My 2010 Nissan Altima has a "melting" dash, particularly around the defroster area. It is sticky in other parts of dash on sides and where it is molded. This problem has been reported on nbc5 in dallas, TX in the month of July for 2008-2009 models. To my surprise, my 2010 has same issue. I took car to dealer and they said they have seen lots Altima's with the same problem and nothing could be done except replacement, over $1000 dollars. I am still paying on this car (since 2014) and feel it should be fixed by Nissan since it is caused by them using a sub standard material. This car was manufactured in mississippi according to Nissan. It is a safety issue as it continues to disintegrate in high heat. Cannot park in sun & can't put sun screen up where melted, it sticks & makes permanent marks in dash. Since it appears shiny it gives off a glare on windshield. Nissan should be responsible for a fix. This is my second Altima and it did not have this issue! I can provide photo on request.
My dash board is super sticky/tacky, and has a glare when driving, when trying to remove the front pieces with a pry tool, the dash peels off in chunks and remains stuck on your finger/ pry tool like a melted wax. It's not the same consistency as the glove box, you can stick your fingernail in it and it leaves intentions, my paint is also coming off in large spots all over the car.
The dashboard is melting and has a very bad glare when the sun is out. This causes vision to be very poor and unsafe to drive and other cars and pedestrian. It is very dangerous and difficult to see while driving due to the glare. The issue with the dashboard is the same as the lawsuit that was filed against Nissan by a girard gibbs and Nissan lost. But it was for 2008-2009 models. I took the car to Nissan and the cost to replace the dashboard is $2634.
I have three issues with this car. The dash has melted, so much so I could not see out the windshield if the sun was out. The glare on the dash was blinding. I called Nissan and spoke to agent 'shelly', id #7312915, case # 32725497 in September 2018. I took it to one Nissan dealership and they said not a manufacturing defect, but gave me a quote of $3500 to repair. Took to another Nissan dealership and they gave me another quote for a repair using a dash from the junk yard for 1/2 the price. I gave up and finally purchased a dash cover in August 2019 for around $300 from carparts. Com and installed it myself. Very much a driving/safety concern! the sunroof leaks if more than a sprinkle. The back floor board stand in 3" of water. I have to take it to the dealership to have the headliner ripped out to clean the waterline from sunroof to outside (rear wheel well). I have taken it in 2-3 times at a cost of ~$150 each time. I need to go back now, but have currently duct taped the sunroof shut. The vdc and slip light, brake light and tire pressure lights are on. Have had them reset. Last time they told me to disregard the brake light. Just ignore it.
Car will not start. Battery is good. The key fail/malfunction signal keeps blinking. Now car is stuck in on position from when I pushed the start button.
Was putting my car in reverse and when I put my foot on the gas in stead of reverse the move forward, please have someone contact me immediately. Thank you. Althea bell 717-962-4169.
My dashboard on my 2010 Nissan Altima is melting/sticky and the gear handle is sticky and I've contacted the corporate office and was told there's nothing they can do for me. I was driving and there was a glare in the windshield! it's hard to see, it looks like the sun is shining directly into your eyes. This is an ongoing issue and this is truly a safety hazard and Nissan does not care at all.
Dash is so melted and reflects sun so much it I cannot see while driving or stopped. There was a class action lawsuit for 2008 and 2009 Altimas for this same defect. Toyota recalled for their melted dashboard. Nhtsa needs to care about our safety and recall Altimas!.
The problem is in the transmission. It is very stressful to know that I can't go faster than 35mph and specially super important that I have to stay under 5mpr or I might blow the motor I'm guessing.
Dashboard melting , getting sticking and glaring on front glass when driving, is very unsafe and it need to be replace please by manufacturer.
My dashboard has melted and it causes for the inside of the windshield to build a film. Its difficult to clean and I have to clean I at least once a day. The glare off the melted dash makes it difficult for me to see outside. I have included some pictures of the damage.
I've owned my ultima for approximately 9 years the dashboard is melting and cracking causing poor visibility, glares, melting dashboard with cracks causing wires to be exposed to hot heat and sun.
The dashboard on my 2010 Altima is melting. I have found many other owners complaining of this same problem and I believe there is a class action lawsuit in process for 2008 and 2009 models but have not found anything related to the 2010 model year. Besides being unsightly and annoying as many parts of the dashboard are soft and permanently sticky it is also dangerous. In certain lighting conditions the glare on the windshield reflecting off the shiny melting areas is quite significant indicated this occurred on 3/1/15 as a date was required. Obviously this has deteriorated over time and I am not the original owner.
The dash on the car is melted. There is a strong chemical smell in the car that we cannot get rid of and we are constantly having to clean the windshield during the summer months to remove a film that causes a horrible glare in the day and at night. The car was originally bought in texas but we live in oklahoma now. The problem started a few years ago but over time it has just gotten worse and now the dash is so sticky you cannot clean it other than vacuum the big pieces off.
