1 Wheel problem of the 2022 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/09/2025

When driving, the collision sign randomly comes on. It causes the the vehicle to rev and there's a lag in picking up speed. There are times when the vehicle is "stuck" while waiting on a left turn and it screeches and jolts when I press on the gas to move forward before it actually moves.

2 Wheel problem of the 2025 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/05/2025

Vehicle vibrates at highway speeds starting at 65-70 mph and above. The vibration can be felt thought the steering wheel, after long periods of driving it leads to numb hands. The continuous vibration will cause premature damage to other systems of the vehicle (drive-train and fluid leaks).

3 Wheel problem of the 2010 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/12/2025

I have had this issue for years and unable to fix it. My solution was not to drive my truck in snowy weather. The first incident was I was driving down hill around with snow that barely started to stick. I driving around 65mph when my truck started to buck. I slowed to 30mph and my truck was still bucking. It did not stop until the weather warmed. By the next storm I was traveling around 60mph in light snow and my truck slid. I slowed to 50mph and when going uphill my truck lost control. It felt like the brakes locked. I tired to get control without pressing the brakes that did not work and when I did press the brakes it felt like my petal was already pushed down. I shifted the truck to gain control. Since then I have never drove that truck above 35 mph in snow. After a few weeks of bad weather the truck would either buck or just not move. The truck finally throw a code saying the right rear wheel speed sensor had a weak connection. I took the truck to three mechanics were they found nothing wrong and could not mimic my issue. I replaced my speed sensor myself. I was able drive the truck in snow without it bucking but the truck would still lock up the brakes and slide. I just never drove fast enough that the slide wasn't serious. After years the truck stopped driving in the snow period again. I took it to a local mechanic and a Nissan dealership. Both said the connection were fine to everything but they were able to lock the brakes. I was told by both that it was the abs module and the part was on back order. I called to different dealerships and multiple told me that people have waited for 6 plus months on this part. It took me years of being car-less every winter to figure out what was wrong and to get told the part was on back order. Based on my research is this isn't uncommon. I won't be shocked if there hasn't been car accidents from this. My vehical is dangerous and I have no way to fix it before next winter.

4 Wheel problem of the 2024 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/19/2024

Sway bar was loose from manufacturer. Purchased 7/31. In the first two weeks of driving, I noticed an unusual sound when I turned the vehicle hard one way. At first I thought it was the frame flexing as it was new, however, it seemed to get worse. I noticed the steering become more loose as days went on. I called my salesman who asked me to bring it in to have service take a look. Turns out that the swaybar was not screwed in tight or heck may have been missing a few bolts. Service center said that it came that way from the factory. Doesn't appear that service did a thorough look over when they rcvd the vehicle off the truck. They fixed it, no issue and did so timely. Second, I also noticed that it seems as if the clear coat on the paint job on the front two fenders and hood was missed. The layer, if any, is very very thin and almost non existent. I also noticed that the paint is very thin as if perhaps one coat. It is also a bit pitted almost on the hood and front left fender as if something was sprayed like overspray and the paint is almost pitted in those areas.

5 Wheel problem of the 2016 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/04/2024

The issues iw with the lug nuts expanding locking on the tire so it cannot be takeoff for rotation or replacement or if you have a flat tire tout on the spare. Went to bj's tire in pasadena, MD (1-410-647-6600) to have a rotation and they said they could not do it the lug nuts expanded to larger size and it could cross thread if they got them off and tried tout them back on. As well they might not be secured tight enough that they would not falloff while driving. A safty issues with bj's. Both mechanics verified it and the two managers of the store as we. . I did not believe them so I took it to sheehy Nissan in glen burnie where the two top managers verified that the lug nut expanded so large they had to be replaces or it would be a safty issue with me driving with he old one on as they cannot be safely tightened down and may come off during driving. So I need all 24 lug nuts replaced. I think he said they expanded from 21 mm (or cm) to 22. 5 mm (or cm). The manager has been doing this for over 30 years and his assistant said the same who has been doing it for over 25 years. Mr brian jordan at 1-410-760-3500 ext #81052) so I need all 24 replaced as the rest could expand. The real cost is over $800 but willing to do it for like $550 plus tire rotation. As both bj's managers and tire people and Nissan managers are saying thesis a serious safety issue I believe them. They say unless proper tools used other issues can occur. And almost impossible to remove by the owner of the vechile. Especially if the person icon the road replacing the tier with the spare. They showed me on the internet the issues with Ford and other manufactures from before 2000 having this issue. As I am [xxx] it would be really hard to deal with if an emergency came up o the road. You need look into this issue. It is a real safety issue esp. For older folks. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

