The back door latch/lock doesn't work. It permanently locked and can't be unlocked with key or electronic key fob. The vehicle was parked and locked in my apartment designated space. When I tried to open the trunk, it wouldn't unlock. My research on the Cube owner's blog indicated several others had the same problem. They had estimates from dealers of several hundred dollars to repair the lock. Nissan dealers are aware of the problem. It requires replacing the entire locking mechanism. There are a few instructional videos on line of how to repair the lock. It requires removing back door inside of vehicle.
The car will stop running and die. It has been worked on and the fuse box and brake lamp light switch has been replaced twice. When it dies it smell like burning electrical wiring and smoke comes out from under the hood. I have almost been killed half a dozen times. I can't drive the car safely.
The antitheft lock malfunctioned. Now the car wont start.
Rear hatch door lock does not unlock the door. The lock has worked and then it quits working. In an emergency a person would not be able to exit through the hatch door. According to the internet this is a frequent occurrence in the early models.
My vehicle would not start. I had to have it towed to my mechanic where his computer diagnostic found the problem to be the steering module that starts the vehicle. I had to have it replaced at my cost of $971. 00. My mechanic informed me that this same problem was prevalent in the year prior to mine and that they were being repaired by the manufacturer. I contacted the manufacturer and was told there was no campaign for my particular VIN number. I don't understand why the year prior to mine is covered but mine is not. I am the original owner of the vehicle and I have had this vehicle serviced as required through the dealership originally, then continued by my mechanic. I would like to file a complaint against this manufacturer to get reimbursed for this defect.

On several occassions, while driving on the interstate, there will be no warning light on the dash---you drop in speed even if you have the gas pedal to the floor. This will also occur around town and will happen when you try to start moving from a red light or enter the flow of traffic from a side street. It is extremely scary and dangerous to be doing 70mph on the interstate with traffic behind you and your car suddenly loses speed as if you hit the brakes. The problem occured to this extreme with only 30,000 miles on the odometer. The dealership said they had not heard of this and could not diagnose the issue. Now at 125,000. . . Nissan corporate told me today that it was a fail safe mode to prevent damage to the vehicle. They said there may not be an issue with the car, it will activate to prevent damage. How is it safe to be traveling at 70 mph and suddenly without warning you are lucky to be doing 20mph? when the fail safe mode has kicked in. . . . No issue has been found with my vehicle. I feel that Nissan needs to warn consumers that at any time you could lose power and be ready to be rear ended without any warnings to you or the traffic behind you.
After a few years or few thousand miles, the cvt transmission may partially fail and it may not be indicated properly in the dashboard. This results in vehicle not getting enough power to drive. So, vehicle may stall in the roads or highways causing safety issues to both vehicle occupants and others in the road/highways. Stopping and restarting may not solve the issue. It could move the vehicle a bit farther but it may be at a very slower speed than the posted limits. The vehicle may produce a unique sound at times. The indication "service engine soon" comes a few days later and it is possible that the user of the car may not fully realize the condition.
While driving down the road I notice a burning smell and loud muffler/exhaust noise. When I pulled over to look under the rear of the car to inspect the muffler I saw a large whole in the rear bumper and the muffler had loosened. The muffler pointed up so that it was directly aimed at the inside of the rear bumper. This caused it to ignite and burn a hole in the rear bumper. I called Nissan corporate to file a claim and they informed me I had to pay for the repairs because they had not issued a recall for this issue. The local dealer said this is a common issue with this vehicle, and is now unsafe to drive because it could cause a larger fire and ignite the floorboard or the muffler could fall off while driving. The service manager at the dealer told me they would replace the muffler and necessary parts at my own cost or weld it back, but it would be the same parts that are known to easily defect in this manner. I have looked on the internet and found other people who have had this issue with Cube's and other Nissan's around the same years of production. Some issues appeared as early as 12,000 miles and the manufacturer covered the cost under warrant, but mine won'the since it has 70,000 miles. I have no undercarriage damage so they believe it was rusted out because of salts on the road to treat ice and snow in my region.

Water leaks into rear end of my car. It has been repaired twice and continues to leak hard rain, car washing, snow, ice, case leaking. Results are dampness, mold, odor. Contacted Nissan corp. Once I found other owners complaining about same problem with same vehicle. I own two of these same cars and only one has this problem.
2011 Cube, rear door will not open. No door handle in side of vehicle, no way to open. This is a real hazard. I have seen a lot of complaints, from other Cube owners with the same problem.
Nissan Cube 2009 -transmission failure; no warning lights just started making a noise and slowing down would not change gears.
Muffler weld separated (no rust or external damage) at the mid pipe causing muffler to tilt and start to melt the rear bumper cover mounts and bumper cover. Muffler then separated completely causing loud noise and possible exhaust gas to enter cabin. Contacted Nissan and was told there was no issue and Nissan would not do anything to correct or help with cost.
Exhaust system from the resonator back needs full replacement as corrosion has eaten away muffler mounting to the point it is not longer connected. Exhaust is not making it out of the rear of the car, indicating its entering the cabin, causing a danger to occupants.

