1 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/24/2023

On March 24, 2023 Friday, I was picking my child up when I noticed a loss of power and acceleration at the gas pedal. This was then followed by a loud, whining sound while in traffic. Luckily, we were not hit when the car lost power. I am mechanically inclined, and was able to deduct that the car went into limp mode. After further research, it is determined that the cvt transmission failed. This could have caused serious injuries to myself, my child, or whoever it may have impacted our vehicle, because of how it lost acceleration while in transit. Vehicle currently has 141,554 miles and it is a 2011 Nissan Cube why does the recall affect 2009, 2010, it skips 2011 and then proceeds to carry-on from 2012 on up? what sense does this make , since it’s the same transmission in all of these vehicles? I am contacting Nissan USA to file a complaint, I have also confirmed this with an obd two scanner. Today’s date is March 27, 2023.

3 Power Train problem of the 2012 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/28/2019

I own a 2012 Nissan Cube with 80,000 miles on it. My teenager was driving the car when it stalled out on her and would not accelerate. It eventually caught enough to accelerate and the service engine light came on. Took it in to the dealership and the transmission needs to be replaced. It is an internal failure of several sensors on the cvt transmission. I have read online at multiple sites that this is a largely occurring incident with Nissan and these models. A transmission should not fail at 80,000 miles! it is a dangerous occurrence that can cause serious injury to the driver if on an interstate or otherwise busy highway (we live in a metropolitan city). This needs to be investigated, as Nissan is not offering any warnings, recalls or assistance to the problem.

4 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 04/28/2019

Under 59,000 miles on my vehicle. The dealership told me my cvt needs to be replaced for $3,400. Bummer.

5 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 04/19/2019

My car stalled out of no where while driving to work. Transmission died at 120,000 miles.

6 Power Train problem of the 2012 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 04/18/2019

When driving on the interstate during warm weather, you will go to acceralate to only be met with the lose of power and your speed will drop from 70 to 20 without warning. The dash does not light a warning and you must hit your hazard flashers quickly and hope the cars behind you brake in time. You then must move to the shoulder of the road with the vehicle "sputtering" to do 20 mph on a roadway with 60 plus mph traffic. I have spoken to Nissan corp. , and two dealership concerning this issue with all stating they did not know the cause. After much research and from dealing with this issue since 10,000 miles, I feel that Nissan is aware of the issues and have not properly made the necessary steps to correct the issue. The issue is the transmission cooler is not working properly. When the temperature is below 65 degrees, I do not have any issues driving the same routes and at the same speeds. When the temperatures outside are in the upper 70's I can drive 270 miles before the issue occurs. With temperatures in the low 80's, it will occur within 100 miles. I will no longer travel over 50 miles when temperatures reach the 90's. I had the transmission fluid changed at 30 and 60, and 90 thousand miles. The dealership then told me at 120,000 that it was not due till 150,000 miles per the owner's manual. I am now at 140,000 and cannot drive over 50 miles if the weather is too hot.

7 Power Train problem of the 2014 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/22/2019

After coming to a stop (or near stop) from highway speeds, my 2014 Nissan Cube does not respond to depressing the accelerator. I would press the gas to the floor and it barely moved. It was extremely slow, like the engine would not go above idle. After 5-20 seconds it would finally accelerate. A couple of times I was in heavy traffic on a limited access rural highway. The light ahead had turned red and I decelerated to an almost stop before the light changed to green. Of course, I immediately let off the brake pedal and pressed the accelerator. The car didn't respond and the traffic from behind was closing at near highway speed. Fortunately, I was able to swerve off of the road onto the shoulder as the overtaking traffic barrelled past me. One particularly scary time I was in the left lane with guard rail on the left as we were approaching a bridge; the no response event repeated itself, but I was unable to exit the roadway to the left. I kept the pedal down and prayed no one would hit me. Karma was watching over me as the cars coming from behind realized just in time that I was barely moving and swerved to miss me. A couple of the cars narrowly missed hitting me; there was a lot of squealing tires and blaring horns. Luckily for me, I was wearing dark-colored underwear. . It appears to happen more often as the car accumulates mileage. I never know when this will happen, so now I try to be in the right lane for upcoming stops, but sometimes you are caught off guard for a traffic light change. This is very scary. Car should be recalled.

8 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/07/2019

Car does not accelerate. Will not move. Car was running fine I came to a stop, and car would not go. This happened a few times. Now the car will not move at all. Nissan says it needs a new transmission. Apparently it is the fault of their cvt. I have seen many many people on line with this issue. I have contacted Nissan and they refuse to help.

