I have a 2008 Nissan Altima Hybrid and am having problems with the brakes. I was driving the car when I stepped on the brakes to stop for a signal. The pedal went down without slowing the car until it was near the bottom of its travel at which time the car came to an abrupt halt, the abs, vdc and brake warning light came on. I continued home without trouble until I was coming into the garage at which time the same thing happened. I have checked and found others who have had the same problem. Fortunately I was traveling at a low speed with no traffic.

Hi, I recently discovered that the brake lights are intermittently malfunctioning because of an unreliable brake lights switch. I became aware of the issue because the push button ignition was intermittently failing. After a little bit of research I found out that it is a known issue for Nissan altima 2007-2008 owners, but was never addressed by Nissan. I have a three month old baby that could have been severely injured in a rear end collision. Please make sure this issue gets addressed before any accident occurs. Thank you so much!.
Driving approx 25 mph on frontage road, abs and brake light went on as well as continuous alarm. Stepped on brakes with no brake response, had to use e-brake to stop. No prior warning.

The bake light switch system is failing on the Nissan altima. Hybrids and 2. 5s the result is that you drive the car without knowing that the brake lights are not working. This is a common problem because issued ntb10-139 requiring replacment of swtich and harness sub assembly.
On a sunny cold afternoon in avon CT, doing 35 mph, the abs and brake lights suddenly came on my dash of 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid with 10897 miles. An audible continuous alarm was on in the car. The brakes were totally inoperable. It was a total catastrophic failure. The car was towed to the nearest dealer and Nissan claims it was a faulty abs actuator that needs replacement.
When depressed the brake lights did not come on. This is caused difficulty for car to start. Brake light switch setting was adjusted over the next two years, but finally in March of 2011 I noticed it again while following the car home one night that the brake lights were not coming on. It turns out that Nissan had an ntb10-139 on this problem calling for complete replacement of the brake switch assembly and harness. This loss of brake lights without knowledge of the driver is safety hazard. Nissan has been aware of the problem, but there has been no recall. I had to pay $430 to have the repair done on April 1, 2011. Others have reported the same problem on the greenhybrid. Com website.
