For years, there have been widespread defects in the electronic steering column lock (escl) that disabled the push-button ignition in a wide range of Nissan and Infiniti vehicles. The escl's primary job is to keep the steering wheel locked until you bring your key fob in range of the vehicle. It's meant to prevent theft. However, when the escl malfunctions (even with the fob present and working) the escl won't detect it and, therefore, won't release the wheel. When you press the start/stop button to start the car, nothing happens. However, the "intelligent key warning light" symbol comes on, indicating you have a problem. Nissan has been aware of this issue fo years and has issued a voluntary service campaign for various models. However, they have not done so for the 370z, even though this model is experiencing the exact problem as the models included in the voluntary service campaign. This malfunction has nothing to do with general "wear & tear". This malfunction is due to a defective part and poor engineering. I am asking NHTSA to encourage Nissan to conduct a voluntary or mandatory recall to address and correct this issue at no cost to vehicle owners.

I was driving home from work and my clutch peddle slowly kept getting going down and not coming up. Then I was a couple of blocks away from my house and it was completely stuck and I could not drive my car.

Steering wheel lock sensor broke, failed in lock position, happens to most every Nissan fob key system at 1 time or another. The dealer charged me $1100. 00 to fix and it took them less than 2 hours. This is a scam by Nissan and the internet is full of people compalining about this issue. It left me stranded and I had to be towed. Please make Nissan start a recall for this problem. When the steering lock fails it will not allow the car to start.
I have a Nissan 370 z and up to this point I really enjoyed the car that was until an known issue of the steering lock went out on my car and left me stranded for 16 hours. I called Nissan after I spent $1162. 00 to try to get reimbursed. I was initially told I would not reimbursed which after reading online how some people were refused reimbursement initially I kept pursuing a reimbursement. Stephanie from a regional office called and basically tried to low ball me by offering $500 reimbursement. Below is a forum link for the known issue of the steering lock. Other customers were offered a full reimbursement but for some reason I am not. This is after I bought the car brand new and have been a loyal customer ever since. I therefore would like a full reimbursement. I feel that this is only fair. What if I had been stranded on the way to visit an airforce buddy in alamogordo nm in the middle of the desert with spotty cell phone service. 16 hours stranded could have easily turned into something much worse. My case file is 24957255. . Read more...

Last Saturday, took the cover off and was going to the car wash to shine her up real good. On the way after stopping at a light I pulled off then went to 2nd gear, then to third and that when it happened. The clutch went to the floor and did not come back up. I¿m going down the street not knowing what to do next because there is a stop sign but I¿m afraid to stop because I don¿t know what will happen, a very dangerous situation. Fortunately there were no other cars at the stop sign so I turned on my emergency flashers and continued through, I¿m sure the people behind me thought I was crazy and I¿m very happy there were no police around. I made a left on the emptiest street I could find and pulled over and called my son to pick me up and help me push the car out of the street. Now mind you I never raced or drove the car hard at all and within the 10 or so months I¿ve owed it only put 5000 miles on it. It¿s hard for me to believe that Nissan would put such a dangerous car, let alone a sports car on the road, I just kept thinking what if I was on the highway, and I could have been killed! I had to have the car towed to Nissan of mckinney were they add insult to injury telling me my z with only 18000 miles on it was out of warranty and it would cost me over $1000 to repair. . The contact owns a 2013 Nissan 370z. The contact experienced issues starting the vehicle while depressing the engine start button. A warning indicator illuminated on the key, which meant an intelligent key system or electrical steering lock system malfunction per the owner's manual. The failure occurred on more than one occasion. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage and VIN were unknown.
Vehicle has keyless system, the only key slot available is in the drivers side door. When I enter the vehicle, normally a light comes on to acknowledge the system recognizes you. On entering this time, a small symbol with the word key on it illuminated and the car would not start or go into the accessory position, nor would the steering column unlock. Also, the brake pedal was very hard. The owner's manual states the key symbol indicates a malfunction in the intellikey system. The vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealership where it was determined the electric steering lock had failed. The cost of repair was near $1200. 00 and I was informed that, even though the car was still within warranty for 40,000 miles or for over a year, Nissan was refusing to make these repairs under warranty coverage. It seems this is an almost inevitable failure on any Nissan or Infiniti equipped with this system. I was lucky that it failed in a super market parking lot near home.