9 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 11/07/2018

Only a 103k an engine began to make a whining sound and then just slipping. Drove it this way for two weeks and then it wouldn't start remove at all. Had to sink in $3,000 for a used transmission. A new one would have been over $4,000! even my extended warranty would not pay for it.

10 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 10/16/2018

Tl the contact owns a 2009 Nissan Cube. While making a left turn, the vehicle started to jerk and failed to accelerate. Also, the check engine warning indicator illuminated. The contact coasted the vehicle over to the side of the road. When the accelerator pedal was depressed, the vehicle was able to drive normally. The vehicle was taken to metro Nissan of montclair (located at 9440 autoplex st, montclair, CA 91763), but was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 132,000.

11 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 09/17/2018

Takata recall: car was fine when I parked it when I got up the next morning, I crank it put it in reverse and the car would not move. Towed the car to the dealer and they are saying it's the clutch in the transmission. I can't see how it go out overnight sitting cart, I've own the car 1 year and 1 month just passed the warranty. Carmax maxcare will not cover it says it is a maintenance issue. I have no pictures or documentation at the moment the car is at a Nissan dealer just sitting.

12 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 08/27/2018

Recently my Nissan Cube came up with an error code indicating a step motor malfunction. This is a component of the cvt transmission that tells the transmission how to operate. Without this critical component the vehicle does not behave properly. I have involved in a number of situations where the vehicle will suddenly stop at highway speeds or not accelerate after reducing speed causing an extreme hazard. Nissan is aware of these failing transmissions and did in fact increase the warranty coverage at one point. These are an extreme danger on the road!!!.

13 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/18/2018

Takata recall. My Cube will not go anywhere, I put it in drive push gas and car will not roll. It won't drive in any of gears. Vehical drove my family last nite, we went on a trip, got to destination went to bed , woke up to leave and car will not go anywhere . Started the engine and put car into drive pushed accelerator and car will not roll. We are stuck in yosemite 150 miles from home.

14 Power Train problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/03/2018

After a few years or few thousand miles, the cvt transmission may partially fail and it may not be indicated properly in the dashboard. This results in vehicle not getting enough power to drive. So, vehicle may stall in the roads or highways causing safety issues to both vehicle occupants and others in the road/highways. Stopping and restarting may not solve the issue. It could move the vehicle a bit farther but it may be at a very slower speed than the posted limits. The vehicle may produce a unique sound at times. The indication "service engine soon" comes a few days later and it is possible that the user of the car may not fully realize the condition.

15 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 10/30/2017

The contact owns a 2011 Nissan Cube. The contact stated that the vehicle was not operable. The contact was able to start the vehicle, but it would not move. The failure occurred without warning. An independent mechanic was contacted and diagnosed that the vehicle needed a new cvt. Autocenters Nissan (1825 e edwardsville rd, wood river, IL) stated that the diagnostic test and cvt replacement would be at the contact's expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 113,000.

16 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 12/03/2016

Was driving home with my husband from the grocery store. Pulled onto highway and car stopped accelerating. Pulled over and car would rev up but not go in drive or reverse. Car was towed back home and being traded in. It's 1,000 miles over the extended warranty. They should recall these knowing the cvt is bad.

17 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 07/03/2016

I am the 2nd owner of this car. I purchased this vehicle April of 2016. The only light that has been on has been the tpm light. On July 3rd,2016 , I was driving on the highway with my children when the car suddenly stalled. It completely stopped driving no matter how hard I would push on the gas. When I had to vehicle inspected, it was the transmission that had failed. According to the dealership, there was an extended warrenty on this cvt transmission because of problems it was having. There was no light on or anything to show that there had been an issue with this transmission, it just suddenly stopped working as I was driving. I contacted Nissan directly and they told me there was nothing they can do because it was out of warranty. I feel this is unsafe because people do drive with their children in the vehicle. This could have caused a bad collision on the highway when it suddenly just stopped. In the same incident, the back door suddenly will not open.

18 Power Train problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 06/30/2016

The transmission started whining and next day the car did not move. It stopped moving when I needed to cross the intersection of darrow st and gardiner Ave in silver spring Ave. Exposing my kids and others passers by.

