Nissan 370Z owners have reported 68 problems related to electrical system (under the electrical system category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan 370Z based on all problems reported for the 370Z.
The srs light came on on the dash. Car is 10 years old, but only has 24073 miles on it. Nissan dealer identified error code b1018. Occupant sensor in the front passenger seat failed. Nissan quoted $4767 to replace the passenger seat base assembly. Stated sensor was integrated into the seat and could not be replaced without replacing the entire seat cushion. It is interesting to note that Nissan had a "voluntary recall campaign" for the exact same issue on the 2007-2008 Nissan 350z. Nissan technical service bulletin 08-095d is germane. The problem is described as a failed occupant classification system varistor in the front passenger seat cushion. This is a sensor that lets the car know whether or not an airbag should fire, depending on whether or not there is a passenger in that seat. Did Nissan ever correct this safety issue? I contacted Nissan consumer affairs, (case 42872979), but they were no assistance (only stating that the vehicle was out of warranty). This is a safety item that, in my opinion, Nissan should warranty for the life of the vehicle, or at a minimum acknowledge that they have had a problem with the same component on the prior model (350z). The srs light comes on on the dash, and blinks intermittently. The passenger airbag light near the passenger seat stays permanently lit. In virginia (where I live), you cannot pass state safety inspection with the blinking srs light on your dashboard display. Has to be fixed. I repaired the issue myself by acquiring a second hand (used) seat. However, as I previously stated, Nissan should pay for this problem that they previously acknowledged in the tech service bulletin (faulty occupant sensor), but apparently have not fixed.

My vehicle has only 12,400 miles, and the passenger air bag light will not go off and the airbag light in the dash keeps blinking. Millions of Nissan vehicles have had the same problem. I want my Nissan dealership, where I purchased this vehicle ( m’lady in crystal lake, IL ), to fix this at no cost to me.

My vehicle is equipped with an electronic steering column lock (escl) that locks the steering wheel when the vehicle is parked and turned off to help prevent theft. On some vehicles, due to a manufacturing irregularity, the escl may malfunction after the vehicle has been locked and could prevent the engine from starting. This condition, should it occur, will only occur when attempting to start the vehicle, which happened with my Nissan 370z yesterday. Thank god I wasn;t stranded in the middle of nowhere. And luckily this did not happen in the middle of an intersection or other busy road. I have read that Nissan has already recalled this part for their 2009-10 Nissan altima, altima coupe, altima hybrid, and maxima vehicles but have not read about including their 2009-10 Nissan 370z models. Multiple 370z forums confirm that the 2009-10 370z models have the same issues as the recalled Nissan models. This needs to be corrected. 2009-10 Nissan 370z customers shouldn't have to pay for the new part and labor just like Nissan altima, altima coupe, altima hybrid, and maxima customers don't have to.
I purchased my 370 z at the local dealership and I am a loyal Nissan customer. This is my second z and my family of 9 cars is a large base for your vehicles. My daughter-in-law purchased a new Nissan and we will be shopping for my wife's new car in June when she retires. My air bag warning light has been flashing for a week so I brought it to the local dealer today. My vehicle has 38,000 miles. I was told that something under the passenger seat has to be replaced to correct the problem. The cost: over $3000. I can't afford to pay this. I asked the tech if the air bags were functioning and he answered no so my wife and I have no airbag protection. I ask if this falls under the airbag problems that have been in the news for years? is my wife and I in danger? please review the airbag issue and direct me to my next option. I fear a liability issue. Thank you.

Steering colomn lock issue has stranded many people on this vehicle. The part is defective and Nissan will not replace. Happens when parked.
For years, there have been widespread defects in the electronic steering column lock (escl) that disabled the push-button ignition in a wide range of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. The escl's primary job is to keep the steering wheel locked until you bring your key fob in range of the vehicle. It's meant to prevent theft. However, when the escl malfunctions (even with the fob present and working) the escl won't detect it and, therefore, won't release the wheel. When you press the start/stop button to start the car, nothing happens. However, the "intelligent key warning light" symbol comes on, indicating you have a problem. Nissan has been aware of this issue fo years and has issued a voluntary service campaign for various models. However, they have not done so for the 370z, even though this model is experiencing the exact problem as the models included in the voluntary service campaign. This malfunction has nothing to do with general "wear & tear". This malfunction is due to a defective part and poor engineering. I am asking NHTSA to encourage Nissan to conduct a voluntary or mandatory recall to address and correct this issue at no cost to vehicle owners.

