Four problems related to tire sidewall have been reported for the 1999 Nissan Frontier. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Both lights and attachments by license plate fell out. Both bulbs and attachments were lost while driving 1 or two weeks apart. Airbag light flashing in past month. Have had mechanic check out and states fuse and everything is okay but the airbag light flashes continuously while vehicle is on. Firestone tires blew out at sidewall x2 tires at 30,000 miles. This was the original tires with vehicle bought brand new. Nissan or firestone stated could not reimburse for loss.
I've only owned this vehicle for 2 weeks. I have digital images of the tire and will send them upon request. The failure was sidewall blowout, not result of running over something. I'm concerned that these tires are all in danger of failure. The look of the blow-out suggests separation of material. (dot number: w2vfnna069 tiresize: p215/65r15).
While traveling 65-70mph vehicle jerked to the side & lost control. It started to slide downhill & over an embankment. Finally, came to a stop & owner got out & checked vehicle & tires. Noticed a large hole in the right front sidewall where it had split. Tire had blown. Vehicle had not hit anything. Tire was a firestone wilderness p215/65r15 95s.
All tires on this vehicle have splits in the area where the tread and sidewall joins. Although there have been no failures at this point , if these are not replaced soom failure is a given. I recently measured the tread depth on these tires and found 7/32 remaining indicating proper presure and alignment have been maintained . Please add this tire line to your ongoing investigation into the firestone tire failures . Thak you , r oger knipptained . ( dot number: 027537 tire size: p21565r15 ).