Hi it is a 370z clutch pressure (csc) failures. People are complaining all over the place talking about how this is leaving people stranded especially on new vehicles. There's a post here about a brand new 2016 370z had a csc failure and had to be towed into the nearest dealership to get it fixed. Https://www. Reddit. I was driving to work one morning when my clutch pedal became limp. I was on the freeway getting ready to shift into 6th gear when I had no clutch resistance! I nearly crashed due to the lack of engagement. I took it to the dealership and they said I was out of warranty. This very same issue was fixed under warranty at 30,000 miles. The dealership either never replaced the parts they claimed to have replaced at 30k miles or they have failed again, just 35k miles later. These parts are the master cylinder and slave cylinder in the transmission. The issue has been going on with 2009-2015 models. Actually, it has been going on as far back as 2003 with the 350z, which was never addressed. I'm selling the car and hopefully the buyer doesn't crash and die from it. If he/she does, you should be held responsible for not addressing the issue. Many of the members on the370z. . Read more...

First incident happened at around 37,000 miles, the car would not start and the push button lights up the lock light but seconds later started working. On June 3rd 2015, after driving to my job to pick up tools to head to the airport I park the car, came back to a car that would not start, the car recognizes the key but locks me out from starting the car. The car had random won't start, I brought this up to the Nissan dealers about ongoing issues with other owners of the same car. Now my car does not start and I am hearing that this is a going issue with the steering wheel lock/intelligent key. I am unable to move the car and will have to tow it to the dealer that denied issues with the inelligent key system locking owners from starting their cars. I want to bring this up so that way we speak out since there are so many people having issues but not enough post it so that a recall can be made for Nissan to fix this for owners affected.
Yesterday afternoon, after leaving work to my car within the parking lot, my vehicle did not start. I assumed it was due to a low battery within the intelligent key for the push to start ignition, so I replaced the battery at a local wal-mart. Upon returning to the car, I had the same problem. The key was able to lock and unlock the doors to the car, however when I pushed in the clutch and brake per usual followed by the start button, nothing took place. The indicator remained on the 'lock' position and failed to move over to the 'on' position to start the car. No sounds took place at all as if it was even trying to start. As a result, I left the car overnight and had it towed to the local dealership. They informed me a few hours later that my steering lock unit had 'failed'. I mentioned that I had seen this problem reported on numerous car blogs (NHTSA #10051829), however they mentioned since I was beyond my extended warranty, that I would have to pay roughly $1,250. 00 for the part and labor. It is currently being serviced, however I wanted this incident logged as I have seen a number of 370z owners recommend this route. Extremely disappointed with Nissan's coverage and handling of this situation.
Key indicator light came on about a week prior to the incident. Made 2 phone calls to local Nissan dealerships (one in portland or and one in vancouver, wa) both dealerships claimed they had no idea what was going on but I should bring it in for a diagnostic test which ran around $118 just to look at. Since nothing appeared wrong with my car I waited because the "key" light would go off. It came back on the day I had the incident and left me stranded on my lunch hour with no power to start my car. I again called Nissan and they were not sure what the problem was. I had to have my car towed to the nearest Nissan dealership which ran a diagnostic test. I then received a phone call that afternoon to say it was my steering lock assembly and the part was expensive to replace. I was told the labor would not be much since it was an easy fix. So this problem turned out to the a $1,200 fix. I decided to go online to see if I can find this part any cheaper. I then ran across many websites and blogs with Nissan owners having the exact same problem with car from 2009 to 2011. Apparently this is not something Nissan was unaware of. The service rep at the dealership said she has seen other 370z's with this same problem and just had one towed to the service center 2 weeks ago. I find it hard to believe that with this may cases being reported and blogged about online why Nissan is not doing something about this. This can be a very dangerous situation if left stranded in a car that will not start. When you try to be proactive Nissan service centers claim they are unaware of the issue. Something needs to be done and quickly. This will be the last Nissan ever purchased if not resolved and reimbursed for expense.
Engine power cuts out randomly. Error code p0011 given. All mechanical components associated with code p0011 per Nissan have been replaced. Problem still persists. Apparently, this is not an uncommon problem with the early 2009 370z. To date, Nissan has not issued a recall for this problem.