6 Wheel problem of the 2017 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/07/2022

From the first snow fall in minnesota, I had to drive very slow, there is no traction, or control of the car. I had 2 spin outs, and one person hit me. I do not feel safe in this car, but you won't trade it in for me. I fear for my life, driving in minnesota winter. The wheels just keep turning, and there is no way to control the car.

7 Wheel problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 04/07/2021

Purchased 4 new general grabber hts tires size 25/75r15 less than 4 months ago. Tires were installed at a reputable dealership. I now have 2,600 miles on the tires. Last week the first tire blew out at the bead, where the tire meets the rim. I installed my full size spare while the first failure is investigated. Now two days later, a second tire is severely deformed at the tire bead and looks like it is about to explode just like the first one. Both failures are right under the ge in general at the tire bead. I believe these tires are completely defective, they are a danger to anyone that has them installed on their vehicle and a danger to the public. The first tire failed while driving at 55mph on a flat, straight, smooth road. The second tire has not completely failed, but there is a large bulge or bubble in the tire where it meets the rim, it looks like it could fail at any moment and is not safe to drive. First photo of first failed tire immediately after it failed on the side of road. Second and third photo is the second tire I believe is about to explode. Last photo dot number of first failed tire. Thank you for your time.

9 Wheel problem of the 2019 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/12/2019

In October of 2019 we purchased a new Nissan Frontier with the rocky ridge package, which includes larger mud type mickey thomson tires. We had a vibration and driving issue. We took it in for repairs. The dealer re-balanced the tires and it got a bit better but not gone. We looked at the tires and saw that they call for up to 80psi. We increased the tire pressure and the truck began to drive better but the tire pressure warning light came on. We returned it to the dealer. They lowered the pressure to 35psi per the guide on the driver door frame. The truck drove sloppy on our trip home (appx. 55 miles). We then contacted the tire manufacture (mickey thomson) they took our information and said "do not run at 35psi. This could cause a failure. " they said run at 50psi minimum for this type of vehicle. The truck now drives good but the tire warning light will not go out. We have contacted the dealer many times but have yet to get a solution. My concern is that this truck was not properly labeled or set up for the tires it was sold with and the tire warning system is now of no value to us since it stays on all the time. Also none of the decals for tire pressure and size (factory or rocky ridge) describe the correct size or true safe operation tire pressure.

11 Wheel problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 11/14/2018

A design defect in the steel wheels allows water to puddle in a channel in the wheel -- because there is inadequate drainage behind a shoulder on the rim. Furthermore the coating of the steel rim is inadequate to prevent rusting of the rim. Thus, after as little as 57,500 miles, the puddling in this undrained channel leads to severe corrosion, with following adverse results. (1) the corrosion invades the hole for the tpms which is located right in the channel -- causing loss of air pressure around the base of the tpms, that cannot be easily remedied. (2) the extent and severity of the corrosion at such low mileage strongly predicts eventual catastrophic wheel failure during the normal lifetime of the vehicle.

