1 Electrical System problem of the 2012 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/01/2026

Problem # 1- is 3 out of 4 door lock actuators all of a sudden stopped working at the exact same time, except the driver door. This is a huge safety issue and causes the door to remain locked. This causes someone getting locked inside the vehicle or locked outside. (google) all the review's as this is a common thing people are reporting. Problem #2- my daughter said she almost passed out because he gas tank started to leak because the hose connector is plastic and integrated into the gas tank. The only way to fix this is replace the gas tank at $600+. (google) this is a common problem that people are reporting. My vehicle only has 40k miles on it and its already a fire hazard because fuel is leaking from a plastic cheap fitting. This is the fitting that the fill hose connects to the gas tank. No warning signs until gas fumes filled the cab. This is a fire hazard and also can cause the driver to pass out because of the fumes in the vehicle. No inspections just phone calls to the service department. They want to charge me $175 to just tell me what is broken that I already know. So I called local dealership and they confirmed the symptoms are likely due to broken actuators, and plastic gas fittings.

2 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/05/2023

Problem is the anti theft module located on the steering column has malfunctioned for my wife’s 2010 Nissan Cube keyless ignition. Vehicle would not restart for my wife after sitting for 5 hours, luckily she was not way off somewhere. From what I’ve seen Nissan did a recall of a similar defective module on other models but did not include the Cube. Nissan doesn’t even have the parts readily available for repair. Vehicle has been sitting at a repair shop for over a month now. This should be a safety issue as it could leave people totally stranded in the middle of nowhere with no meaningful way to repair the vehicle. The part number of the module is 487001 fa0c. It is believed that Nissan did not recall the Cube because of the low quantity of vehicles manufactured in relation to the other problem models.

4 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/10/2020

I saw that in phoenix az the safety recall began on September 13,2010 for fuel system, gasoline;storage. Reported an saftey complaint on July 16th, 2020 11:45 pm phoenix az. Electirocal stability control started on June 10th 2020 didn't think much of it car cut off at an red light I turned my hazard lights on put the car in park and started the car up again. This happened again on July 15th 2020 took it in to the dealer( auto action 1827 w broadway rd) I pay a car note with told them what happened they said they needed to run it to see what was going on and would not present and spare car for the inconvenience or had any car fax on hand. July 16th 2020 I noticed that oil was indeed leaking from the bottom of the car.

5 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/26/2020

My 2009 Nissan Cube had a recall for the manufacturing defects associated with the electrical steering column lock (escl). It went out in January 2020 and the Nissan dealer wants 832. 00 to repair what is a Nissan manufacturing defect. Investigating this it was found that in January 2012, just before the car was purchased from the Nissan dealer, the escl recall was fixed at the murfreesboro dealership. As I wasnt the owner at the time I do not have paperwork to show this, only the word from the dealer. The escl is obviously still a problem but the dealership said since it was fixed once that met the recall criteria and I have to pay for the manufacturers defective escl. The red light with the key came on when it was parked at a store and wouldn't move so it was towed to the Nissan dealer. They have stated the part is 579. 93 and the labor will be 312. 50. Nissan consumer hotline was contacted and they said that it was repaired but wouldn't give me a date/place so I called the dealership I bought it from to get this information. They are the ones who stated it was done in January 2012 when it was in their possession to sell on the lot. Since it is a documented manufacturers warranty and the dealership supposedly did the work while the car was for sale on their lot (meaning we have to trust they actually did the expensive repair), when the problem still exists why is it not being covered? this is a well documented problem throughout the internet of Nissan 2009 Cube owners who to this day are having problems with the escl and the extremely expensive repair bills that go with it.

9 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 12/10/2018

The steering lock has failed, and the start button no longer works on the vehicle because the "plunger" has failed within the steering electrical box.

10 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 05/17/2018

Since Nov of 2014 I have dealt with persistent start-up issue with my 2011 Nissan Cube. The vehicle simply can fail to start at any time and without warning. It has push button ignition. The dealership I purchased the vehicle from jackie cooper & Nissan north America. They have been unable and unwilling to solve the issues despite repeated visits to their service department. They are attempting to ignore their obligation to fix my vehicle as stipulated by their warranty.

