1 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/27/2024

While driving on a highway at 65 mph, the hood of the car completely opened. When attempting to close it, the latch that holds the hood wouldn't hold it at all. There were no warning lights, when I called the dealership they said that because there were no recalls on it currently, they couldn't do anything. The hood completely blinded us and dented the roof and sides of our car.

2 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/28/2022

While driving at 35mph on a city road the car hood flew up open & smashed into the windshield despite their supposed fix of hood latch spring being replaced & assembly lubricated by the Nissan dealership in Aug 2021 due to a Nissan hood latch recall (NHTSA recall 16v-029) in response to a class action lawsuit. At highway speeds, this would have seriously compromised human lives. In this case, neither the primary hood latch lever or fuel door release lever had been pulled open by the driver just prior to the incident; yet the hood flew open without warning. (hoods have primary latches located inside the vehicles, then secondary latches located under the hoods. Primary hood latches in the cars are located too close to the fuel door latches that might cause drivers to accidentally unlatch the hoods instead of the fuel doors. Then once the primary hood latch is pulled in the Altima, the secondary latch under the hood fails to hold the hood down, allowing the Altima hood to open while driving. ) no warning lights or messages came on. The car was not drivable & was towed to the Nissan dealership where it is currently pending repairs estimate $5234. 58. At this time, Nissan motors accepts no liability for this incident; clearly shifting the blame again. Nissan motors has issued multiple (2014, 2015, 2016, 2020, 2022interim) hood latch recalls in response to this problem in various Nissan models 2013-2018, the most recent in 2022 (still in progress). Design and manufacturing defects allegedly cause the hoods to open while driving at any speed. According to the Altima class action lawsuit, Nissan blames the problems on multiple sources but still can’t properly repair the cars. The Altima hood latch systems are allegedly not strong enough to perform in real-world conditions and aren’t up to industry standards used for more than 100 years. The return springs are also allegedly too weak, as are the locking systems which prevent the hoods from securely latching.

We have a 2013 Nissan Altima that we haven't driven at night for over 4 years. There was a lawsuit over headlamp issue and plaintiffs won. So we filed our claim in Jan when we received postcard. We rec'd a ticket # and took it to our Nissan dealer after the April 1st, when allowed. They replaced the 2 recalls under our VIN # but concluded our lights are fine. They are not! we can't see 2 feet in front of us at night. To prove this we drove it yesterday to our good Friday service at our church. We almost crashed. You can't see the lines on the road in front of you! we had to drive with our brights on and blind everybody. That's the only way to drive it at night. I see on Nissan's webpage that there is a headlight recall dated 3/24/22 pc861 but you don't have a safety id#. I figured that's why Nissan didn't honor that recall. I joined the niisan club and there are many people that also were denied as headlights fine according to their "new bulletin" Nissan sent to all dealerships after the lawsuit was settled. Seems they are not honoring to replace the headlamps even though we can't see or drive our cars at night. I'm at a loss why your agency hasn't given this a safety issue. I don't know what to do. My husband was so angry to learn the dealership deemed our lights fine he started screaming at the management. They even admitted our lights our dim but according to Nissan's CO. Bulletin they don't meet the replacement standards. I guess we just wait to crash at night before it causes you to assign a safety id #. I know we can't be the only ones complaining of being rejected. The Nissan dealership is on rt 19 in wexford, PA.