12 Wheel problem of the 2012 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 03/03/2017

I bought new tires, same size and brand name as the last 4 tires but a different model type of tires. As I was driving the vehicle on a 2 lane road, the front passenger tire flew off the rim. The rim scraped the roadway and flipped my truck upwards and spun the vehicle up in the air over a guard rail and I hit into a concrete culvert. The vehicle was declared a total loss. The tires were installed by a shop, balanced and aligned. The vehicle was brought back a few days later to that same shop due to the vehicle shaking vigorously at roughly 40 mph. The shop rebalanced the 4 tires and rotated them. The mechanic advised me that the back driver tire had lost psi and was close to 30 psi, the cold psi on the tire says 50 psi. The mechanic advised me that a rotation was completed and that tire was now in the front passenger location and was inflated back to 50 psi. The shop mechanic also advised me that he believed the tire that was then in the front passenger location may be faulty in regards to the wire inside the rubber of the tire and asked where I purchased the tires. As I entered the highway with speed limit of 70, I could merely approach 60 mph with vigorous shaking. I advised the shop of this, but decided to go with another shop to check the balancing and preform a new balancing. The new shop advised me that the rims were not cleaned properly for the initial shop's weights to stay on and said the vehicle may had been throwing their weights off. Upon completion of the 3rd balancing, the shop had also installed a back up camera for me but did not hook the front air bags back up. These did not deploy during the accident. After the last balancing, the vehicle still shook at higher speeds but was much less than the other times. My vehicle never had any of these issues with the tires I previously purchased which lasted approximately 55,000 miles and never shook before.

13 Wheel problem of the 2003 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/20/2017

I noticed a new sound which I thought might be a stuck caliper, yesterday. This morning I drove to my auto garage to get it checked and just after leaving the highway and a block before the garage the driver side wheel fell off! the garage checked it replaced the lug nuts which had all loosened spontaneously and fallen off. The vehicle was moving at a walking pace, turning to the left when the wheel separated.

14 Wheel problem of the 2016 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 12/02/2016

Liberty mutual insurance approved a body shop to repair my truck from an accident (I was not at fault) by removing all parts of my truck from it's original frame and putting it back together on another frame. I was sitting still, when I was hit from behind and pushed into vehicle in front of me. All parties got stopped, except the lady that hit me in the rear.

15 Wheel problem of the 2005 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/31/2016

Tire pressure sensors have consistently reported erroneously low pressures. Distrust of these sensors is potentially lethal in that they are ignored. Dealer says this design defect is not their problem.

18 Wheel problem of the 2015 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/01/2016

Tl the contact owns a 2015 Nissan Frontier. The contact stated that there was an intermittent failure with the rear tires rubber burning out when attempting to make a stop, at a light, up and down a hill which had caused the contact to shift gears into neutral. The caller had to put the gear in neutral and then park but was uncertain as to what was causing the rear to be unstable when releasing the accelerator pedal. No dealer had been able to replicate and diagnose the failure. The vehicle was not repaired so the contact was uncertain if the failure may result in a catastrophic crash. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was waiting to determine the technical guidelines to repair the vehicle. The approximate failure mileage was 26,000.

21 Wheel problem of the 2008 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/04/2014

The spare tire on the vehicle is held in place by a chain under the rear of the vehicle. Its hoisted into place from the back of the vehicle. When checking the air pressure in the spare tire, I found the spare tire rim badly rusted. I'm afraid that the rim's holes will ultimately become so large so as not to hold the lug nuts. If the spare with rusted lug nut holes that were too large, was installed on the vehicle, the spare could possibly come off while the vehicle was in motion. Furthermore, the anchor point on the spare tire hoist is also rusting badly. It may fail to support the spare tire which could then drop from the rear of the vehicle. If the vehicle was moving when it fell, it could bounce and strike the gas tank, possibly causing an accident.

22 Wheel problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/25/2014

While changing the passenger side rear tire of the 2013 Nissan Frontier, one of the wheel lug studs was found to be loose and went half way in. I tried to pull the wheel lug stud with my finger and it won’t come out. I tightened the other four nuts on the wheel lug studs and started to drive to the dealer. While driving on the parkway close to the resting area, I felt like my rear passenger side wheel locked up, I stopped the vehicle and I looked at the rear wheel lug stud that felt like it was stuck halfway in the wheel. One of the two truck drivers asked what the problem was. I told them that I am having a problem with the rear passenger side wheel lug stud because the wheel lug stud seemed to be caught in the brakes. Tow truck driver took a very small screw driver and pushed the wheel lug stud further in and asked if I could move my truck. The wheel got free after he pushed the wheel lug stud further. I was able to move the vehicle in to the parking lot. I called one of my friend, a retired auto mechanic. He came over and opened the wheel and took out the wheel lug stud and the vehicle was drivable. I asked him to take the vehicle to the dealer. This retired mechanic told me that usually these wheel lug stud are supposed to be sealed and shouldn’t be loose and wobbly. This could have been very life threatening if this had happened while driving 65 mph on the parkway.