Car is in lock mode. Will not turn to acc or on.
The steering column lock device has been failing daily. I bought this car in March of 2014 and I have all of the paperwork that shows the previous owner took it to autonation Nissan chandler and under recall p3208 it was supposedly fixed in 2013. I didn't even own the car til 2014!the ntb13-014 also was on the invoice. It says they replaced the steering wheel lock unit- I have spent over $20k on my z ( not including the price of the car, and I can't even get larry h miller Nissan to take care of it. They want $1500. I just don't understand how larry h miller Nissan knew about this and new the dates it was fixed at the other dealership, and failed to notify me when I brought it to their attention. I have all my invoices for work done, and a Nissan w 44,000 miles has had endless problems -please help. I am disabled, and this is a huge financial burden for me,I really had a lot of confidence in Nissan taking care of their customers - it seems that isn't the case- on June 27 I got into a small accident and it ended up costing geico $14,850. 35 - when they brought it back the fuel management system had gotten loose since it's located underneath the passenger side in the gas tank and is a typical problem with 370 z's and they wanted me to pay for it also the car is riding a lot lower to the ground than it ever was the black bumper guard at the very bottom is all scraped up and that never happened before so either the front shocks or struts are lower than before. I love my z and I've put over $40,000 into it and now I can't get people to do what they're supposed to do because they don't want to the people who fix your car's know about all of these consistent problems & they should fix them and it seems like they don't want to fix problems that arise with the same model. I had to have my insurance adjuster call just to get the fuel pump fixed. Nissan wanted me to pay for it.
The light on the dash comes on reading there is not key in the car when in fact there is. It happens with both my fobs. Now, the car won't even start and I have to use the key to get inside it. Happened when stationary then while driving.
Steering wheel lock sensor broke, failed in lock position, happens to most every Nissan fob key system at 1 time or another. The dealer charged me $1100. 00 to fix and it took them less than 2 hours. This is a scam by Nissan and the internet is full of people compalining about this issue. It left me stranded and I had to be towed. Please make Nissan start a recall for this problem. When the steering lock fails it will not allow the car to start.
I was left stranded in a parking lot after my security steering lock mechanism locked the car and would not allow it to turn on or even to acc mode. Since the car locked up, I have two lights on my dash that will not turn off. I was stranded for hours and could not get an available tow truck to pick my car up. After several hours, I was able to get a family member to drive a long ways to come get me. My car is still in the parking lot and waiting to get a tow truck to pick it up! only issue with the tow, my car won't even allow the shifter to move into neutral! the tow company said they can't promise the car can even be towed if they can't safely steer it onto the flat bad truck!.
I have a Nissan 370 z and up to this point I really enjoyed the car that was until an known issue of the steering lock went out on my car and left me stranded for 16 hours. I called Nissan after I spent $1162. 00 to try to get reimbursed. I was initially told I would not reimbursed which after reading online how some people were refused reimbursement initially I kept pursuing a reimbursement. Stephanie from a regional office called and basically tried to low ball me by offering $500 reimbursement. Below is a forum link for the known issue of the steering lock. Other customers were offered a full reimbursement but for some reason I am not. This is after I bought the car brand new and have been a loyal customer ever since. I therefore would like a full reimbursement. I feel that this is only fair. What if I had been stranded on the way to visit an airforce buddy in alamogordo nm in the middle of the desert with spotty cell phone service. 16 hours stranded could have easily turned into something much worse. My case file is 24957255. . Read more...
Electric steering column lock was replaced in a recall at 25,824 miles in may 2013. Car in October 2016 with 37746 nukes had problems starting, had to push, "start" button from two to 12 times to get vehicle to start. First dealer replaced battery, needed to be done but problem did not go away. Dealer found that steering column electric lock was intermittently not working and had to be replaced at a cost of $1,103. 50. This is the same part that was replaced as part of the original recall. If stalled in traffic it could take up o 5 minutes to start vehicle.
The electric steering wheel lock mechanism has failed bad. There has been a recall on the part, but Nissan refuses to acknowledge it. Many complaints have been addressed on this issue.
Trying to start my 2009 370z approx 35k miles, I have to push the start button 2-7 times to get the car to start. Checked clutch switch position, it is okay. Occasionally it will start on the first time pushing the start button. Get in car, depress clutch when light comes on, push start button, on lights, no start , push again access light on, nothing, again off light, push again, and so on until starts. Dealer had no answers. Replaced battery in both keys, no difference. Has been an issue a couple times after stalling in traffic.