My 2013 Nissan Altima is included in the notice of class action settlement rafael suarez et. Al. V. Nissan north America, inc. ,no. 3:21-cv-000393-wlc-an. This settlement was reached in late 2021. On or about April 11,2022 my vehicle failed a Nissan dealer conducted test thus qualifying it for replacement headlights. The lumens emitted from the headlights are degraded due to delamination of the headlamp covering. Basically, there is insufficient light to safely drive the car at night in my particular case. The problem is that Nissan n. A. Claims they are unable to provide the headlights due to supply chain issues. Any corporation can overcome supply chain issues should they wish to place the resources needed to overcome any obstacles. In this case the issue is one of safety for myself and the other Nissan drivers that have not received replacement headlights. I have contacted Nissan n. A. Customer service hot line (800-647-7261) numerous times (with documented case numbers) but no information is forth coming on when the replacement headlamp coverings will be available. Nissan n. A. Advices contacting the local Nissan dealer for updated information however they have only what Nissan provides them. With the summer driving season (with longer hours of natural light) coming to the an end, the need for the headlights is all the more important during the shorten winter days. Nissan has been less than forth coming with information as to when the replacement covers will be available. Help from the ntsb is needed to "encourage" Nissan n. A. To provide the headlight covers. Case numbers in the Nissan customer service systems include among others, #46093980, #46431416, #46856238 and #47154211.

5 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2021

Very hard to steer and check engine light come on after a very loud beep.

6 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2020

The low beam headlights are almost impossible to use during the dark and triple the concern when driving at night and it's raining. This used to not be the case. This is a safety hazard!!! this happens whether street driving or highway driving and essentially makes me have to use the bright lights when there is absolutely no other natural lighting to help.

7 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/30/2020

Headlights extremely dim causing night driving hazard. Issue is due to degradation of reflector in headlight housing. I had to replace both headlight assemblies to resolve safety issue with the car. This is apparently a pronounced problem with Nissan Altimas per Nissan online forums. Photo shows replacement headlight on left and the original defective headlight reflector on the right.

8 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/23/2020

The low beams for my 2013 Altima sl have become too dim for me to see at night. I have had to start using the high beams to see at night which could cause problems for other drivers, but if I didn't use them I could crash due to poor visibility.

9 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2020

Driving on highway, absolutely no warning at all, hood flies open suddenly slamming into windshield while driving!!! after screaming of course, tried to keep vehicle straight, slowed, pulled over to right to safety. Unbelievably no other vehicles hit/involved, no crash - my vehicle has damage to hood, roof, both front fenders, interior overhead controls dropped out of the ceiling. Nissan not yet committing to paying for it 100% !!!!!! even though a recall on this item was issued 1 month ago, and I found articles on this problem with the car going back to 2014 - and Nissan dealership just had my car 4 months ago (March) working on another different recall !!!!.

10 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2020

Lighting on the 2013 Nissan Altima is a safety risk and potential liability waiting to happen. The visibility with the stock lights will limit your visibility and puts you and passengers at risk. This has to be corrected and taken seriously by Nissan. The light that is illuminating has to be out of code for a legal acceptable vehicle.

11 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/22/2020

You can not use regular lights to see with this car at night. You may get a good foot of lighting in front of the car. Very dangerous. You could be driving down the highway and be surprised by a curb or going down a street at night with no lighting around you and hit something bc you can't see anything. The brights work wonders but I can't just go around blinding people. . .

12 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2020

The headlights are getting dimmer over time to the point you are unable to see at night to safely operate the vehicle. The reflective material inside the headlight assembly appears to be deteriorating and replacing the bulb does not help.

13 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/10/2019

Head light low beams are extremely dim. Even, I cannot see 2 meters in front of the car at nights. And this problem is not related with the light bulbs. It is related with the headlight projector housing (confirmed from different auto shops and internet complaints) that is losing its effectiveness by the time. Also, repairing this problem is very costly. Basically, both headlight assemblies have to be changed. We, as Altima owners, are waiting for the recall action specifically for this problem from the Nissan company. Unfortunately, it is very common safety problem among 2013 -2015 Altimas.

14 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

The headlamp projector is faulty, the light bulb works fine, the light projection isn't strong enough to see at night (in nyc). I have to drive with high beams on and those aren't even brighter than some cars normal lights. Nissan needs to fix this.

15 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/01/2019

Factory lighting is dim, cannot see at night. The projection is not strong enough for nyc night time. I need to use high beams and those arent even that good. It is not the light bulb.