11 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 10/01/2017

Every so often the ac or the fan doesn't work after starting the car, sometimes for days at time. Then it will just start working randomly usually while we are driving. Also the driver seat belt will unclick randomly while driving sometimes.

12 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 10/05/2016

The electronic steering control lock malfunctioned causing me to be unable to start my vehicle. The vehicle was stationary in my driveway at the time. There were no movements or sounds coming from the car when I tried to start it. Only the security indicator light and the key light were on in the dash. No response from the car when we attempted to jumpstart it. This essentially left me completely stranded and with living out in the country was very difficult and expensive to get the vehicle towed into the Nissan dealership. I did research and found that lots of other 2009 Cube owners have had this problem and just like me many have previously had theirs "fixed" only to have the part malfunction again and have to pay for it out of pocket. This is no cheap fix and I had no choice but to spend money I can't afford to spend in order to have a working vehicle. This issue needs to be addressed and taken care of by Nissan as it could lead to some really dangerous situations. I am almost always out camping in relatively unpopulated wilderness areas, typically without cell service and if this had happened then I have no idea what I would have done. I really hope they step up to the plate and issue a recall/refund for the problem just like they did for the altima issues.

13 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/14/2016

Ignition lock has failed. Seems to be a common and very expensive problem.

14 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/10/2016

On two separate occasions, within a 7 day period, after a short drive in cold weather, and then parked for 1/2 hour period, the ignition would not respond (I. E. Start) when key would be turned to start position. The car had to be towed to service facility, where no common problem could be found, and ignition operated as expected. This is the same situation as reported on NHTSA reference #10040035, Nissan TSB #ntb-11-057 for this make, model, year, with the sole exception this car has a intelligent key ignition, as opposed to push button ignition for the cars covered under the Nissan TSB. In call to Nissan concerning the problem, the local dealership acknowledged the TSB, but stated that it only concerned models with the push button start.

15 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 11/27/2015

Electronic steering column lock (escl) was malfunctioning, as diagnosed by a Nissan dealer. The car was parked on the side of the road, and it would not start, no engine, or into acc mode because the escl did not sense the brake pedal being pressed or the wheel in locked position. Pushing the brake pedal too start the car did nothing, and engine start button did not work but a solid amber key icon on the dash board would come up and disappear. The car had to be towed to the dealership. Did some research, and it turns out that Nissan had problems w 2009 same escl part = steering lock part# on my unit - we have photos -487001fa0b manufacture date 09-30-09 the same as the only Cube model year recalled. - from 2009-2010 including Cube 2009 and altima/maxima 2010 which seemed to share the same escl part used my Cube 2010 which is not part of the recall. Dealer wants over 800. 00 too fix a know defect. There are many resources online (facebook, youtube, web forums) where people driving models other than altima and maxima experience the exact same problem, yet altima and maxima owners get warranty extensions and everyone else gets saddled with a $800 repair bill or more. Nissan should be held accountable for every model affected by this problem, not just two models and just one model year when the 2010's have the same issue and part . Our Cube has 47,000 miles -.

16 Electrical System problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

18 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 08/05/2015

Car failed in a remote area would not restart after stopping, towed to local Nissan dealership and they stated that it was the electronic steering control lock complete failure and stops vehicle from starting. Wife suffered from heat exposure directly related to situation, this part was recalled and I had the recall repaired. If a basic search on this you will find that this is a common and expensive problem that Nissan ended up discontinuing this part on later cars. But this failure is a serious problem.

19 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/30/2015

Performance recall p1225. Car continues to face same recall problem.

20 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/05/2015

The steering wheel lock went out on the coldest day of the year, there is a recall on the 09 Cube and 10 maximas and altimas, and many many complaints of this happening on the 10 Cube, however Nissan will not cover the faulty part they have in so many of these cars in this range of years including this one. When this part goes out you cannot start the vehicle leaving you stranded and an tow bill plus $870 to fix a part Nissan already knows is faulty.

21 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 12/26/2014

Electronic steering column lock (escl) was malfunctioning, as diagnosed by a Nissan dealer. The car was parked in a parking garage, and it would not start, no engine, or into acc mode because the escl did not sense the brake pedal being pressed or the wheel in an unlocked position. The brake pedal was stiff, and engine start button did not work. A solid amber key icon on the dash board would come up and disappear. The car had to be towed to the dealership. Did some research, and it turns out that Nissan had problems w several escl parts revised over time in various models from 2009-2010 including Cube 2009 and altima/maxima 2010 which seemed to share the same escl part used in Cube 2010. Waiting to hear from the dealer if Nissan covers for this issue.