Wheel bearings keep backing off spoke with other people who own a Frontier and they have same problem this is a saftey issue have to tighten them regularly.

24 Wheel problem of the 2013 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/27/2014

Vehicle rolls-not slides out of driveway while vehicle in park and not running while on snow and ice does not do so when in 4 wheel drive. Nissan dealer has seen videos but says nothing wrong. Lived in house since 1985 and no car has ever rolled out. Only under certain winter conditions does this happen such as wet packed snow. . Was nearly ran over one day getting mail. Video show no key, in park and all 4 tires rotating forward. Second video shows no key, in park 3 wheels rotating forward and 1 rear wheel rotating backward as pickup rolls forward. One dealer could see problem and told me to put blocks behind wheels. Second complaint. Rear bumper has significant rust around license plate, rest of bumper ok. Nissan says because of winter chemicals. Brought this to their attention 4 years ago when pickup had 7835 miles. In 4 years I have attempted to find another pickup approximate same age any make with rust from chemicals. I have the only one in (redacted). Why rust behind license plate which is protected from chemical. The past 4 years I Ave made a minimum of 15 trips, calls, letters all to be told nothing wrong, nothing we can do. Feel as though the big company is bullying the little person. Can send photos, video correspondence separately-not computer savvy. First incident at dealer was 2/27/2018. Might add this is a great pickup, which I can never sell in good faith knowing the dangerous condition on snow and ice.

25 Wheel problem of the 2011 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/23/2014

I was changing a flat tire on my Frontier and when I released the spare tire, the side wall was worn down so the tire could not be used. The way the tire is mounted under the truck caused 4 gashes into the sidewall.

26 Wheel problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 02/23/2014

My Frontier had a flat tire and when my spare tire was lowered, there were 4 spots of the tire that had been worn through the side wall. I tried another tire from a 2011 Frontier and the tire was the same exact way. The way its mounted is the problem.

27 Wheel problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/17/2014

After driving my vehicle to work (around 15 miles), the lights began to dim and the radio turned on and off several times. I parked in the garage where I work, and went to my office to get in touch with a mechanic. About 1/2 hour later, a police officer called because my truck caught fire. It caused damage to the parking structure, and obviously to the vehicle, including melting many of the components under the hood, as well as smoke damage to the inside of the truck. It was totaled.

28 Wheel problem of the 2003 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 10/11/2013

I heard a sudden thud and then a grinding noise coming from the rear end as if a brake had hung up,metal to metal. When I exited the vehicle there was smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle and a very strong smell of overheating of the brakes or metal and fluid. Upon pulling the wheels, our company mechanic found nothing of the sort to be wrong. I called a friend to have the vehicle trailer-ed to monro muffler and brake in mansfield PA,where it was determined the bearings had failed in the rears, both inner and outer. Nissan USA determined that my VIN # did not fall into the recall campaign even though it fell within the same make, model and year within recall campaign #02v299000! Nissan advised me to take the truck to williams Nissan in sayre PA and have it diagnosed there. I had previously called them before contacting Nissan USA where they had already advised me of the VIN # not being within the recall campaign. There is no doubt that an accident could have occurred if not a fire or both! this came with absolutely no warning in the very early morning on my way to work. I would advise anyone who owns these make, model and years to have this checked and repaired. I cannot believe Nissan would not take responsibility in such an exact case as this particular recall states. In essence this does start with the abs braking system and seals as monro told me the seals had failed!.