16 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/03/2019

2013 Altima headlights are unsafe. And after looking thru many complaints it looks as if the 2013-2015 were made with little care at all to civiliazation. There are many recalls and headlights should most definitely make the list. A car 5-6 yrs old shouldn't lose its headlights brightness. Never have I seen this before in any automobile. It's a shame you guys are making the public fix consistent problems on Nissans end. Nobody has an extra $1500 lying around to fix a headlight assembly that should last 10+ years. Not only is that my only complaint, I also join the list of having no air conditioning due to problems no mechanic can seem to fix. Thanks for listening and hopefully the recall for these issues will be issued.

17 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2019

The low beam headlights on the 2013 Altima are extremely dim. My car has 95,000 miles. I basically am unable to tell if my lights are on at night and can only see a few feet in front of the vehicle. This appears to be a widespread issue. I have attempted to contact Nissan; however, no response was received. This is extremely dangerous and there will be a serious injury or death due to this issue unless Nissan is forced to correct the problem with a recall. Please help!.

18 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2019

The headlights are super dim when I am driving at night. I have replaced my headlights twice now to the brightest lights you can buy. When I drive at night I have to turn on my bright lights because I am not able to see the road in front of me with the regular headlights on. It is not safe to drive at night due to the headlights being so dim. I have been dealing with this issue since I purchased the car last summer.

19 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/09/2019

One morning this summer, I sat down in my car and started the engine. I heard a loud pop and a large crack appeared, running down the middle of the windshield. The windshield was not struck by anything and was not moving at the time of the incident.

20 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2019

Low beam headlights so dim that they provide almost no light to see the road. I've see similar complaints from many Nissan Altima 2013-15 owners. This is unsafe and Nissan won't acknowledge this. It had been getting worse over the past year. I replaced bulbs but they did no good. Problem is in headlight reflector housing which reflects bulb's light. Lining degrades/burns off and light then gets absorbed, not reflected.

21 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/21/2019

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima 2. 5 s. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds the vehicle headlights are very low and the contact would have to put on her high beams in order to see. No warning light illuminated. No diagnosis test done at this time. The dealer was not contacted. The failure recurred multiple times. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000. Ck.

22 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2019

Can not move the gear shift out of park at times, I have to use the gear shift release mechanism. The gear shift will move sometimes but more often than not. My headlights are so dim I can't drive my car at night because of it. I have installed brighter lights and that was waste of money because they still don't shine brighter.

23 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/15/2018

Lo-beam headlights fail to illuminate the road. Having owned the car since new, I began noticing dim headlights after approximately 4-5 years of ownership at 60k miles or so. Night driving became hazardous so I replaced the bulbs with oem parts but saw no improvement. Driving at night now requires use of hi-beams as the road is barely visible with low beams + fog lamps.

24 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 09/13/2018

My Nissan Altima 2013 is suffering from a severe defect when it comes to the cars low beams. The low beams have an issue with the projectors in the headset, it's not an issue with the light bulbs. This makes driving at night dangerous and Nissan is not taking accountability for this design issue since this is not a light bulb burning out this is an issue with the design for the headlamps themselves. I can barely see the lines on the road.

25 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2018

Headlights gradually get dimmer and dimmer making it very difficult and dangerous to drive at night. This is an obvious safety hazard. The problem is not simple wear and tear, rather it is the breaking down of certain materials within the headlight assembly. All it takes is a simple google search online of "2013 Nissan Altima dim headlights" or "2013 Nissan Altima headlight problems" to see that there are multiple websites where many people have posted the same problem. The diagnosis for me, and for everybody else I've read about online, is that the projection lenses become hazed over and/or the reflective material in the reflector bowl deteriorates, and the only way to fix the problem is to purchase the entire headlight assembly, and the average costs of parts and labor is over $1000. 00 (my estimate at the local Nissan dealership/service shop is $1089. 53). Some testimonials online reported having this issue with as little as 30,000 in mileage. My issue started to arise at about 50,000 miles. This is a huge safety issue affecting many many people, thus a recall is more than warranted.

