Failure Date: 08/09/2012

Turning into a store parking lot and the rear sway bar just broke.

37 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 08/09/2012

I noticed a piece hangidng down from underneath the rear driver side of my 2007 Altima. I took it to the dealership and was advised I needed new sway bars and links. In addition, I would need to replace my master cylinder and rotors all for a whopping $1013. 00. They also stated that the master cylinder was covered under a recall, but that the defect had nothing to do with my rotors which I find hard to believe. I purchased this car a little over a year ago from a dealer, I have always made sure my routine maintenance was taken care of, and most of the miles on my vehicle are highway miles ( 69,500 total miles),. I have two small children and very careful when I drive. I am mortified at this bill and that a recall has not been put into place for the sway bar, as I see several complaints regarding this issue with 2007 Altimas in particular.

38 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 08/07/2012

Similar to many others, I noticed a piece hanging down from the underside of my 2007 Nissan Altima. It turned out to be the sway bar. It had just broken in half. This apparently has been a common problem for many owners of this particular model. It would appear to be a defect, and could be a serious safety problem.

39 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

Vehicle was parked and I happened to notice a metal piece hanging down. Sway bar had snapped and was dangling. Highway driving and rarely a bump. Must be manufacturer defect and judging from multiple reports with similar stories, must be dealt with. Dealer reports no contact damage or compromise in break area. Manufacture defect.

40 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2012

Noticed the rear sway bar was broken on the passenger side of the car. No indication of excessive corrosion or damage from hitting anything. Car is garage kept. Car is driven by a senior with usually 1 passenger or less around town. No evidence that this should have broken. Nissan is reviewing the case now.

41 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 05/19/2012

I was driving down the road when I heard a bang, and then the car started make a noise like the exhaust let go, and vibrated when I pushed the gas pedal to gain some speed, so when I got it checked out it came out to be the sway bar broke on the driver side, I take care of my car and something like that shouldn't just break, even if you do hit a bump, I have been researching on the internet and came to find out that this is known problem but Nissan won't take responsibility. I always have my 3 year old little boy in the car, I was told not to drive very far with it broken but I am trying to get some answers first, why did this happen, a part like this shouldn't just break. I am from nova scotia canada b1a-2s2 but the list below says you have to be from the united states.

43 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 05/11/2012

I was driving and made a right turn when my family and I heard a pop. I did not hit a pothole or anything unusual. Did not realized what had happened until a few days later when I went to my mechanic to replace the struts and he informed me that the sway bar was broken. For no reason it broke and I think that it shouldn't have happened. I think Nissan should make this part a recall. I love obviously Nissan because in my immediate family we own three of them. I love to continue to be a Nissan owner, but if they cannot continue to make reliable cars, we would have to take our business elsewhere. I hope Nissan would take a close look at this problem, rectify it and continue to build dependable cars that we have grown to love.

I dropped it off to get an oil change, and the next thing I receive a phone call telling me my rear sway bar is broke. They said it has rusted away, and that this is a more then common reason in the 2007 Nissan Altima. I verified this on the internet with many articles.

47 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 02/02/2012

I was taking the car to get an oil change and the mechanic noticed that the sway bar had rusted through and broke. He said it was a defective part and rusted through due to the fact that it was hollow - he explained it is dangerous to drive over 30 mph with a defective sway bar. It is my opinion there should be a recall due to the safety concerns.

48 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

I didn't notice the sway bar was broke until my husband was following me home one night from work and saw the right side hanging down.

49 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 01/31/2012

I was just notified that my 2007 Nissan Altima has a broken sway bar. The vehicle only has 53,000 miles. I have seen multiple reports online of this happening to 2007 Altimas, yet the dealership where it was purchased claims they've never seen one break before. There have been no accidents/towing/driving conditions that should have caused this to break. I drive 8 miles per day through a residential neighborhood. This is a huge safety concern and I'm disappointed in the quality of mine (and others') Altimas.

