1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/13/2023

I went to autoworx on February 9, 2023 to purchase a 2009 Nissan Altima. The vehicle was very nice, looked good, no warning lights or anything. Drove great for about a week or 2. Then the car started breaking without me pressing the breaks. So I returned the car to autoworx to have them check it out. The mechanic was assuring that the problem had been taking care of. After making another large payment that day, I left drove the car about a week. That's when the car started shaking. I mean shaking hard too and the service engine soon light comes on the dash board. So I take the car back to them on Monday March 13, 2023. The mechanic says "OH, make an appointment for Friday and I'll take the car to the shop so I can see what is going on". I made the appointment & continued to drive the car. In the days between Monday to Friday, the car began shaking harder. Suddenly, on Thursday March 16, 2023,while driving home the car stops accelerating. I had to keep turning the car off and on to get it going. On Friday, March 17, 2023 I arrived at the autoworx location at 10:30am (the appointment time). When I arrived no one was there. We sat and waited for nearly an hr and a half. Once they arrived they looked at the car, drove it away and came back. After sitting there for 2/3 hours, the owner (daniel) called me outside to inform me that the catylac converter was bad (which they knew on Monday when I came in) and by me driving the car longer, the transmission has went out. At this point I am furious! because at no point did they tell me that the car needed a catalytic converter. So we sat there a little longer with no way to go home. Daniel then comes and mentions "I'll get you all an uber". He ordered the uber (just to get us away). I have looked into the carfax on the 2009 Nissan Altima and found that the odometer had been rolled back several times. I bought the car at 121,000 miles. After, looking at the carfax the car has darn near 300,000 miles on it. I got ripped off ?.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2020

While in motion and making a left turn onto an intersection my steering wheel was making it more difficult to continue turning left and then it locked. Was going to hit a concrete barrier between road and sidewalk where pedestrians walk, had to hit the brakes to prevent a crash. After a couple of seconds the car iluminated all the lights in the dash and told me the car was off. I was able to turn on the car, the steering wheel unlocked and was able to go in reverse a bit to complete my left turn. Had a similar scenario many years ago when first purchasing the car, when accelerating in the highway nd driving straight the steering wheel locked and the car stopped accelerating because the gas pedal locked, couldnt turn tge steeribg wheel at all. Felt as if the car turned itself of even though car electronics were on such as the radio. Seconds later the lights iluminated in the dash and was able to turn on the car and steeribg wheel unlocked. Brought my car to the dealer but they could not find any issues, so they decided to restart the computer and did not have the problem again until last Thursday where it turned off on me while turning. Exrremely dangerous and car is unsafe to drive.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2020

When driving for a period of time in heat, the car loses speed and begins to drop on its own. And if utilizing manual, the gears won't downshift. I've had to pull over numerous times and wait about 15 mins before driving again and it's fine. I was informed that the car needs a transmission cooler kit installed. I've seen numerous complaints of this issue and wonder why a recall has not been done on this. This is a safety issue especially driving on a highway and the car suddenly loses speed. Date listed below is the last time this issue has happened. But, has happened previously a year ago on a trip and recently prior to last time, a month ago.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2019

On more then one occasion when driving on the freeway for about 45 min. The acceleration speed drops to about 40 mph. And when going on hills its even worse. This has been going on for some time now, but now I have a second Altima that is having very similar issues. After sitting on the side of the freeway for a hour, the car returns to normal. This can not be a normal problem, I have searched and found that a number of people have had very similar issues and in fact I received a letter stating that 2014-2018 Nissans where having acceleration issues. ( I have attached the letter) I have 2 cars now that have the same issue and I can not afford to fix them, especially if I am not 100% sure what the correction is. I have also attached copies of others that have the same issues, and you will see that some have tried to fix but get different responses on the fix. Please help!! thanks.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2019

