Body Problems of Nissan Kicks

On Friday, January 23, 2026, at approximately 6:41am, I was going to starbucks located at 5378 w. Rosecrans Ave hawthorne, CA 90250. My partner and I were talking, I was just about to exit to get my coffee then we heard a loud “pop” like a gun shot, and then the sound of shattering glass. We jumped, frighted, startled by the sound, immediately looking over at the back seat of my car window. We both exited the car, a man who was outside of the front of my car (just walking by coming out of starbucks) heard the same sound, he exclaimed “what was that a gun shot?”, we both thought it was an active shooter! I ducked and took cover. I was scared for my life. I noticed a women exiting her car across from mine, assumed it was safe. I asked her if she saw anything. She seen I was shaking up, and my window was shattered. She did not see anything. She asked if we needed assistance to contact the police department. Starbucks employees and witnesses assisted as we were unsure as to what was going on, and worried. I suffer from epilepsy and asthma and I have health problems. It was a lot to take in at that moment; my partner was concerned for me as I was for him. The thoughts of being killed kept running through our minds, and so thankful to be alive, we were completely traumatized! we had to get.

The rear body vent seal failed, allowing water to enter the vehicle interior. This component is available for inspection. I noticed a sloshing water sound, and over time there was excess interior moisture, including repeated interior window frosting that required scraping for visibility. A Nissan dealership later confirmed water intrusion and interior mold contamination affecting the driver-side floor, rear seating area, and trunk. The presence of mold inside the cabin poses a health risk to occupants, and ongoing water intrusion creates a potential risk to vehicle electrical systems and other components. The issue was confirmed by a Nissan dealership through inspection and diagnosis. The vehicle has been inspected by Nissan service personnel. No police or insurance inspection was related to this issue. There were no warning lamps, messages, or alerts indicating water intrusion prior to discovery. The only symptom was the sloshing water sound, which prompted inspection.

The passenger door opens while driving and at times will not open. The dealership has a back order for a part in which I was told it could take months to receive. The part is a door accentuator. Corporation and dealership refused to provide a loaner or rental vehicle.

January 15, 2025 (~1,000 miles): infotainment system was black at startup. Vehicle was beeping and flashing warning/service lights. System would not shut off. This occurred three times within the first week. I contacted the selling dealer for guidance. No documentation was provided for that initial report. • I was unable to bring the vehicle in immediately due to a family medical emergency but continued reporting the issue. • prior to February 7, 2025: I contacted deery Nissan regarding the ongoing infotainment malfunction and water leaking through the rear hatch during a car wash. • February 7, 2025 (2,230 miles): rear hatch seal replaced. Electrical repairs performed on infotainment system. • March 24–28, 2025: infotainment malfunction reported again. Diagnostics and software check performed. • September 2025: front bumper paint peeling. Repainted at local repair shop. Paint also peeling from steering wheel Nissan emblem. • January 16, 2026: infotainment malfunction reported again. • January 20, 2026: dealer unable to duplicate. • January 27, 2026: both screens malfunctioning. I recorded video and sent to dealership. • February 4, 2026: vehicle inspected again. Dealer stated unable to duplicate. • February 11, 2026: additional video sent, including VIN visible. I also brought vehicle in so dealership could record the malfunction themselves. • February 20, 2026: still no resolution. I have an appointment to speak to the dtsm from Nissan. Paint peeled on my front bumper and Nissan logo on my steering wheel.

We have had several problems with our 2021 Nissan Kicks, all of which are safety concerns, and all of which have have occurred at well under 100,000 miles. We purchased the vehicle from a Nissan dealer in January of 2022. 1 - rust is bubbling up from under the paint. I am told this is perforating rust that could easily spread to or originate from the frame of the vehicle. This could cause the entire structure to fail. Despite the 5 year, no mileage limitation warranty for perforating rust, Nissan has refused to comply with the warranty. At the executive complaint level, they have admitted that the warranty exists, but at the repair level, Nissan has repeatedly informed the dealer that the vehicle is not covered by a rust warranty or that the warranty expired based on mileage. The person at the corporate complaint level refuses to speak with the dealer or affirm the coverage in writing. At the repair level, Nissan has offered a fix outside of warranty coverage (a patch) which does not provide the continuing coverage provided by a warranty repair (which requires replacement of the panel). I have spent countless hours taking the car in to have it looked at and on the phone to try to get coverage with no success. 2 - the structural metal on the inside of the drivers door is cracking. We took the car in for repair because the window was not working but when they opened it up, they found that the the structural metal of the door itself where the window mechanism is attached has cracked. We have video indicating this may be a design defect in addition to poor materials. The Nissan dealer is not helpful, saying only that they don't have a body shop. Body shops say the entire door needs to be replaced but do not want to get involved with seeking help from Nissan. 3 - the cvt transmission failed just after the manufacturers warranty expired which is way too early for this problem. By some miracle, most of the cost was covered by a third party warranty company.

Drivers side door lock will not function properly. The remote will successfully lock/unlock all of the other doors. If the drivers door is locked with the key it will remain locked despite the other doors unlocking with the remote. This problem has been widely reported on Nissan online forums, there are no indicator/warning lights associated with this issue. This issue provides the illusion of a securely locked car when then drivers door remains unlocked, providing an opportunity for theft or worse while parked. This has been an ongoing issue since purchasing the vehicle.

The hood flew open unexpectedly while driving on the highway causing significant damage. No lights or indicators appeared on dashboard. Car has 9,000 miles and Nissan is currently doing an investigation with inspection on car June 20, 2024.

We just leased the vehicle on 12/1/22. It’s only been driven 3 times. I was driving the car on 12/9/22. I had just gotten on the highway and when I got up to 50 mph the hood flew open. The hood and both front quarter panels are damaged. I’ve looked online and this has been a known and ongoing issue with multiple models including the altima, pathfinder, rouge as well. The dealership has had the vehicle since day of incident and has not reached out to us yet.

Side impacted by 52 year old Jeep. Both driver side doors caved in, windows shattered, air bags did not deploy.