My dashboard is melting and making it shiny that reflects to my windshield making it hard to see while driving.
Dashboard is melting and creating a glare on the windshield, sometimes making it difficult to drive.
At the dealership lot, the car was starting fine. As soon as we got home , the car would not start right away, sometimes it will take more than 30 minutes and one day my wife was stranded at a shopping center parking lot for hours before it started. Since it's been parked at home for a whole week and half, the car won't start at all, the battery is brand new and I purchased it pre-owned without waranty. After doing some research, it looks like there's issues with the intelligent key and the wheels locking control system. In order to pay for the car, I have to go to work but the car is stopping me to make it to work.
The dashboard on my 2010 Nissan Altima is melting. It creates a glare on the inside of the windshield when I'm driving affecting my vision.
Dash board is melting. Has become sticky and shinny causing a glare when sun hits it. This occurs from exposure to the sunlight.
Melted dash causing lack of visibility due to light reflects on driver. Complaint filed with Nissan and denied.
The dashboard is melting also with the sun light create a glare in windshield and block my view I thing is not safe because can haven anytime to driven special in afternoon when I driving Nissan said is not a safety problem I dont agree somebody have to died and why Toyota did a recall they have same problem.
The drivers power lock has stopped working, both opening and closing. This leaves the drivers door lock in a different state than the others. This is a safety hazard because it gives a false sense of security.
The dash board in the car in melting, the dealer coral springs auto mall is ignoring the problem with dash. The reflection from the dash in direct sun light is becoming a serious safety issue and needs to repaired and owners need to warned before an accident happens.
The dashboard is literally melting and has puddles of tacky residue. I live in florida. The vehicle was purchased in florida. The dashboard is breaking down and causing a dangerous glare on the windshield. It is a serious safety hazard for passengers, other mva's and especially pedestrians as they are almost impossible to see in daylight. The tacky substance cannot be cleaned. Anything that touches it sticks. Nissan knows about the problem. It is a defect in composite material and has not been caused by solvents or cleaners. Nissan refuses to cover dashboard replacement despite this being a known issue. The cost to replace is over $2k. Nissan has entered into a class action settlement for model years 2008 & 2009 (sanborn v. Nissan north America) but I have a 2010 and it has the same problem. 2010's should be recalled now and I shouldn't have to pursue legal action for this known and extremely dangerous defect but more importantly someone is going to get killed unless these dashboards are recalled and replaced. The problem seems to be most prevalent in florida based on what I've seen online. Please google "Nissan Altima melting dashboard" - it's not an uncommon complaint. I'm providing 2 pictures to demonstrate visibility when parked in the driveway as well as driving on the road. Try to locate the license plate on the truck in front of me, let alone read it. Now imagine if someone were to walk in front of my car.
Several times over the past few months and everyday for the past week, the car will not start during ignition due to the inability to depress the brake. The only way to get it to start is to repeatedly hit the brakes while pressing the start button. It never consistently works but eventually starts. After starting, the abs, vdc, and slip warning lights are illuminated. There have been multiple reports of the same thing happening with this model from other owners. This poses a serious risk to health particularly in times where one may need to leave immediately. More often, it is an extreme inconvenience. The dealership service departments want to charge over $500 to repair something that is clearly defective and systematic. Please do something about this as many Altima owners are experiencing the same frustration that I have endured.
Nissan Altima 2010 (~25k miles so far) would not start upon press the start button, so the car is immobilized. Walked away, came back 15 minutes, and by chance, it started. This happen several times for the past 2 months. The last try, no such luck when attempt to start the car. Check the car battery was at 45%. So I charged the battery to 100% and still no luck starting the car. Call Nissanassist and recommended the car be towed to Nissan authorized service center. I did and their diagnosis ($119. 00) are a bad brake switch/wiring harness combo issue and cost about over $600. 00. The car is now out of warranty. The local service manager said "off the record", this known defective brake switch will not allow the car to start, also it is consuming the battery electrical current and over time. This continuous bleeding of current will heat up the wire harness/connectors due to the car starting and its security features, and thus eventually draining your car battery and damaging the wire harness. That is why you will have a dead battery over time of 1-2 weeks. This is a money making proposition for Nissan corporation and the local service person mentioned about a rash of bad switch occurrences last year (2013). In short, if you don't use the Nissan service department for your car and spend $$$ with them, the Nissanassist won't help you defray the cost for the car defective as you did not "invest" with them . So NHTSA, people won't die with this defective, but will cause many inconveniences with dead cars at various locations where drivers turn off their cars and frustrated on attempting to start their cars. This is the same problem noted on Nissan blog and websites by frustrated Nissan Altima owners. In summary, can NHTSA investigated and force Nissan to issue a recall for this recurring problem as no one die yet? yes, no one will die from this.
