First, I started to notice my car would loose power while driving, over a couple months, it started to stall and/or completely shut off while driving at low speeds or at red lights! when this first stared happening, the car would immediately fire back up when cranked, after about a month of this, I noticed, I could not drive at or above 45mph or it would shut down, or drive for more than 15 minutes and it would shut off…and not start again! it would crank, but not start, I would have to wait 30 minutes or more and then it would start right up! this is dangerous due to the immediate- no- warning shut off, whenever and wherever! I’ve almost caused multi car pile up! not to mention my kids in the back seat and on the interstate! we could have been slammed into, and pushed down the interstate and over into other lanes! there’s a recall on 2002 Nissan Altimas for this very issue!!! somehow, my vehicles VIN # does not qualify! infact…. . My VIN# never ever qualifies for any recall, but yet, my vehicle has the exact same problems!!.

I have recently discovered that there was a recall on my Nissan Altima 2002 model. I have tried to contact the dealer locally but no results. I also contacted the manufacturer and they gave me run around saying that they needed the software which they will make it available and soon as it's available they will contact me. I have contacted them several times but I get the same run around. It's been over a year and half since I had contacted them. But it hasn't been fixed.
My brakes are going out fast. My heater takes forever to heat up. My fuses keep burning out,car lighter don't work. It runs rough. I think it has a short on some wires.
Car would not start. Towed to mechanic and found out it was crank shaft positioning sensor. After repair was made I found the recall on this website. According to Nissan service dept. Looking in Nissan database this repair was made at 28k miles before I bought the car. I had to have the same thing repaired and Nissan will not reimburse me for the repairs. According to the safety information posted about this recall the sensor can overheat and cause loss of power to the engine and cut off the engine completely. This happened to me a couple of years ago and luckily I was in a parking lot driving at a slow speed, but prior to that I was out on a country road and it was getting dark. If it had happened then I may have been hit by another car. Since this part is still defective or not redesigned it is putting other Nissan owner's at risk of this happening again. There should be a second recall to replace this part again. This is not a simple "sensor" that causes your car to not start, this is life threatening! I am afraid to drive any distance for fear of this happening further from home and either causing me to get into an accident or having a huge towing bill. Nissan was very uncooperative in number one, not willing to reimburse me because I took it to my mechanic and not a dealer, I'm psychic like that, and two, not issuing another recall when the Nissan service rep told me that these have been repaired more than once after the recall. I hope the NHTSA department can see the urgency of this complaint to issue a second recall. Thank you.
First there was a random misfire when I first started it that morning. Eventually got it to start, allowed itto run for a few mintues, and then attempted to pull out of the driveway. Once I put it in drive in and moved a few miles the engine completely shut off. Got it back home, changed the camshaft sensor and while attempting to see if the problem was resolved the cataylic converter began to overheat and caused a small fire near the sensor.
The first issue I have are the oxygen senor are bad no speed when getting pass 35 feel like your driving in 25. The major issue and it is very unsafe. I was driving doen the street with my under age children in the car and when the gears was in drive it stop and went backwards then I put it all the way in park and it stop and took off and speed went to 60 then back down to it normal speed. Just the other day on 2/16/15 it was placed in drive it automatic went into reverse instead of drive but the gear was in drive.
This car almost killed me. While I was driving in the traffic, the engine suddenly died, there are no power, no steering, no brake, and will not start again this time. The engine has been eating oil and coolant like crazy.
The contact owns a 2002 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while idling at a stop light, she heard a knocking in the engine. The vehicle was taken to the dealer for inspection where they stated that the catalytic converter, spark plugs, boots, and coils needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Driving vehicle at a low speed and vehicle stops running without warning.
I bought my car brand new in 2002 and there was a series of recalls for different items. I noticed that the engine was not keeping a clean idle after about 69,000 miles in 2010 so I had to have it computer tested due to maintain lights etc. I got p0420 code for catalytic converter not working properly. I took the car to the star Nissan dealer where I bought it, and the service writer told me there was no issues with the cat or pre cat which was a lie! since that time I have been losing about 2 1/2 quarts of oil every couple of weeks and then the engine quit on me and now I am told it is a extremely common problem with no answer and that I need a new engine!!! Nissan just told me OH well!~ is there anything I can do about this I have seen thousands of exactly the same problem from other consumers? thank you for your reply.