Car would not start. Left me stranded. Had to call a flatbed truck to take it to the garage. They told me it was the steering lock unit that caused the problem.
Car would not turn on. Towed to local Nissan dealer & they said the steering lock assembly failed. Vehicle locked up. Costing me $1400 to repair.
My car will not start due to the well-known yellow key light problem. I had it towed to the shop and I am afraid that the repair bill will be very expensive. Please make a recall for this obvious defect. It is very cold right now and could have been a real danger due to the cold weather.
I drove my car to work and everything was running fine, as I stopped at a store to grab something and came back out my car no longer worked. The system would no longer recognize the intelligent key, and the push start button was in the "lock" mode. After researching this I found out that this is a common issue in the 2009-2010 z models. The same issue found in Nissan gt-r models, the steering wheel lock malfunctions and is therefore enable to recognize the intelligent key due to the steering column being locked. Nissan should definitely take responsibility for the faulty equipment as this leaves cars and owners stranded. For a relatively new car this should not be happening esp. Under 36,000 miles. The majority of the complaints have not even surpassed the powertrain warranty. The government should show concern for consumers as well as Nissan!.
Car was parked at a local coffee shop. Suddenly the steering lock, part of the starting system went haywire and disabled the car completely. Now the car can't be turned on even though the key is in the car and the battery is full. I believe NHTSA needs to be made aware of this issue as it is a safety concern since every 370z is at risk of this problem, leaving all potential owners stranded. I believe Nissan is aware of this problem as the Nissan gt-r had a campaign to replace the very same part. It is called a steering lock.
Car won't start, intelligent "key" light is on in the dash. Ignition button has the "lock" lit up. Headlights, dome lights, and doors unlock without problem. Car just won't start. Tried spare fob key, and placed into fob part, still won't start. Read on forums, common problem amongst early 370z, ipdm or steering lock assembly faulty. Being replaced under recall for gtr but not the 370z. Module has been replace on newer 370zs.
Known issue on some 370zs,Nissan gtrs and altimas. When steering lock fails car will not not start, without lock release push button start is rendered useless. Nissan is aware of the issue but chose not to correct it.
I was routinely driving to work on a Friday. I stopped to get gas. The car wouldn't start once I was done and a yellow/amber intelligent key light was on. I get a tow to the nearby Nissan dealership and they told me it's a steering wheel lock. They said it's happening on quite a few cars and that an altima and another 370z have been having the same issue and are waiting for the same part. I'm still waiting on the part and it happened over a month ago. This faulty part from the factory has been going out routinely for everyone who owns a 09-10 370z, altimas and other Nissan vehicles that use the same steering wheel lock technology. It's absolutely enraging that Nissan is releasing these parts (knowing they're bad as they've made revisions on the newer 370z) and forcing customers to pay for this out of pocket and wait a month to get the part. . Rear diff seized twice, at 12k and 15k. Dealer identified issue as overheating due to improper backlash setting from factory.
Car revs up to 2500-3000 rpms between shifts! cannot get the idle to drop lower; any attempt to punch the gas pedal and lower the idle just makes it idle faster!! problem has existed 3. 5 years now, and every time I request the dealer investigate they have lame excuse of "if it isn't doing it when you bring it in, we can't troubleshoot it"! wtf? the most recent time (March 2013) the car had a "service engine" light at the same time and idle wouldn't drop below 2000 rpms for 3 days. I took it in for service and dealer found "nothing wrong" and "no codes saved in ecm memory". Again, wtf? isn't this the same Toyota runaway throttle issue - same year, same japanese car, same fuel throttle component purchased from the same inferior supplier? dealer is not documenting my requests!! are you waiting for me to have an accident and die before you fix it?.
Engine used approximately 3/4 quart of oil in first 700 miles. Continues to consume in excess of 1 quart of oil per 1,000 miles. Nissan has done numerous (4) consumption tests. Vehicle failed all tests. Vehicle now has 8,700 miles after 5 years and I am in a protracted battle with Nissan. They have been aware of this problem since 2008 and issued tsbs in 2010 but continued to try and hide behind the problem. There are numerous posting on the web for like problems with the 370 engine, including the Nissan 370z and the Infiniti g37.