My grandson and I were taking a 2 and 1/2 hour trip to visit family I was driving about an hour on the freeway going on an uphill and I began to hear a whining sound and my speed started to decrease from 70 then to 60 and it started to decrease more so I then got off the freeway turned off the car and waited about a half an hour I then decided that it would not be safe to continue my trip but the location that I was in was not a safe area for me and my grandson to wait for a tow truck I then decided to head back one exit down where they would be more lighting the car drove fine I was able to pick up speed with no problem but again I thought it would not be safe to continue driving so I then call the tow truck and how does tow back home what I did notice was when I accelerate the gas pedal the engine did not rev at a higher level nor did the speed increase but to my little knowledge with cars it was telling me it wasn't the transmission slipping, pressing the accelerater and not hearing your engine accelerate but car is still moving but lower speed just did not make sense to me. This could have caused an accident it was mid afternoon on a freeway that commuters often use I was lucky that the off ramp was near for me to exit.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/07/2019

After driving approximately 1. 5 hours on a family trip and on the interstate my car slowed all the way down to from speeds of 60 -70mph to barely not moving at all. Clearly this frighten my entire family. After resting on the side of the interstate for almost an hour the car resumed but started to repeat the same pattern. It also barely pulled up a hill. This car has done this before and the nissian dealership stated that it could need a tune up. So before going on the family vacation listed above I had a tune up and oil change done but guess what. The problem still exists.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2017

Coming home from florida in 2013, the car lost all power going down the interstate. We were able to push the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the car would not go any faster. Once we stopped and let the car sit for 15-20 minutes, we were able to go another 100-150 miles before it happened again. This has also happened twice driving home from murfreesboro. We went to florida for vacation this year and the same thing happened on the way there and on the way home. After doing some research and talking to some mechanics, we have been told that this is not the first time they have heard about this and there are numerous complaints on the internet about this same problem.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2017

While driving down the interstate once the engine gets hot the car loses all power. No warning lights come on and once you stop the car and let the engine cool down it runs fine.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/17/2016

Catalytic converter not working causing the car to drive ineffectively, car speed declines and sometimes the car rpms stay at 3000 and won't accelerate.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/08/2016

My 2009 Nissan Altima slows down from 75 mph to 40-35 after traveling for 4 hours on long distance (trips) . I have had to pull over several times in order for the car to cool off and gain speed. It is extremely dangers to when big trucks and other vehicles are coming behind you at a fast speed and you have to pull over quickly. I have to put a transmission valve kit and cooler on my car because Nissan neglected to put these parts on my car. Shame on you Nissan. How can you sleep at night knowing your error, greed, or lack of compassion can cause people their lives while on the highway. This is a safety issue that has been complained about on various blogs and no recall has taken place. I am annoyed and then my case manager for my complaint told me I should have taken out the extended warranty. No, don't blame this on me. This is a manufacturing issue. It is unfair to pass the blame unto the consumers. Safety is first or has the new generation of manufactures forgotten about this.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/16/2016

When driving the vehicle for no reason the engine slows down and when I try to accelerate by pressing on the gas pedal the engine does not respond. After a minute or two the engine responds and speeds up. There is also a whirring sound when this happens. This happens when the vehicle is in motion mainly on the highway. This has the ability to cause a traffic problem or an accident. I think the problem may be in the electronic throttle control.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/02/2015

I have a 2009 Nissan Altima which I bought brand new. My car has only 76k miles. The problem is there is rust forming at the floorbeds which is making the car unsafe and is causing brakes issues. I was told Nissan knew about the rust problem from a very longtime. Last week, I spend $210 to fix air leaks due to failed sensors. The problem is affecting brakes and sensors of the car which is making the car unsafe.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2015

I haven't been happy since I had my car, which I purchased in 2012 with 45, 0000 miles at the time of purchase. I complained about so many things every other month I was going to get it checked. When you hit a bump you can here something loose underneath the front end of course I seemed like the only crazy one hearing the noise. Then when I took it back again I was told the sway bar arms need to be replaced when this was a problem when I first purchased the car they just ignored now my warranty is expired . The steering lock was one issue and I was told through the dealership that there was not a recall on my car. Until I contacted you guys I was told that there was a recall. Now when I drive the car at a certain speed it starts wining and slows down to 60 mph with the gas pedal to the floor I am furious because I was traveling on the interstate 4 different times going out of town and this happened. Someone could have ran into the back of me. I changed out the air filter thinking that may have been the problem but no it continued. Also sometimes the car wouldn't start I was told by Nissan I needed a new battery and I had it checked by someone else they said the battery was fine. The passenger sensor light stays on when an adult is sitting there. Now my sister 2013 Nissan Altima transmission is gone and she only had the car almost two years and we were complaining about the issue with the car going a certain speed and making noise. I went to Nissan and they told me my car can be put on the machine, but I would have to pay to have it checked. Too many people having the same problems with these cars.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2015