22 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/19/2014

Went to start car would not do anything. Ignition. Like it lost key reading. But steering wheel lock was causing it not to start.

23 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/06/2014

The electronic steering wheel lock failed car wont start . The part was replaced in July 2011 on a recall the new part failed in June 2014 Nissan would not replace a 2ed time under recall, with much begging they paid for part I paid for labor. This left my wife stranded in a less than ideal spot Nissan extended the warranty on this same part on 2009 Nissan altima but not on Cube,.

24 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 04/30/2014

The rear door no longer unlocks. It was working fine and now the actuator no longer works making the rear door unusable, there is no way to manually unlock the door and the emergency unlock does not work either.

25 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/25/2014

There is a known issue with the Nissan electronic steering column lock used on cars manufactured in model years 2009-2010. The lock engages and makes cars with push-button ignitions impossible to start. There is a warranty extension for the 2009-2010 altima and maxima, but no other models are covered, even though other models use the same part and experience the same problem. Nissan should be responsible for the repair of this part because it is caused by abuse or misuse, but simply mechanical/electrical failure. There are many resources online (facebook, youtube, web forums) where people driving models other than altima and maxima experience the exact same problem, yet altima and maxima owners get warranty extensions and everyone else gets saddled with a $1000 repair bill. Nissan should be held accountable for every model affected by this problem, not just two models.

26 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/04/2014

Blinking light on dash, air bag warning light. Air bag control unit malfunction, must be replaced and also possibly the air bag on the steering wheel. This should be covered under the warranty.

27 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/17/2014

Electronic steering column lock (escl) failed, the car was totally immobilized, was not responding to keyless start, steering wheel was locked. This happened when the car was parked. The problem with escl lock is known to Nissan, it issued a recall and extended warranty for the part for other car models. I'm worrying whether this can happen while car is moving.

28 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

This is the second time in 3mths that my Nissan Cube has locked and not started! car won't recognize the key.

29 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 01/18/2014

My 2010 has done this to me twice now!!! I go to get in and start it up. Nothing happens. Replaced with brand new battery and nothing happened. Had to have it towed to the dealer for inspection. Turns out the steering lock assembly malfunctioned. Nissan issued a similar recall for the same exact issue on all 2009 models as well as other models with same device. But not 2010 models and would not honor the recall. It is now costing me $700 to repair a faulty lock assembly that they know has malfunctioned in other models!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

30 Electrical System problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I reported this when the car was still under warranty. All the door lock actuators will not work, would not open would not lock. Sometimes it would be one or two doors and sometimes it would be all of them. Very unsafe, someone can get in the car at any time, you could be thrown out in a accident. And from what I read online this has been a problem that's been going a long time. It reeds to be on a recall list.

31 Electrical System problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/10/2010

I bought my Nissan Cube in 2010 (used with about 23,000 miles). I have been having trouble with the air condition making a fan noise, slowing down, going faster then cutting off. The dealer said it was normal bor the a/c to do that, but now I believe it is really going to die out. I have also been having trouble with my Cube where you press on the gas and the car is going anywhere, then in a couple of seconds the tires kind of stutter along and I'm on my way. This happens alot. I bought new tires because I thought that this was what was wrong with it, but it still does it. I also have that stupid tire light coming on a lot and then my new tires are deflating for no reason. Took it back to the tire shop where the checked all the pressures in my tires, 1 was very low and turned off light on my dash. This vehicle is too wide, scares the heck out of me when I have to turn left or right only because the windshield is too wide and you have to scoot way up or way back to make sure when you turn that you can see where you are going. You no matter how many times I told the guy at Nissan what was wrong, they could never find anything wrong with the vehicle. Now I have had it three years and all the problems are worse. I think this car was jinx when I brought, and I wasn't even the vehicle I wanted to buy, but the salesperson and financial person kept pushing for me to get this vehicle, and as a single mom and a person that needed a vehicle very badly, I took the bait and bought the car. I'm looking for something better now and I hope I don't get ripped off again.