I bought a 2009 Nissan Cube brand new in June 2010 that has been nothing but problems. To date the vehicle has had the following problems: 1. Steering lock mechanism has failed twice 2. Rotors had to be resurfaced 3 months after purchase 3. Throttle chamber failed and had to be replaced 4. Fan doesn’t work during winter months rendering the heater useless 5. Fuel filler tube replaced (recall) 6. The exhaust has rotted and the result is it separating/breaking off from the muffler. Hummel Nissan in des moines wants $460 to repair the problem with the muffler. Tom at the dealer said he’s seen this problem with almost every vehicle minus the frontier. He said the way the exhaust is designed causes moisture to build up and rot the system out, and that I need to drive it more. I told him I don’t believe a vehicle with less than 50,000 miles should have to have the exhaust replaced, especially after having vehicles with 180,000 miles on them with no such trouble (not Nissan). He then told me to take it to a local shop because it would be cheaper to fix. Nissan customer care on facebook asked for my VIN number so they “could look into the issue,” and then replied back saying to work with the local dealer (hummel Nissan). All in all they’ve been completely useless and unhelpful. Hummel Nissan and Nissan could care less about making sure their customers are happy/safe and continue to buy their vehicles.
Muffler pipe detached into 2 pieces on welded part on the flange.
For the 2nd time in a month suddenly the vdc light (vehicle dynamic control) was on followed by the service engine soon. The first time was around 8000 miles, the 2nd time was 9500 miles (11 months after it was purchased new). The dealer (walser Nissan in burnsville, mn) could not find the problem. The symptom was the same, the engine lost power, couldn't go beyond 30 mph, as if it went into limp-home model. When I turned the engine off, locked it and came back in a few minutes later, it reset itself. The engine ran fine, it was as if there was computer or sensor glitch. But the service engine soon light remained on until the dealer reset it. This can be a safety issue, what if I were driving in a busy highway and the engine suddenly slowed down 30 mph ?.

Muffler connecting flange and pipe rusted through. Muffler dragging ground. Nissan offered no explanation or assistance.
The rear door on the 2009 nissab Cube does not open. I filed a report with Nissan who advised me to take it to a dealer for inspection, and then file a claim, as the vehicle was out of warranty. The dealer, grubbs Nissan inspected the vehicle on April-11-2014, and found a defective latching mechanism which needs repair at a total cost of $392. They also opined that this was a safety issue. Nissan however refused to pay for the repairs, saying the vehicle was out of warranty. They did not accept this was a safety issue, as opined by the dealer. They also do not accept several similar complaints on this Nissan model that appear on publicly available search engines.
I purchased a 2009 Nissan Cube krom in November of 2013. Upon receipt, I noticed that one of the tires kept going low on air. So the shop inflated the tire and I thought it was resolved. 2 weeks later, the same tire was low on air. I put air in it again and took it to the dealer to have the pressure sensor looked into and see it that was an issue. They assured me that wasn't the issue. For the next 3 months, I was putting air in the tire on a weekly, and nearly daily basis. I eventually didn't drive it except for 400 miles total in that time as I felt it was unsafe and also took it back to the dealer on 2 other occasions. Each time, I specifically stated to look over the pressure sensor. Each time, they told me there was nothing wrong. Well, in March 2014, I took the car to my own mechanic. When he ran tests, he found that the pressure sensor was faulty and defected and causing a leak through the stem. Upon getting that information, I took the car back to the dealer and finally got them to agree to repair the sensor. Fast forward to may 2014, I now have 2 other sensors that are doing the exact same thing due to the exact same problem. I did a quick search online and found thousands of complaints from other drivers that have the exact same issues I am having. This needs to be addressed ASAP as this is causing an extremely unsafe driving condition and Nissan needs to make the repairs free of charge to customers.
Monday, July 8, 2013 I as driving home 95n interstate from north carolina with the a/c and cruise control on. The car immediately start slowing down at the of speed 65 mph. I immediately moved to the right lane for exit. The car shut down and would not start. I was in fredericksburg, va heading to my home in new carrollton, MD. I had to call aaa to tow me (home) to my dealership of services passport Nissan in marlow heights. I have documentation for this call. The Nissan service department stated they could not find anything wrong with the car after keeping it for day (have receipts for rental car). I explained in detail with great frustration, fear and concern what happen. I was alone this happen at night (dark on the highway). It happen again within a week of that call for service (three separate incidents) department I needed to get the car them immediately when it happen. If the car shutdown and must be towed that is impossible to get there when it occur. I called Nissan regional office and marlow heights managers to get "no help or satisfaction". At the time of this shutdown my car was still under Nissan's warranty. I am still riding with no a/c today. It is scary to ride a car that cost me thousands of dollars with no a/c and not knowing what the problem is. Please help and provide me some guidance. I want my car repaired. Thank you for your assistance and advice. Riding with no a/c still one year later.
On April 26, 2013 while leaving the grocery store with mom & newborn my vehicle would not start. I immediately called cerritos Nissan & asked what the warranty mileage was on there vehicles which they informed me 36k. I got my vehicle to start after several tries, and took my vehicle to Nissan and after 3 hours I was told the battery was very low & they would only be able to charge my battery. (based on Nissan warranty guidelines) my vehicle left me again that weekend on Sunday 4/28 aaa was called to jump start my vehicle. I called Nissan consumer affairs & spoke to a representative who offered me $100. 00 reimbursement if I purchased & installed my own battery. I asked why Nissan was not replacing the battery at the dealership, rep explained they are not able to obligate dealerships to make such request, my case was then escalated to the regional consumer affairs specialist who was difficult to get a hold of. After 2 weeks the regional specialist was in touch with me & was no help. I explained to the specialist the original battery with the vehicle was defective and why did I continue to have these issues with my vehicle. He was not able to explain to me why. I told the specialist I was going to be purchasing my own battery & faxing my information so I could be reimbursed as promised from previous rep. The specialist informed me that offer was no longer available due to my case being escalated to him. At this point my problem has not been resolved. Nissan has yet to address my concerns & explain why I keep having these problems. Its very troublesome that I am experiencing these problems with a new vehicle which was purchased to transport my self & newborn, worrying my car can leave us stranded at any time, due to Nissan negligence.
Horn is not loud enough to warn other drivers of presence. It is barely audible. Resulted in damage to my vehicle that may have been avoided with a louder horn.