19 Power Train problem of the 2010 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 05/26/2016

The cvt transmissions in the 2009 and 2010 Cubes are known to be defective. I had mine replaced in February of 2015 and in may 2016, 15 months later, it needs to be replaced again. Nissan extended the warranty but did not fix the problem with the transmission. Since I am now over the mileage limit for them replacing it I am stuck paying $4000. 00 for a new transmission that will only be under warranty for 12 months or 12,000 miles. The problem starts with surges in the rpm's after that the car will not go forward after coming to a stop unless you turn the car off then back on. Even after that it will do it every time you come to a complete stop. Very dangerous when trying to go through a busy intersection. I have filed a complaint with the bbb but was told they couldn't help me. I am attaching the files showing my repair and diagnostic. I am also attaching complaints from other Cube owners.

20 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/16/2016

While driving at 65 mph car looses power under acceleratin and then stalls when you get below 10 mph will start back up after sitting for about 5 minutes the car is a 6 speed manuel. No lights came on in the dash this has happened 3 times now.

21 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/23/2015

My 2011 Nissan Cube was being driven to work on the interstate. I pressed on the gas and the car did not move, all of a sudden it lurched forward almost causing me to rear end the vehicle in front of me. I took it to the dealership and I was told I needed a new transmission on a 2011? the car is barely four years old. It is outside of warranty and it is costing me $3700. 00. After researching, I see that they have had problems with these transmissions and have extended warranties up to the 2010 models. It is a definite safety issue and needs to be looked into.

22 Power Train problem of the 2014 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/10/2015

Vehicle would not accelerate yet rpm's would rise.

23 Power Train problem of the 2012 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/16/2015

On February 10th, after the car warmed up for 20 minutes, the car's rpm's would jump by 500 every few seconds. I brought the car in (dealership where I bought it) to have it looked at and showed them a video I had taken of it happening at 60 mph and 70 mph. Since no warning lights were lit up on the dash, they said it was fine. On February 16th, the car behaved as though the overdrive was off and I headed to the dealership. Before reaching the dealership, the car would not accelerate and I was stuck. The car was shut off and after 5 minutes I was able to restart it and continue. They later told me the entire transmission needed to be replaced. . Read more...

24 Power Train problem of the 2011 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 11/13/2014

When attempting to accelerate from a complete stop our Nissan Cube intermittently accelerates very slowly and is not responsive to depressing the gas pedal. The vehicle will then lurch forward as though it is down shifting and takes off. This has been reported and investigated by the dealer 3 - 4 times (first report in July 2012) with the most recent visit (oct 2014) resulting in a replaced transmission. This last week (Nov 2014) my wife and I were almost in an accident when pulling out into oncoming traffic as a result of this behavior. We will be contacting the dealer and Nissan this week as we have lost confidence in the vehicle and are concerned for the safety of our family.

25 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 02/21/2014

When on the interstate after about two hours my vehicle will not accelerate. When I press the gas the rpm's go up but the vehicle does nothing. If I pull off the road for a few minutes it is fine for a little longer but will reoccurs in frequency depending on the temperature outside. My vehicle has a cvt transmission which has been replaced once in July/August of 2013. The new transmission has the same issue and I have taken it into the shop twice now is not fixed.

26 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 09/03/2012

I was trying to back out of my driveway and the car just stalled when I depressed the gas pedal. The vehicle hesitated and then suddenly accelerated. This condition was repeated several time while just driving around town in normal traffic. It is a safety hazard. If I were in the middle of an intersection and had to accelerate to avoid a crash, this type of issue could lead to disaster. This seems to be a problem that has been widely reported on the internet without any concern by Nissan.

27 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 03/13/2012

Came to a very sudden stop to avoid a collision. Vehicle would not accelerate after this. Episode lasted about 20 seconds and then functioned properly. Has happened at least 6 more times since first incident. Always seems to happen when exiting off interstate and coming to a stop. Vehicle starts into intersection and then accelerator seems unresponsive. When this is happening the car does not rev even though accelerator is pushed to the floor repeatedly. Episode will last approx. 15-30 seconds and then seems to return to normal. Very unnerving when facing oncoming traffic. The transmission has already been replaced one time at about 75k. Never performed this way until after dealership replaced the transmission.

28 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Cube. While driving approximately 20 mph, the vehicle would no longer accelerate. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the transmission was faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

29 Power Train problem of the 2009 Nissan Cube

Failure Date: 11/15/2009

The contact owns a 2009 Nissan Cube. The contact was traveling 5 mph when the vehicle failed to accelerate properly and the then abnormally accelerated after the pedal was not being depressed. The vehicle was taken to the dealer three times and serviced for unintended acceleration issues by replacing the transmission. The contact had not driven the vehicle since the time of repairs and was unaware if the failure had been remedied. The manufacturer was contacted. The failure mileage was 5,907 and the current mileage was 31,890.
