Nissan Kicks owners have reported 56 problems related to warnings (under the forward collision avoidance category). The most recently reported issues are listed below. Also please check out the statistics and reliability analysis of Nissan Kicks based on all problems reported for the Kicks.
The abs and forward collision system failed. This caused the car not to respond during a hard brake when it was raining. I almost had an accident. The car was inspected on September 4, 2025, by universal Nissan (12785 s orange blossom trail, orlando, florida). Universal Nissan found a malfunction in the abs control (actuator & ecu assy antiskid) with a repair cost of $2,448. The car has 18,689 miles. The warning lamps appear as soon as the malfunction starts. The Nissan Kicks owner forum reports this abs problem as recurrent. There are multiple reports on the website. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs (case #5576215). They did not take responsibility for the abs problem.

The car gives me warning signals. All the warnings display on my screen and then the car doesn’t advance. It has happened several times and I’ve been put in danger since I live in san antonio TX and there’s always traffic. I’ve called the dealer and they just tell that there’s no recalls for that vehicle. A lady that works at the same company I do has had the save issue. I searched online and many others are having the same issue. Also I purchased a code scanner which tells me it’s the mass air flow sensor and I replaced it but the issue persists. I put yesterday’s date’s for the incident but it has also happened to me at least 4 times before please assist. My email is [xxx] . My name is [xxx] and my VIN number [xxx] information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).

The front crash warning will come on and then the car will just cut off. This has happened multiple times while driving. It’s dangerous because it happens without any warning and there is nothing going on with traffic to trigger the warning light.

I keep getting the p0101 code for the maf sensor and I’ve replaced it 2 times with oem ones and I still get that code later on. I’ve cleaned the throttle body and replaced the air filter with an oem one and that light with also the “wet road” and “forward collision” light keep popping up. Stalling has also occurred multiple times while in park or at a stop light and rough idle when ever not in movement.
I was driving on the road like normal and suddenly I got a front collision warning on the dash, the car wouldn’t accelerate and lost all power. Check engine light also came on with code reading p0101. I’ve had this issue before and the dealer doesn’t know what to do or they want to charge me a lot of money to fix it. I’ve read online many many people having the same issue. Luckily this hasn’t happened on the highway but if it does happen it could be catastrophic.
I own a 2020 Nissan Kicks and have experienced recurring and unpredictable electrical and system malfunctions while driving. At times, a "malfunction, see owner's manual" warning appears on the dashboard, accompanied by multiple warning lights including: forward collision warning slippery road / traction control warning. Occasionally, the high beam headlights turn on by themselves, and I have noticed that the malfunction also leads to the engine stalling when I switch to reverse to park my car. These warnings appear randomly, about a few times a month, while driving under normal conditions. The issue usually resolves temporarily after restarting the vehicle, but this raises serious concerns about the reliability of key safety systems such as traction control, collision avoidance, and issues with the engine itself. On several occasions, the check engine light (cel) accompanied these other warning lights during the "malfunction" and the cel remained on even after a restart. A diagnostic scan revealed p0101 (mass air flow sensor performance issue). However, when I had the vehicle inspected at a Nissan dealership, the technicians stated that the maf sensor and related systems were operating correctly, and they could not identify a specific mechanical issue. Despite that, the cel and other malfunctions continue to occur intermittently. They were also not able to recreate the situation I explained with the malfunction since it occurs at random times. This issue has happened multiple times and creates uncertainty about whether the vehicle is safe to operate. I have found numerous reports online from other Nissan Kicks owners experiencing the same combination of issues (p0101, engine stalling, random warning lights, and vehicle malfunctions that reset upon restart). I have attached a repair invoice from the dealership. Just recently on 6/22, this happened again as I was driving at night. When I went to park my car, the engine stalled again. I attached a dashboard photo.
The mass air flow (maf) sensor malfunctioned, causing the vehicle to idle roughly, stall unexpectedly, and trigger continuous beeping. During the failure, the power steering locked, making it extremely difficult to steer and creating a serious safety hazard for myself and others on the road. The issue was reproduced and confirmed by a service center, and the sensor was replaced by a Nissan dealership with the system reset/rebooted. However, despite this repair, the vehicle has again begun experiencing the same symptoms, including rough idling, stalling, beeping, and loss of steering control. The recurrence of this problem after dealership repair indicates that the issue may extend beyond a single component and presents an ongoing safety concern. The vehicle and repair records remain available for inspection upon request.
While driving on a sunny day out of nowhere, no car around me and the car symbol for slippery road, front end collision and see owner’s manual appeared. After stopping at a red light when it was time to turn the car stalled. Although I was pressing the gas the car was barely moving then it “jumped forward” and started driving normally again. I took it to the dealership, they ran a test said the only issue was the battery. Informed them I replaced the battery less than 1 month ago. They said that was the issue so I purchased a new battery from them. 2 weeks later driving home in the rain, the same things happened again. The same symbols and warning. Again I was not in a collision or even near anyone when it came on. I was driving on the highway. When I arrived home I tried to back up into my driveway and the car stalled, although I was pressing the gas the car would not move. I had to turn off the car to be able to finish reversing the car. After researching online it seems to be a wide issue with the Nissan Kicks with the dealership saying do one thing or another but yet the problem persists. I am lucky that the moments it stalled there were no heavy traffic.
The emergency collision light came on my vehicle, then traction light, car stalled and wouldn't accelerate. This issue put me at risk to be rear ended at 55 mph. Took it to the dealer and was diagnosed as the mass air flow sensor. I've read about 100 articles of other owners experiencing this repetitively.
On[xxx] exactly one week after vehicle was purchased the car began stalling at 55 mph. The slip indicator lights and aeb lights came on the dash and I lost all acceleration. The vehicle became impossible to move I had to shut it off and restart it. The lights went off and I made it home, still with decreased acceleration. I have a [xxx] and do not feel safe with a vehicle that loses acceleration and then won't move on a highway. That's how you get rear ended. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer 4/5/25 and I have not heard back from them. After further research and reading forums of other 2019 Kicks owners this is a recurring issue that desperately needs to be recalled. The radio randomly reboots to Nissan screen. Information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u. S. C. 552(b)(6).
Driving and the collision lights came on, took back to have fixed, they said no lights are coming up for them , then it happened again , gave me loaner car it’s happened three other times they still have the car.
The forward collision sensor and system malfunctioned such that it would cause the car to drive erratically. The car would swerve on its own and would need driver inputs to get it back on course. It would also tend to make the car slow down and stop in the middle of the road. This system malfunction occurred just after the car reached the 36000 mileage mark. An inspection of the cover for the forward collision sensor covered revealed it to be attached to car on only one side. The cover is made out of plastic and the side that is free was bent over and no longer square with the direction of travel.