29 Wheel problem of the 2009 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/01/2013

Tire pressure monitor - stayed on after vehicle was serviced at dealer for 75,000 mi check up which included extensive review of all vehicle systems. After checking cold pressure several times and driving vehicle for several days tire pressue monitor would not go off. Returned to dealer and requested the problem be fixed. They were helpful and polite but tried to charge me $160. 75 for replacing the monitor because the battery went out in the monitor. I am complaining that I should not have spend $160 for each tire monitor because it's battery expired. The batteries should be replacable in the tire monitor. I think its's unfair and poor design to require Nissan owners to spend $640 over time to keep an important saftey feature operational. This system needs to be redesigned to reflect a much less expensive(replaceable battery) replacement part or replace the monitors free of charge.

30 Wheel problem of the 2012 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 09/14/2012

The Frontier 2012 (new car) start loosing the alignment, the dealer worked three times with the same problem, changes the original tires for a new 4 tires, but the problem persisted. In 17 months the car damage 6 new tires changed by the dealer due my complaints and they do not want to attend my car anymore no matter the warranty car. I applied to the lemon law, because the engineer send by Nissan said that the car is working properly. But some mechanics tell me the car problem is in the suspension, at this moment I continue waiting for the florida lemon law results, but very afraid about the insecure feeling at driving my car.

31 Wheel problem of the 2004 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 08/30/2012

For the second time in less then three years my rear axel and wheel have come loose and very close to falling off. Both times the mechanics told me it was because of a broken washer. After doing some research I have found that other Frontier owners have had similar axel problems. Mechanics have told me that they are aware of Frontier rear axel problems. This is a major safety concern for myself and for other Frontier owners. This problem could cause serious and dangerous accidents that could injure or kill people. I was blessed that both times my rear axel failed I was only going at a slow speed. If it happened on the highway at a higher speed I would hate to think what might happen. Axles coming loose should not be happening. Nissan should step up and deal with this major safety problem.

32 Wheel problem of the 2006 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/25/2012

I purchased my truck from the Nissan dealer in 2006 and recently noticed that the front tires were worn rather badly. I thought this was unusual since I had less than 35,000 miles on the truck. I took my truck to sears and asked them to align the wheels and rotate the tires. Sears could not do the alignment because they would have to order and install some parts that were not on the truck at manufacturing. I called Nissan north America to find out if this was necessary and was told that for certain make of vehicles this was true. I would have to pay for the parts and labor to make it possible to align the wheels to recommended specifications. According to sears, since the cambers and casters were not within recommended specification, tire wear, handling and safety problems may result. I feel that the necessary parts should have been installed during manufacturing to avoid any possible accidents due to premature tire wear. The Nissan dealer should install the necessary parts for free and Nissan should notify any vehicle owners affected by this deficiency which might cause handling and safety problems.

33 Wheel problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 05/02/2011

My vehicle has the low tire air pressure sensor. All 4 of the tires leak because the valve stems are cracking internally. The valve stems are $100 each plus labor to install them. Soft tires are unsafe and could blow out causing accidents and injury. These should be recalled. Nissan says they won't help.

34 Wheel problem of the 2007 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 01/13/2011

On 01-13-2011 I was driving my 2007 Nissan Frontier pick up on PA sr 92s. Between nicholson and tunkhannock abs and slip warning lights came on. I called my Nissan dealer immediately, explained the problem and dificulties I had handling the vehicle on the snow covered road. I was told that earliest appointment I could get was 01-20-2011. On my way back, when I drove on another snowy road I applied 4x4 system but it failed to engage. Now the abs, slip and 4x4 did not work and I had hard times to make it safely home. I called the dealer again a was again told that I could get it fixed on 01-20-2011. I decided to report this problem and I hope that your investigation of my complain will make driving, especially winter driving of Nissan vehicles safer.

35 Wheel problem of the 2002 Nissan Frontier

Failure Date: 06/15/2002

The outer edges of the two front tires continues to feather (wear off unevenly) and the vehicle continues to pull to the right after three attempts to repair the defect by the Nissan dealer. This is a serious safety hazard according to two certified mechanics. As a result, we have not been able to fully utilize the vehicle as indicated by the low odometer reading (less the 7,000 miles after a year).