The first incident occur while driving on the interstate at about 75 mph. All of a sudden the car began to slow down at a steady pace. It would not let me accelerate even with the pedal pressed all the way to the floor and it began to make a whining noise. I pulled over and let the car sit for a while and when I started driving again the drove normal like nothing happened. The second incident occur about 7 months later while driving on the interstate again at about 60mph. This time the car didn't slow down, but it would let me accelerate pass 60 mph and the rpm needle never moved. After letting the car sit I started to drive again and every time I accelerated the car began to jerk violently and started making the same whining noise. After letting the car sit for a while longer it drove normal. The Nissan dealership repair shop couldn't find a problem. The check engine light never came on to indicate a problem.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/14/2014

I own a 2009 Nissan Altima coupe with approximately 60k miles. When driving on the interstate at speeds in excess of 60mph, the car decelerates with no warning. During the first incident, I was on the left-hand side of a semi truck caught in their blindspot while they were trying to switch lanes. I attemtped to pass this truck only to have my car slow down completely, even with gas pedal to the floor. Vehicles behind me had to change lanes suddenly to avoid rear ending me, and I almost became the victim of a serious accident with this semi truck. Fearing a similar incident on the trip back, I stayed safely in the right hand lane going just below the posted speed (70mph). As I approached an incline on the interstate, not only would my car not speed up, it would not even maintain speed. It quickly went from 66mph to 55mph. Once again, I was almost involved in a serious collision with the unsuspecting vehicles behind me. After getting a diagnosis done at my local Nissan dealership, I was informed that my transmission was overheating. Nissan has admitted to knowing these issues, by automatically extending the warranty on these cvt transmissions to 10yr/120k. However, the way around actually paying to fix these death traps is to inform the consumer that the "fix" is not a new transmission, rather an external cooler that needs to be installed. These are commonly found in larger SUV's and trucks to help compensate for the additional stress on the transmission, due to larger size/weight. I drive a 2-door Altima. I am not towing boats or pavers. If my tiny car needs an external cooler to help its faulty transmission function safely and properly, that should have been installed at manufacturing. The out of pocket cost for this cooler is $1000+. Nissan needs to be held accountable for the faulty product they manufactured. This could result in serious injury or death.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/18/2014

Was pulling into parking spot with my foot on the brake rolling to a stop when the car suddenly accelorated and before I could lift my foot and reapply brake I had gone over the curb and into a bush.

The contact crashed into a tree, but no injuries were sustained. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic for inspection. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer has been notified of the incident. The exact failure mileage was 32608. - ll.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/24/2013

As my family and I was traveling out of town, the car's acceleration appeared to decline out of no where. Even with the gas pedal pressed completely down to the floor, there was no change in speed. It made a whining noise as well. Since the first incident it has happened 8 times that I can count over the past year and a half. I have taken it to the dealer several times and they have not been able to recreate the issue nor get a code. So my issue still exists. It only happens on long distance trips where I drive more than 40 miles or so at 75 mph or more, usually 80mph. The most recent incident happened this past weekend and my young daughter and I were almost killed by a tractor trailer so I once again took the car in to the Nissan dealer and once again they could not recreate the issue. It's pretty frustrating when you know there's an issue but you can't get a resolution. Like I would make up an issue to pay for, that's dumb! they want you to take it to an authorize Nissan dealer but what good does that do when they can't find or fix the issue.

30 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2012

While on a 4 hour trip in the middle of the summer , the engine would wine and then suddenly start losing speed and be unable to accelerate. It is extremely dangerous when your top speed is 45 mph in a 75mph speed limit zone. No one knew what the issue was and it only happened in the middle of the summer. Nissan is now aware of the issue and a) cannot guarantee it can fix the problem and b) cannot guarantee it will not happen again even if they replace the transmission.
