1 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2021

This happened on Saturday April 03, 2021. I had an accident with Nissan Altima 2005. I was driving about 55 miles per hour on a highway here in madison wisconsin, where all the sudden a road construction truck coming from the work area (center of the highway) tried to snick and crossed without looking at the upcoming traffic. Then, I tried to brake, but no way to prevent the crash from happening, so I hit that truck from his passenger side. After the "t", my airbags did not deploy, so I have been severely injured that the ambulance took me to uw hospital for emergency care. Therefore, I got exposed to the danger because my airbags did not deploy and protect me. So, the airbags were working in my car.

2 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2016

Car was involved in one front end and two rear end accicdents over the years all requiring extensive body and bumper repair. In all cases the air bags did not deploy. The vehicle was moving at the speed limit with the front end accident and at a slow speed approaching a traffic signal and other vehicles with the rear end incidents. Direction was straight in all cases on local streets not highways. Last incident is noted in "when did thid happen" data. Seems unlikely that the bags would not have deployed ever. In light of the takata recall and other airbag system on/off problems with nearly every manufacturer I am concered with the safety of this vehicle. Mention of this over the years was met with dismisal by repair shops and manufacture's dealer service department. How safe is this vehicle?.

4 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2014

My 17 year old daughter was involved in an accident with my 2005 Nissan Altima on may 21, 2014. She was hit by another vehicle in which she received back, leg and knee injuries. My vehicle was hit hard on the front passenger side in which the airbag did not deploy when clearly it should have by the impact of the accident and the speed of the other driver. To add, my daughter was wearing her seat belt and thank god there were no fatalities. When I purchased the vehicle I had no idea that there had been recalls on the vehicle for airbag issues. I would not have purchased it if so. In doing research I am finding out about the airbag issues affecting past and current Nissan models. The car was deemed a total loss by my insurance company. The airbag system should deploy when the restraint controller detects a moderate to severe frontal collision. In my research, I have found that some airbags fail to deploy because auto manufacturers attempts to cut costs associated with their airbag systems, which in turn reduces the quality or the quantity of the airbag sensors. I would like the NHTSA to investigate this issue. I am out a car and strongly considering retaining an attorney to handle the case.

5 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

The seat belts failed to retract and the air bags failed to deploy. The contact sustained sharp bodily pains to the shoulders, ribs, neck and head. A police report was filed. The vehicle was destroyed. The manufacturer was not alerted of the failure. The failure mileage and VIN was unavailable.

6 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2012

My wife was driving at 45mph when a expedition made an illegal left turn in front of her causing an accident. The front of her Nissan Altima was crushed in with moderate damage according to the police report. Her airbags did not deploy nor did the seatbelts lock. My wife sustained whip lash, and bruising on her chest from hitting the steering wheel. She also had both knees hit the front dash board and sustained injuries. My daughter sitting in the front passenger had sprained rists from putting her hands out onto the dash trying to stop from hitting the dash/windshield. My son sitting in the left rear passenger seat had sprianed rists and a sprained shoulder from hitting the front driver seat. Spoke to Nissan and had the vehicle inspected by their engineers, with information downloaded from the computer and photographs taken. Nissan had responded, that the vehcile operated under their standards and no further issues. I can't belive that a vehicle doing 45 mph with moderate front end damage hit an expedtion and the airbags/seatbelts failed to work. However Nissan feels that the vehicle performed up to their standards. This matter needs to be further investigated. . . . . . . . . . . .

9 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 04/01/2009

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Altima. While driving between 25-35 mph on normal road conditions, the vehicle came to a complete stop and was rear-ended unexpectedly. The force caused the vehicle to rear-end the preceding vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy due to the massive impact and the driver's seat belt retractor failed to operate. There were no warnings prior to the failure. The driver sustained moderate injuries to the head, neck, and shoulder. There were no injuries to the opposing drivers. The police, fire department, and ambulance were called to the scene and a police report was filed. The vehicle sustained rear body damage and was towed to a collision center. The insurance company was notified of the failure. The VIN was unknown. The failure and current mileages were 98,000.

10 Air Bag Not Deploy problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2009

My son was involved in an accident whereby two cars sideswiped each other. The impact was severe, ripping the side view mirror off, exploding the front left tire and damaging the side of my vehicle. The other car's side airbags deployed. Mine did not. From the impact my son hit his head on the side window, lost consciousness and lost control of the vehicle, which then hit a tree. The front airbags did not deploy at impact with the tree. The car was declared totaled by the insurance company. After numerous calls to Nissan and a 6-week run around by Nissans air bag division I was told that there wasn't enough deceleration for the airbags to go off. I have pictures of the damage to the car and I was at the scene. The accident was bad. I was never given any details just a self serving conclusion from Nissan after a prolonged period of time. I was also given conflicting information as to when and where the car would be viewed. Excuses were made as to why the other vehicle's airbags went off even though Nissan never examined the other vehicle.
