2 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 11/25/2020

On Friday, November 27th as my wife came home from work, she called me to report that the car was behaving strangely, shuddering and losing power. We have never had any drivability issues with this car since we bought it, nor any mechanical problems of any kind. She managed to get home and when I took a look at it the check engine light was on and we decided to tow it to the dealership on Saturday morning in order to get the issue diagnosed. From what was explained to us at the Nissan dealer today, Tuesday, December 1st, we were told that under Nissan's policies, any car that has a "branded" title causes the new car's limited warranty to become null and void. We bought this car used on February 7, 2017 when it had 2,356 miles. The vehicle today has less than 35,000 miles since new. The issue is the cvt transmission has failed, which is widely known by Nissan to be in an issue in several model vehicles including the Altima for at least six years that I am aware of. We are in no position to spend over $3500 plus diagnostic costs to repair this vehicle, and having the uncertainty that this issue could re-appear again at any time in the future and we will again be forced to spend another undetermined amount similar or higher than the current estimated costs. Additionally, if and when this transmission is replaced, we fall back into the situation that the transmission replacement will have an unknown limitation on the warranty of the repair. Through class action remedies Nissan has extended the factory warranty to cover these repairs to customers who are outside of the regular warranty period (essentially the same as not having a factory warranty), extending it to as much as 120,000 miles in some cases, and even transferrable to new owners. We contacted and opened a case at Nissan, but they said no. No more Nissan vehicles for me!.

3 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 07/20/2020

Transmission failed!.

4 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 02/07/2020

Tl-the contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima s. The contact stated that while driving at 35 mph, the vehicle gear shifted to 1st without warning. The contact managed to veer to the shoulder of the road turned the vehicle off and waited for about 5 min to see if the vehicle would resume back to normal when on, however, the vehicle failed to resume back to normal. Say insurance was contacted an towed the vehicle to an independent mechanic where a diagnosed test was performed and determined that the transmission failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle then was towed to the 2nd indepdednednt mechanic who diagnosed for the 2nd time and determined that the transmission needed to be replaced. The vehicle has not been repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 103,000. Ck.

5 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

2016 Nissan Altima 2. 5sr cvt transmission failure at 26k miles. While in motion going freeway speeds, vehicle suddenly loses power when attempting to maintain cruising speed and rpms fluctuated intensely up and down. Felt very unsafe while trying to pull over to the shoulder and feared other vehicles could have struck me while having no control over vehicle speed. Brought vehicle into Nissan dealership and confirmed it is an issue with cvt transmission requiring $4k cvt transmission repair, luckily covered under 5 year, 60k mile warranty. This issue seems common with other owners of the cvt transmission and should have its powertrain cvt transmission warranty extended on newer models to 10 years, 120,000 miles just like the 2003-2010 year models with the cvt have received.

6 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 03/23/2019

At 61,000 miles (just 1000 miles after the warranty expired), the cvt transmission failed while vehicle was in motion. It started as a knocking that occurred while shifting gears. The next day, the engine violently fluctuated between gears while going ~60 mph on the highway. It then remained in the high gear after the vehicle came to a stop at a red light.

7 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 01/04/2019

2016 Altima, barely 3 years old, 71,000 miles. About a week ago, the car began to jerk and shudder and rpm's jump up and down when I accelerate from a stop. Before the day was over, it was happening while I was driving (any where from 0-60+mph). Then check engine light came on. When I hit the gas, it may jerk/lurch forward or may not go anywhere. I would have to let off the gas and try again. Some times it would correct itself, other times not and rpm's would stay high-- 3-5. Felt like it didn't want to "change gears" (its a cvt so only one "gear") while jerking and accelerating/decelerating. Very distracting and concerning to say the least. Took it to the dealership today to have the diagnostics ran. Was contacted and told it was throwing 2 codes - sub assembly failure and pressure fluid sensor failure. These are transmission codes. Was told I needed a new transmission, $4200 out the door. . . . . In what world is it "normal" for a fairly new car with no prior issues to have a complete transmission failure?? the dealer agreed there is nothing we could've done to prevent this. I have contacted Nissan consumer affairs and filed a complaint, requesting goodwill assistance with the repair costs. I was told someone would get back to me by close of business tomorrow. This is obviously a defective transmission. Reading these comments, it appears that the replacement transmissions do not perform much better. I will be getting out of this car ASAP.

8 Transmission Failure problem

Failure Date: 08/22/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2016 Nissan Altima. While driving 35 mph, the vehicle jerked without warning. The vehicle was taken to kraft Nissan (3277 mahan dr, tallahassee, FL), but was not diagnosed due to the diagnostic fee. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the transmission failed. The vehicle was returned to the dealer where they recommended that the continuously variable transmission sub assembly and valve be replaced. The manufacturer was notified. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000. The VIN was not provided.
