1 Structure problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2022

2008 Nissan Altima: noticed this year a shiny gleam on the dashboard. This windshield gets hazy. The dashboard is melting, it is sticking and shiny. When a fingernail is pressed, it will actually sink into the dashboard and leave a mark. The dashboard cannot take any cleaning or friction. When the dashboard is touched it leaves fingers sticky. Became more of an issue this year now that I have a grandchild. My other vehicle is a Mini cooper 2 door which is not feasible to hold a car seat and baby. I now have the carseat in the Nissan and now it has become more of a problem because I cannot use the other car as alternative transportation when I have my grandchild. It is very difficult to drive with the glare it causes, and it is a safety issue not only for me but for others. When the sun is out and it is hot (this summer) it is worst and causes the windshield to get hazy. Not sure if it is leaking chemicals as the dashboard is now soft, shiny and cannot be removed by cleaning. The glare is very dangerous and difficult to drive under the conditions. Thank you, donna marceau.

2008 Nissan Altima, dashboard is melting. It's hard to see when driving it puts a very bad glare on the windshield causing you not able to see out of when sun it out or oncoming traffic lights reflect on the windows . It's very sticky and the dashboard is about to fall apart. Knowing that the air bag is in the dash is a very concern due to the dash melting and possible may cause a fire overtime due to wires connected to the dash. There are a lot of complaints on this online even on Nissan facebook page and complaints shown on here. This needs to be recalled or fixed before someone gets hurt by not being able to see out there window due to the shiny glare. Nissan refuse to fix this defect as the service manger said that the dash should not be melting the way it is. I hope this gets fixed for the safety of all Nissan drivers this should be reviewed by corporate Nissan.

I have noticed that over the last several months 4-5 months, that my dashboard of my Nissan Altima coupe 2008 is beginning to melt. Initially, the defect appeared as a glossy, shiny hue to the dashboard along the edges but over time, its has now started to melt with severe glossy and sticky residue - the glare from the dashboard on my windshield is dramatic and becoming unsafe during afternoon driving. 17 Structure problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2013

Sections of my front dash are melting. The deterioration has left the dash in a tar like state that is sticky and shiny. The reflection from the sun is so bright that driving is difficult around noon. The car is parked in a garage 90% of the time so there is no reason other than poor quality for this to have happened. I have contacted my local Nissan dealership and Nissan directly and they both are unwilling to offer any assistance as the car is out of warranty. I completely understand that but it is dangerous to drive and I am worried that if the glare prevents me from seeing another car or pedestrian someone could be injured. Nissan should accept responsibility for the poor quality and rectify the problem before an accident happens.

20 Structure problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2013

2008 Nissan Altima coupe's dashboard is melting. I live in florida and apparently Nissan didn't take into account the weather here when using material for their dashboards on this year and model. The whole top dashboard is sticky and looks like a wet substance. Because of this it creates an intense glare that is a sever safety hazard when driving. I called 1800-Nissan and they don't want to do anything even though they used faulty material. This is a known concern since others have had the same issue. If u do a google search of this issue, you'll find its a very common problems for nearly all Nissan Altima (2008) who live in southern climates and Nissan will not accept responsibility of this issues, does someone has to die in a accident or get dismembered ? thank you.

21 Structure problem

Failure Date: 04/02/2013

I own a 2008 Nissan Altima coupe. The dashboard which is the original has begun to melt and the glare is very bad. I have not added any solvents or chemicals to the dashboard. I find it hard to drive on sunny days due to my windshield reflecting the glare caused by the melting dashboard. This problem could have caused me to be in numerous accidents. I have searched for a remedy to this problem yet the only one is to replace the dashboard and I imagine this would just happen again due to the material the dashboard is made from. I would hope Nissan recalls these dashboards and makes new ones. I have also looked into this and I am not the only one with this problem.

Affected area of vehicle :dashboard this is a safety hazard! this vehicle was purchased on 7/14/2012. At the time of purchased it has approximately 36889 miles. Purchased as a previously owned vehicle. About 1 month after, we noticed that the top of the dashboard by the windshield material started to melt. The material, is like a foam that gets hot, sticky and start to melt. It can start a fire any minute. We took the vehicle to the Nissan dealership, located at semoran blvd in orlando, FL, the same place we bought the car 2 months before. The staff at the dealership proceeded to inform me that, after several visits, that they never seen something like that. That they couldn't do anything because the warranty expired. We took the vehicle to a Nissan authorized shop. The technician informed us that for the Nissan model for that year 2008 the material used was not the standard one. We are reaching out to Nissan to remedy this problem immediately. This is not only an issue that needs to be cover by the manufacturer and present a safety hazard to my family and the community in general. If we don't hear from Nissan in 10 days we are going to go to bbb and the government.

26 Structure problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2012

I purchased a brand new 08 Nissan Altima 2. 5s in September of 2007. I live in central florida, and for more than a year, my dashboard has turned shiny, sticky, and is quite literally melting. The last 6 months to a year, I noticed that the part around the radio unit has been cracking and "softening". In the daytime, the shiny melting part of the dash reflects onto my windshield and creates a blinding glare that makes it difficult and dangerous to even see the road. I have tried various cleaning solutions until I realized that wasn't the problem. I have come across many people who have been experiencing the same problem, most in florida, and all 2008 Altimas. I will enclose a link to the forum where many Altima owners have found thanks to google with the issue. I would be happy to send some pictures of the dashboard if necessary. . Read more...

There is a consistent issue with this particular maker, model and year. The "melting dashboard". The material used to make the rubber-type dashboard begins to "melt". The surface is sticky and causes very bad windshield sun glare, which can be dangerous. My wife will not drive car because of this. I have documented photos and comments from other car owners.

30 Structure problem

Failure Date: 08/02/2010

I bought my 2008 Nissan Altima coupe 2. 5 s brand new from the dealer with no problems whatsoever. This car is in great condition, but the only problem is the dashboard. But over the course of 5 years my car's dashboard has been progressively melting and I believe that if it is not fixed by the manufacturer it can lead to a safety problem on all cars that have this problem. Personally I have never seen a dashboard melt, so I would really appreciate if this can be recalled and fixed because honestly its a manufacturers problem, not a consumers. Thank you for your time.