The brake couldnt be pressed so the push button start wouldnt work. Also, the abs & vdc lights stay on even while driving(sometimes). You never know when its going to happen. I have been late to work, unable to take the kids to school, and afraid to drive my own car that I used to love, in fear of not being able to start the darn thing!! I see a lot of customers have had this same type of issue. Is there any kind of recall?.
I purchased a 2010 Nissan Altima about three years ago. The first problem started with the car failing to start. That problem still happens to this day. The next problem is my car will not accelerate at times. I have had several incident when I am at a stop light, intersection, or redlight where I apply the gas all the way to the foor and the car will not move. I put the car in reverse and it still would not move. After waiting about 20 second and apply the gas it finally goes and drive normal. Me and my kids whre almost in a serious accident when the car stalled in front of a big mack truck. Now after thi s has been going on for a couple of months, my car sits in my front yard unabe to move at all and now theres a burning smell coming from the car. These cars are a death trap and I refuse to keep putting my life and my children lives in danger. The government needs to do something!!!.
When driving door come unlocked . . Once car is parked and locked both windows are coming down and both doors are unlocked car wide open every hour or so . . . I am not pressing key fob or anything. .
I started to hear a rattling noise under the hood of my car. It was found to be that the alternator/clutch was about to go out. I could also hear it when driving and pressing my foot on the gas. The rattling noise was present when I was in park or reverse.
As approaching a stop light, brakes were difficult to "grab" and too extra pressure. Stop was rather slow, and anti-lock brakes appeared to kick in (by rough, staccato shaking typical of them applying). Only by pressing down as hard as I could did I prevent smashing into the car ahead of me. Dry, sunny florida conditions, no sand or slipping at all, just slow, odd braking. Then the engine seemed to be revving a bit - faster idling than normal while at the stop light. We are not talking about speeding here, or sudden braking, just a normal approach to a known stop sign or light. This is a serious safety issue. This happened a couple times, then did not repeat for a couple months. Then, when it did repeat, I asked the dealer about it. Always at a stop light or stop sign, always in danger of smashing into the car ahead of me or entering too far into the intersection if I could not control the stop. They were completely puzzled, and could not duplicate it because, as I said, it is very sporadic. An ispection did not reveal anything. They laughed at me, saying it was totally impossible for the anti-lock brakes to kick in if there is no skidding. Ok, so what was it then? it sure as heck seemed like anti-lock brakes! (I come from up north and have experienced anti-lock brakes kicking in on snow covered roads. . . ) since the initial reoccurrence, it went several months, about six, with no issues or repeats, then just the other day, it did it again twice more. I suspect it could be something to do with computer controls, rather than the brakes themselves, but I am no mechanic.
A recall needs to be made for 2010 models on the Altima due to melting dashes, everything gets stuck if something is placed on the dash. Please replace dashes!.
Nissan Altima sedan 2010 sl (leather) with cvt transmission; after driving with the ac on during heat wave I noticed water on driver/passenger floor dripping from the center console. I rarely use the ac rather have the windows open. After research online (this site as well with another complaint) and bring to a Nissan dealer they indicated the ac (condensation) drip pan drain/tube may be clogged or the sunroof drains may be clogged. They indicated that the cabin air filter may have deposited debris and dirt into the ac pan causing it to clog. . . Nissan needs to fix this problem or seal the pan next to the cabin filter so nothing can be transferred or moved to the filter/area to the nearby drains. I previously had the cabin filter replaced by a repair center spring 2013.
There were 3 incidents. First, I was driving on the washington beltway, in October 2012. I was driving about 65 mph. The vehicle stalled and I coasted to the shoulder. I was terrified. Second, I was driving on I-95 at around 50 mph the vehicle would not respond to the accelerator. I gave it gas but nothing happened. I was able to coast to the shoulder. Third, I was once again on the freeway, traveling at speed and the vehicle was non responsive to the accelerator. I coasted and eventually it did respond. The 2010 Nissan Altima is equipped with the cvt. There are hundreds of complaints all around the internet about this very same problem. . Read more...
This vehicle stalls or loses power when driving. It seems to happen during long trips, especially in hot weather during prolonged driving (several hours). It seems to do well if kept at highway speed, but as soon as the car makes a stop or slows down, it completely stalls or accelerates with great difficulty at insufficient speed. It is a dangerous traffic hazard. The Nissan dealer expressed surprise when I called him regarding this problem. He said it was probably a batch of poor gasoline. After we experience another power failure, we took the car to the Nissan dealer to check it out, but they could not find the problem. After running tests, our personal mechanic said he thought it was a transmission problem, but we had the transmission analyzed and serviced, and the battery cables checked. The car recently lost power again on a trip from montana to California. It lost power at stop signs or when I had to decelerate and then try to accelerate. After the car was turned off for the evening, it did not start the next morning, at first. Later it started and drove fine. I see there have been other complaints about other Nissans losing power or stalling. I would appreciate it if you would tell me what steps you are taking to address this problem.