On 6/27/2013 I was driving about 30 mph per hour. The car enginine shuts off abrubtly and I loss all power to the car. I was stuck and the cars behind me almost hit me from behind. I put the hazards on and tried to start the car. I sat for about 5 minutes, put the car in neutral and it started then shut off again. In previous years I had to start the car in neutral but it never shut off while in motion until today,6/27/2013 and the sevice soon engine light came on and also the tcs, slip. I am now seeing that there is a recall. Can you please help me to get Nissan to fix this problem because this is a hazard and there is a recall. Thank you. I will also call Nissan again and report this problem, and I hope that they fix this problem because I could have been injured also others and there is a product recall on the crankshaft, timing control sensors, etc. . . Why was a product recall notice not mailed to me about this serious defect/ problem?.
My car is using 2 to 3 quarts of oil about every 200 to 300 miles. I've been putting the best oil in it along with getting the oil changed regularly.

Catalytic converter went out and destroyed engine. Now car uses 1 qt oil every 100 miles. Nissan claims engine is old and there is nothing that they can do. Too many cars have this type of problem for it to just be old engines and now the out of warranty people are paying for it.

Floor pans on both driver and passenger sides are rusted through engine dies randomly.
2002 Nissan Altima. Unit #1 was westbound on ir80 in the right lane when the engine compartment caught fire. Unit #1 pulled to the right berm and extinguished the flames. According to the police report, the burnt wires were traced to the fuel injection. (ohio traffic crash report #10-0425-90).
We had stopped at the signal and once the signal turned green we tried to move, but the car did not move at all, seemed like the engine was completely dead. We thought of getting out of the car and thus we put on the warning flasher switch and tried to put into park by depressing the brake pedal and shifted the selector lever from d (drive) to p (park). During this process the car went out of control and crashed on to the busy traffic (the traffic was on by then on the other side). This major accident involved a total of 5 cars and 3 cars were towed and totaled including ours and injuring one of the passengers. Our 1 year son was also involved in this accident, but luckily he was not injured, thanks to the stable car seat. My father escaped with minor injuries. Above all, the car was fully serviced from Nissan dealer (costing around $900) day before the crash occurred.
Nissan Altima 2002 keeps having problem with the crankshaft and camshaft sensors and once you replace them a couple months later you'll have the same problem. This problem causes your car to stop randomly in the middle of traffic which could cause you to get into a car accident or worse death. Nissan knows that this is a common issue but they choose to ignore the problem. I have spoken with many dealers and auto repair technicians and they all agree this is a common problem with Nissan Altima. This is sad and I really wish this issue is resolved for the saftey of everyone driving. I was driving in my car with my niece when my car just stopped in the middle of traffic scared me to death!!! because we could have been really hurt and the simple fact that I replaced this part 3 months before this occured is really terrible. I have replaced both sensor and I'm still having an isssue. This is something that Nissan needs to correct before someone really gets hurts. The 2002 Nissan Altima is a horrible car its just manufactured all wrong and is constantly giving me issues.
Nissan 2002 Altima 69,00 miles, always serviced now consuming oil at the rate of 4 qts a week, no indicator notice on dash panel until car all of a sudden slows down to 20 mph. This has happened while on the highway several times. Went on the web and found over 169 + complaints. Nissan has no comment. Next time someone is injured driving an Altima may want to check the oil.
2002 Nissan Altima has know had to have motor mounts replaced for a second time since purchase of vehicle. Motor mounts seem to be defective.
