1 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/05/2024

I purchased this car and the dashboard is melting and sticky. It’s affecting visibility to the point where I found myself trying to lift up to look overtop of the blinding glare on my windshield due to my melting dashboard and got into an minor accident like was reflecting off the dashboard onto the windshield obstructing my view and resulted in me rear bumping into the rear of another car that was towing a very small trailer that I couldn’t see through the reflection on the windshield. Since then im noticing almost every dashboard on a Nissan Altima look the same if not worse and absolutely has to and needs to be acknowledged by Nissan for Nissan Altimas everywhere, not just in florida. A recall needs to be issued to resolve this very serious safety hazard. I’m lucky no one was injured. Please address this issue so people can get the dashboard repaired without costing them even more money than they already paid for your defective product.

Unknown. . . I just got this car I haven't even had it put in my name yet but when I drive it there's a really bad glare I thought it was something sticky from the previous owner that was on the dash but it's not I got some goo off and tried to clean it off and tried to use a scraper and it's never ending stickiness so I thought that was kind of weird so I looked it up online florida has a recall on this vehicle for the dash melting my dash is literally melting but they don't have a recall in georgia, texas or anywhere else there's such a bad glare on this car that I almost hit somebody walking down the road and another incident I almost hit a kid on a bicycle because it affects your visibility I think that Nissan should have to replace this. This is a safety issue and it's very dangerous luckily I saw them both in time I would hate to see if somebody didn't see them in time I looked up the price of it and it's almost $2,000 to have the dash replaced thats an insane amount of money for something that I feel like is Nissan's fault its clearly a faulty dashboard. It melts if it gets too hot and it puts this glare on the windshield and its not just a small glare it is terrible so I wanted to see if I could get something done or if maybe we could make Nissan fix the cars in georgia and everywhere else that has this car it seems to only be 2008 and 2009 I believe so far from looking it up on the internet today but there's got to be something that we can all can do to make them pay to fix it everywhere I mean it's not only affecting drivers in florida it's affecting every one of these cars I'm sure. . . In every state our kids matter I almost hit that kid on that bike and kids in florida shouldn't matter more than the kids in georgia or any other state for that matter and I think that it's ridiculous that they were allowed to only fix cars in florida for that that's the most ridiculous thing I've ever heard this is a danger to everyone and I was hoping y'all could help me.

Dashboard is melting. Sticky and shiny in hot sun causing severe visibility problems.

4 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/31/2019

The dashboard and steering wheel on my 2009 Nissan Altima are melting due to the high temperatures in the cabin. When the vehicle is in the sun, the top surface of the dashboard melts, and restricts the forward visibility by causing a glare on the windshield. This makes it extremely difficult to see objects that are close to the vehicle in the sun.

8 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2017

I was driving my car on regular roads about to get on a highway without any issue with all functions perfectly working. Then all of a sudden my turn signals would not activate by the toggle switch, however the hazard button would activate them. Then my headlights turned off on their own(this was at 2 am in pitch dark area and raining). I tried turning the switch all the way off then back on after pulling over, nothing worked even with turning my car off entirely then back on. My headlights wouldn't work, blinkers nor my windshield wipers. My car has never been in an accident or had any other failures. I was informed by the dealer that the issue was nothing I could have possibly done as an operator. It was something that went wrong at the factory when the car was built. I am only writing this because this is a huge concern as I had to find my way home with only my hazard lights blinking every other second. It was very dangerous. The dealer stated that the part that failed was a "body control module is $919. 35, part, labor" which is an insane amount of money for 1 part. However it is so expensive because once replaced the entire car and key fobs need to be reprogrammed by Nissan and only a authorized Nissan dealer can acquire said programming tools/software. Sure my car is a 2009 however the dealer said this is very uncommon to randomly short out in general but especially while driving because of how dangerous the effects can be even with the age of the vehicle. I love my car but adding this kind of technology that controls all these functions without a fail safe is an awful method of production. After this experience I felt the need to share it with the Nissan owner community.

10 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2015

Dash board melting very sticky can't clean blinding glare in windshield when in sun hard to see oncoming traffic this should be a recall but as I have read this is a major concern in hot humid climate along with the steering lock defects . Seems Nissan doesn't care about safety only wants to sell the vehicle and take the profits.

13 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/15/2015

I have 2009 Nissan Altima and it has a very sticky, shiny dashboard. 16 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2015

Melting dashboard cannot see out the windshield when sun is shining on the dash. Glare is so bright. Dash collects dirt. If you touch it you finger will sink into the melting dash.

17 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2015

Direct sun radiating on the dashboard has resulting in a deterioration of the surface, creating a sheen that creates a reflection on the windshield that is a constant distracts and under certain circumstances (depending on where the sun is at on the horizon), can impair the driver's view of traffic and objects in front of the vehicle. The deterioration of the dashboard began after about five years of being owned and operating in texas (and resulting sun and heat), but is becoming increasingly problematic as the dashboard surface continues to degrade.