26 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 04/03/2018

Component malfunctioned - driver sun visor comes down randomly & always over bumps. 2013 Altima is available for inspection. Risk factor - visor came down randomly while I was driving in rush hour beltway traffic and hit me in the nose, blurred my vision and put me and my passenger at severe safety risk. Problem confirmed by independent service center no other inspections no warnings. First started in 2018 but has gotten progressively worse to the point of almost causing accidents due to hindering my vision while driving and/or hitting me in the face.

27 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2017

Tl-the contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that while driving various speeds at night, the low beam headlights were extremely dim and the contact could not see the road ahead. A dealer was not made aware of the issue. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The failure mileage was 72,000. Ad.

28 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Low beams don't work properly even after replacing bulbs. This issue started around late 2017.

29 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 05/10/2017

The contact owns a 2013 Nissan Altima. The contact stated that the air conditioning unit failed to dispense cool air. There were no warning indicators illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the air compressor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact mentioned that the air compressor was previously replaced three times, but the failure recurred. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was given the option to go to another dealer to ensure that the failure be resolved. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

30 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 01/01/2017

Lights on low beam are hazardous because they don't provide enough light to see at night while driving. I have to use high beams to see at night while driving. It apparently is a defect on 2013 Nissan Altimas and it must be fixed before something bad happens!.

31 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2016

I have a 2013 Nissan Altima and the sunroof exploded! as I was parking at a local grocery store I heard a loud boom. It sounded like a gunshot / or an impact to my car. I stayed in the vehicle thinking someone shot at me. No one in the parking lot seemed to have heard anything. I get out of the car and at first didn't notice. I only looked at the tires and body to see what hit it. I get back in the car and hear cracking. I open the shade and bits of glass fell. I was like wow. How did this happen. There is no impact spot nor crater. Nothing to show if it was shattered by a rock or anything. I looked all around the ground. I kind of thought maybe a bird fell. But nothing. Robbins Nissan did nothing to help. All they said was after other complaints and investigations they concluded that the sunroof o my shatters on impact. Well how can this be if I was in a parking lot. Also the temperature that day didn't get above 90 degrees. It was not a really hot day here in houston. I'm not sure what to do. It's too expensive to replace. I had to drive home and when I did the center piece flew out :( I have it taped up! it's been 3 months. I just don't believe I should pay for a repair that was a manufacturing defect.

32 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 08/01/2016

Low beam lights get extremely dim, my turn signal lights are brighter than the headlights!!!!!!!!! this creates a safety issue driving at night. As an uber driver, I can spot my generation Altima from far away just cause it always has the dimmest lights unless the Altima has hid.

33 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2016

We noticed that our car¿s black dashboard was becoming sticky and shiny during the summer. This has developed into a serious safety issue because it affects my visibility when I¿m driving. The melting dashboard creates a strong glare or reflection on the windshield which impedes my ability to see the road and my surrounds. I notified my local dealership and they refused to help me with this problem. I called Nissan consumer affairs which also denied my request to solve this issue. It appears that the dashboard material that is used was not properly tested for higher temperatures or that this is simply a defective part. The residue on the surface of the dashboard could also be a health hazard as the dashboard is clearly degrading and may be emitting fumes within the cabin. I also suspect that left untreated, this melting dashboard has the potential to impact the deployment of airbags within the vehicle. I expect that Nissan addresses these concerns and offers a solution to this manufacturing defect before it causes an accident.

34 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2015

I bought a Nissan Altima new in 2013 and my dash has become extremely sticky and shiny causing a bad visibility glare in my windshield when I drive. I contacted Nissan but they refused help even with a purchase of an extended warranty.

35 Wiper problem

Failure Date: 07/15/2015

2 years into owning a Nissan Altima sv the low beam headlights suddenly went dim. The car was returned to the Nissan dealer, no less than 5 times, with no solutions. My husband has changed the bulbs multiple times, with no improvement. We are forced to drive the car with highbeams on for visibility. Visibility is less than 20 ft at night, worse with rain or fog. This is a common issue with 2013-2015. Nissan needs to correct his problem.