50 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 01/05/2012

Upon inspection of an unknown metal tube hanging visibily next to the driver's side rear wheel, I was able to determine that the sway bar had deteriorated and broke. It is a very poorly designed hollow tube steel. My vehicle has approx 43,000 miles on it. I did research and found this to be a common yet unadressed issue with Nissan.

53 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2011

Rear sway bar snapped. This car is driven in normal weather conditions at normal driving speeds,on smooth roads(to school and church). Have not driven over anything or had any collisions. The bar just snapped all of a sudden( we saw it hanging out from under the car).

54 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 10/07/2011

Rear sway bar broke during normal driving / operation. The sway bar on the driver's side broke through at the driver's side bushing. The broken section was eventually observed dangling beneath vehicle causing obvious safety concerns. The exact milage of component failure is unknown as bar likely was supported by bushing for sometime before becoming visable. This situation really warrents a recall in my opinion.

55 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 08/26/2011

I have a 2007 Nissan Altima with approx 42000 miles. I noticed something hanging down behind the rear left tire. When I took it to the shop I was told that the rear sway bar was snapped in half. This car has only has one owner and has been taken care of. This should not have happened and Nissan needs to make this a recall, as it is a safety issue, and has been reported by so many people!!.

Rear sway bar broke just outboard of the passenger side sway bar bushing. The broken section was hanging down and dragging on the road.

57 Sway Bar problem

Rear sway bar on my Altima rusted in half.

58 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 07/23/2011

Discovered today that the rear sway bar had snapped just inside of the right side center mount. There is rust inside the hollow sway bar. I have not hit any pot holes or curbs or bumps that would cause this damage, nor is there any other damage to the suspension. The sway bar appears to have snapped from being weakened by rust.

59 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

I am the owner and sole operator of a 2007 Nissan Altima 3. 5se with 37,000 miles. The rear sway bar snapped while making a right turn into a parking lot under normal driving conditions. The car is very well cared for and has never been driven harshly. Further, this is a part that should, realistically, _never_ fail under normal driving conditions; and upon doing some research on the internet, I have found that this is a common problem for this model and year of manufacture. I have tried to remedy the situation with Nissan dealers and with Nissan's "customer care" line without satisfaction. This part is clearly defective in its manufacture and should be replaced at Nissan's cost. More importantly, this is a safety concern, as failure of this part can compromise handling during emergency maneuvers.

60 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2011

I am the owner of a Nissan Altima 2007 3. 5 sl v6 with 29,000 miles. The rear sway bar snapped under normal driving conditions. I am getting estimates for repair. Ive researched the internet and found there are a lot of complaints. Why wasn't there a recall?.

63 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2011

I own a 2007 Nissan Altima. Single car owner - no abuse or damage. Heard something dragging under car yesterday 6-20-11. Stopped to look under car - something dragging by rear passenger tire. Took car to firestone - was told rear sway bar broken. Guy at firestone said he has repaired 3 of these on Nissan Altima's in past 6 months. Funny thing, I called large Nissan dealer and asked if a recall was in place. Large Nissan dealer has no idea that so many rear sway bars on 2007 Nissan Altima's broken. Even said that they have not seen such at their dealership. . . Hmmmmm!.

65 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 06/08/2011

2007 Nissan Altima with broken rear sway bar. This is a safety hazard and I have had no success throught the dealer or Nissan corporate to resolve.

66 Sway Bar problem

Failure Date: 06/02/2011

I own a 2007 Nissan Altima. I noticed a piece of metal hanging from under the car close to the rear driver side tire. I took it to the dealer last Tuesday afternoon and they said the sway bar was broke. The car has not been under any abuse. I am the only one who has ever driven this car. Because of the broken sway bar it cause the ball linkage joints to wear and the shocks to leak. It cost me $ 794. 13 to have this replaced and repaired. I am very unhappy with Nissan because this is a well known product defect and a safety device that has failed and should be recalled. I feel that the car may have reacted poorly in an emergency situation. I would appreciate any and all the assistance in getting a recall, bulletin or special policy to reimburse this cost to me. June 5th, 2011.

Nissan needs to recall this part before someone gets killed. . . . . How many complaints does it take? hmmmm.