Steering lock control module - vehicle started in the morning and was fine driving to work, after I got off my vehicle was unable to start and did not recognize my key. Towed it to Nissan and was informed my steering lock control module failed. There is a recall for this issue but my vehicle does not fall under it. Nissan needs to have some type of extension for this issue. This is a safety concern. Mileage is at 33,548.
The contact owns a 2011 Nissan 370z. While driving 5 mph turning into a parking lot, the vehicle suddenly stalled without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the power steering failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 50,906.
I have a 2010 370z with only 20,000 miles. I have to say we all (family) were very happy with it till today. My wife always kept it inside our garage, all services up to date. Early in the morning she tried to start it but steering wheel lock came up, we tried everything, checked key fab battery and nothing. Finally we had to call roadside assistance and the vehicle was towed to the dealership. Once there we were told by our service advisor that it's a very common failure on 370z as a fact he showed us 3 others yes!! 3 more vehicles with same issue he also told us that there's a recall on the same problem on an altima and maxima but no the 370z why? he knew right away what the problem was and even told us right away "this is going to cost at least 1200 because that part is around 1000 really!! Nissan thank you!! what a joke for an almost 50,000 dollar car.
The contact owns a 2013 Nissan 370z. The contact experienced issues starting the vehicle while depressing the engine start button. A warning indicator illuminated on the key, which meant an intelligent key system or electrical steering lock system malfunction per the owner's manual. The failure occurred on more than one occasion. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.

Key light went on at 34000 miles and car will not do anything. No radio no window control dead in park position had to have towed to dealer. In parked condition.
Electronic steering column lock failed and disabled the vehicle. Vehicle wouldn't recognize intelligent key even when inserted. Vehicle was parked however it left car stranded without being able to start the engine. Had to have it towed to local Nissan dealership where they diagnosed it as this issue. There was a recall for my year, make and model but they told me my VIN didn't qualify for replacement. Had to pay $1,237 out of pocket for repair.
The electronic steering column lock module failed, preventing starting the car. Had it towed, dealer replaced at a cost of $1200, well known defect among Nissan xxxz owners.
Nissan has had a recall on maxima and altima vehicles, for steering lock mechanism failures. My 2010 370z had the same issue. Nissan will not replace because vehicle was manufactured at a different plant?! however the part is from the same manufacter. 1300. 00 to replace.
The fuel gauge does not display a full tank of gas after a fill up. This results in a very inaccurate depiction of fuel levels. This is a know issue but Nissan has refused to acknowledge on the 370z. The problem it intermittent, but it has only gotten worst. I brought my car to the dealership a while ago and they replaced the instrument cluster, believing it to be an issue with the display. The issue is still there after they installed a new instrument cluster, but now I'm past my extended warranty. The real cause of this is within the fuel system and the way it measures the fuel level. This renders the fuel gauge, distance to empty and average mpg reading inaccurate and useless. There are others who have this issue and I would like for Nissan to address it as a recall.
On Dec 2 2014 I noticed that the intelligent ket light was on. Once I got home after work I looked it up on the manuel and it said it could be a malfunction and to contact a Nissan dealer. Well on the mooring of 3 Dec I go to work and no light. At around 2030 I got released for the day. Go to start my car and nothing. Had to get a ride to a store and wait for wife to pick me up.
Steering lock failed. The part failed without any prior indication. I was stranded because my vehicle would no longer start. Had to get my car towed to a dealer and was charged $1100 to replace the part. Vehicle was purchased only 3 months prior and had 29000 miles on it.
On Monday 9/15/14 I attempted to start my car like I had done earlier in the day without any problems. When I went to push my start button, I noticed that nothing had happened at all except the illumination of a key lock light. After checking the gas, battery, and fuses, I did not know what to do about this issue. Today is 9/17/14 and when I attempt to start my car I have to depress the start button 7-10 times before it actually starts the car. I called a nearby Nissan dealership they said it probably had a steering lock failure, which is a common occurence in the 2009-2010 370z.