18 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/31/2014

On October 31st the red airbag light started flashing on my dashboard. I took the vehicle into my nearest dealership on November 13th to complete a diagnostic. I was informed that it was that there is no signal coming from the passenger occupancy sensor for the airbag and that in the event of an accident the airbag may or may not deploy. Also it was noted on the invoice that there is no sign of any damage to the wiring. Of course my vehicle is not under recall and no longer under warranty. My dashboard is also melting and the material that is used causes extreme glare. So not only do I have a large glare across my window which increases my risk of an accident but possibly no airbag to boot. I contacted Nissan since this exact same issue has been found in other years of my model and recalled. All Nissan has continued to do is say my vehicle is no longer under warranty and that they will forward my complaint for review.

21 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/18/2014

Help, a melting and shiny sticky dash on my 2009 Altima generates a tremendous glare on the windshield and prevents me from clearly viewing the highway in front during the day. It also distors the viewing during the night due to the on-comming vehicles headlights. It is highly serious and dangerous driving safety hazard problem that could/will "it is just a timing issue" cause an accident, the dash can't be clean and is melting. It is also minimazing the value of the vehicle. Please advise if there is solution or recall from Nissan to fix this problem.

22 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2014

The dashboard of the car is melting. The areas on the dashboard that are affected are very sticky and can't be cleaned. With the dashboard melting, there is a glare that comes up from the dashboard onto the windshield which makes driving during the day both difficult and hazardous because of the limited visibility. I also don't know if this melting issue is causing any type of toxins or fumes to collect in the car interior.

30 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2013

I drive a 2009 Nissan ultima over a year ago I noticed something sticky on my dashboard. I had no idea what was happening. I finally realized "my dashboard is melting" I filed a complaint with Nissan but because the warranty was up they would not fix my $2,000 dashboard if I would have known this was to happen I would have never bought the car.

31 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/04/2013

I notice a shine started to build up on my dashboard. I thought that the car wash place might have used too much product so I stopped going to the carwash. I decided I was going to clean it off myself and when I went to clean it off I realized there was a thick film of sticky residue. The residue is was so sticky that nothing could take it off and everything would get stuck to it. After a few months the film kept growing to the point where the shine became almost glassy and too reflective. I realized the substance had become a hazard to my safety and those of others, so I proceeded to try a number of products to try and remove the film. I was unsuccessful and proceeded to do some research online, where I discovered that this is not a maintenance problem, but rather a factory defect that is well documented now with both this agency and Nissan itself. As far as I can tell there are at least 100 other cases. I would like Nissan to acknowledge and repair the problem before lives are lost.

32 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

My 2009 Nissan Altima dash is melting. Dash has cracks as well near the front passenger air bags and near the instrument cluster. Read in forums that the car dealerships say that when the dash has cracks and is melting air bags could not deploy correctly. Nissan will not replace dash due to the car being out of warranty and expect me to buy a new one when this seems like a manufacturing issue not taken into account as part of the design.

33 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2013

Last year right before my 2009 Nissan Altima was paid off, the dash became very sticky. This problem became progressively worse in the heat of the mississippi sun. Dust , bugs, flora, paper become embedded in the goo. It never dries. It just stays sticky and makes a dangerous glare on my windshield. I mistakenly thought my husband or I had done something wrong by cleaning the dash, but water would not cause this mess. I finally took it to my dealership who said they didn't know what had happened and gave me a $2000 estimate to replace the dash. Really? my car does not even have 60,000 miles on it now so Nissan has stuck us! I expected better from them. I recently discovered that there are 100's of 2009 melting dashes when I googled the subject. We have owned 2 sentras, 1 frontier truck, 1 stanza, and a maxima. I we are suffering from mental stress over this ridiculous situation! Nissan should recall these melting dash vehicles. Where is the morality????.

34 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2013

Well I have a black 09 Nissan Altima and I started to notice that my dashboard is very sticky and shiny and it looks like its melting. There is such a big glare that blocks your view when you're driving. I look online and saw that other people in florida have the same problem I do. In florida the weather is always hot. The cars in florida should be made to withstand the hot weather and not start melting. This is such a safety hazard for drivers.

35 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 04/09/2013

Last summer (2013), I noticed that my dashboard had started to have this sticky gluey substance on it. At first, I thought I had spilled something on the dashboard and so I started to clean it. I've used both car wipes and both a damp towel and the substance does not rub off. Rather, it collected the fibers from whatever I've used and it has gotten worse (due to the houston heat of the summer). I then concluded that the dashboard becomes sticky because it is melting. It's not so much the melting dashboard that gets me (even though it does diminish the value of the car, it's only a 2009), it is the glare that the melting dashboard reflects. The dashboard reflects a powerful glare in my front view window and it has become extremely difficult to drive. I constantly have to wear sunglasses in order to help with the glare that the dashboard reflects. Over the course of the year, the dashboard has gotten so bad that I have to ask a member of my family to drive me to where ever I need to go. This is an extreme problem. If the glare is this bad for me, I can only imagine how bad to must be for older generations that own this particular car. This spreading glare has the potential to be a big problem. It could be the onset of multiple accidents and even major harm. And so I ask you if you could please have Nissan fix this problem.
