I slowed for a stoplight and the engine stalled completely since I was not in gear. This problem seems to be very dangerous since all engine power is lost at high speeds and the jolt that results from the "push starting" can cause the driver to lose control of the vehicle very easily. This problem happened intermittently but did not cause a check engine light until last week. It is showing code p 0340 and I have found that Nissan is aware of this issue, but does not recognize it as a being associated with my VIN number- this is hard to believe since my car was produced about a year before the recall notice (recall id #03v455000) was issued. I was informed by Nissan representatives that the only way to appeal my VIN#'s applicability to this recall is through the NHTSA. My case # with Nissan is[xxx]. In 2005, I bought a 2003 Nissan 350z. In early November of 2011, I started having these problems. The engine would die suddenly while driving, the check engine and tcs lights would come on, and the car would run very rough once it did decide to start. I took the car into a Nissan service center on 11/08/2011. The mileage according to the service invoice was 83,906. Along with the problems noted above, the service technician added diag p0340 and c1130 stored, loss of engine signal. Replaced camshaft and crankshaft sensors. My cost for the repair: $618. 61. My car had not one, but every symptom of a recalled car. The camshaft and crankshaft sensor (very specific repairs) were needed to correct the problem; same as a recalled vehicle. After bringing this to Nissan's attention, I was contacted by a regional manager who stated my car was not on the recall list and she could not help me. I hope no other vehicles engines shut off while on the interstate.

2003 Nissan 350z original owner. While driving around 40 mph, engine stalled, twice in 2 hours, check engine light came on. Coasted to side of road, waited for maybe 15 minutes and engine restarted both times . I took the car to the dealership, left it with the service manager who drove it home that night to try & recreate the problem. Was told if they could not recreate the problem there was nothing they could do. They could not recreate the problem. About a year later a recall was placed for the engine sensors but my VIN number was not on the list, so no replacement. It has never happened since then. There was less than 20 thousand miles on the car at that time.