Tried to start car in the morring and it did start moved up 5 feet to wash car washed car then tried to start again nothing would not start at all found out it was the stearing lock aaembly this is a know part to fail and theirs no way it should on a car so new it happens to a lot of Nissans 2009 2010 370z its a known part to fail and when it does theirs nothing you can do to start the car it cost 1600 dollars to fix and Nissan kknows theirs a problem but no recall the gtr had the same problem but they fixed that because its a very costly car but the 370 z nothing yet the dealer just laugh and I also called Nissan and they did the same thing when thet no this happens alot with this part I think its very bad for Nissan to treat their people like that I will never deal with Nissan again and I showed Nissan over a thousand emails and problems with this part and they just dont care I can understand if it was not a problem that much but this stearing box on the 370 z is a big problem 40 thousand dollar car and Nissan has or dont care ib would just give it back too them but once they have your money Nissan can care less it seems like its sad.
This is to rectify the complaint I submitted yesterday related to the steering lock unit failing. I did have the problem (no change there) and filed complaint #10614959 after doing the initial research and reading everywhere (including here) that Nissan's recall did not cover my model year (2009), being that mine is not a gtr. After I had come to terms with having to pay for this out of pocket, I called the dealer in fort lauderdale, and he (voluntarily) said that recalls are VIN specific and that mine was covered (what a relief). I also talked with Nissan USA later and they told me that it is not a recall but that they have extended the warranty on that particular piece of equipment. I am not sure, but I think the difference is that if the program is an extended warranty, you have to wait until you have the issue whereas a recall you can take it in before (or after). Whichever it is, those who had this problem early on and had to pay out of pocked may want to re-check with Nissan to see if they can get reimbursed. Maybe Nissan extended the initial recall or offered the extended warranty long after some people had the problem and got missed in the process. If they ever sent me a note about this in the mail, I probably mistook it for junk mail and threw it out. In my case at least, Nissan did right by me after I had the problem. When I called (Nissan USA) and asked about the towing, the rep said the program did not specifically say either way, but they agreed to reimburse me for it. Anyway, good luck with all of this.
Same problem as everyone else is reporting about vehicle not starting because the Smart key push button ignition is stuck in the lock position. I think they call it steering wheel system fail. Apparently Nissan has known about this for a long time, has recalled newer models but is not willing to recall the 2009s. So the question is, how many people need to have this problem before a mandatory recall is imposed? this is ridiculous. Despite the problem being known, there is no warning on it, so people, including myself, get stranded in horrible situations. Note to Nissan. I have been a repeat customer. I have had 1 maxima, 2 altimas and now a z. I will fix this car, sell it and until/unless Nissan does the right thing and issues a recall on this, I will never look at another Nissan again.
Constant problems with the clutch, car records shows clutch and csc has been replaced but is having problems yet again. Always feel ticking in the clutch pedal when disengaged, and clutch sticks when taking off from stop (not talking about launches or dropping gears). Also a lot of problems with electrical, like fuel gauge. Last but not least, lots of wind noise when on the freeway, and window gets stuck when closed on freeway. Have gone to dealership and of course they say theres nothing they can do even though forums show theres recalls.
My 370z will start up fine sometimes but most times I have to it the start button 7-10 times before it cranks. When I push the button all lights on dash come and it makes clicking sounds but just won't start the vehicle. I had my steering lock mechanism replaced 6 months ago because there was a recall but the problem still persist. I have taken it to the dealership but no one can give me a solid answer.
Attempted to start my 370z this morning, key light would come on, and the lock light came on the push button start. But no response. After some research, it appears that the steering wheel lock mechanism is stuck halfway so the steering wheel turns but nothing is indicating to the ecu that it is unlocked. Nissan had issued a recall for the same part on 2009 gt-r's (ntb10-025 p0309) but not on 370z's. It became such an issue that in 2011/2012 Nissan stopped installing the device on the 370z model. More and more 370z owners are becoming stranded because of this defect and it should be recalled and replaced.
Dealer says it's the steering wheel lock issue. Warranty expired and now they're asking 1,200 to fix the issue for parts and labor. This is ridiculous. Apparently it's a common issue for all 2009 and 2010 z's and they're only recalling some 2010 models. I need this recalled because of the obvious defective part that was installed in the car. Unless I can get this fixed at no cost I will not purchase another Nissan. Ever. They already have awful brakes and rotors and now this? shame.
Engine power cuts out randomly. Error code p0011 given. All mechanical components associated with code p0011 per Nissan have been replaced. Problem still persists. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem with the early 2009 370z. To date, Nissan has not issued a recall for this problem.