The vehicles electrical system will go out mid drive. Front collision and rear collision sensor will turn off. Also the traction control will turn off with the other sensors going out. Plus the transmission while it’s sensors are going out will make it unable to pull out either forward or reverse.
Abs system warning light turns on and off, and abs fails after 50,000 miles on vehicle. System requires abs actuator replacement, but replacement isn't reliable. Nissan has been contacted and refused to acknowledge issue or offer assistance with issue. This has been an issue in all Nissan Kicks and leaf models dating back to 2018 and through current models. I believe a recall should be instated for this problem because multiple cars could potentially be driving without their abs systems active. This could lead to poor ability to stop in inclement weather and could lead to more accidents on highways. The lights randomly turning off could mislead drivers into thinking that nothing is wrong with their vehicles. Upon first inspection at local Nissan dealership they reported no problem but loose battery terminal.
The ldw sensors do not function and Nissan tells me it would cost 2300. 00 to fix the problem. After researching, I find that this is a common, known problem with this make, model and year of vehicle. I feel that nhsta should get Nissan to issue a recall.
Lane departure randomly deploys also the cars collision stop happens often even without being near objects and/or people.
The collision warning lights randomly come on, the vehicle loses power suddenly. If I was trying to merge or go on the interstate and suddenly my vehicle loses power while thinking I have enough distance and can accelerate safely but my vehicle just loses power other drivers wouldn’t be able to stop while I was pretty much stuck.
Hello, this has happened multiple times within a year & a half of having the vehicle (bought in Jan 2023) where the front collision warning will randomly go off during anytime of the day, even at night. I have also had all the side collision warnings just stay yellow in the screen while driving. Just recently when I was driving in the mountains of GA, I had everything go off & the "forward driving aids temporarily disabled. ".

They have replaced the transmission two times and this transmission is going bad, it's slipping, shuddering, and hesitating when you hit the gas. This car is a death trap waiting to happen. Nissan knows they put junk transmissions in these cars but still sells them. Nissan is going to end up hurting/killing a lot of innocent lives. It's not safe to be driving this car around, half the time the car doesn't want to go when you hit the gas. My daughter turns 16 and will not be driving this death trap. Nissan needs to recall the 2020 Nissan Kicks sv transmissions too. I do have all the paperwork from the transmissions being put it. I get the run around with the dealer. The vibration issue and they say it'll do that at 90. The collision light is always coming on (I have pictures of that too).
While traveling in heavy traffic my Kicks went into limp mode and all front crash sensors were illuminated. I was stuck on a busy interstate. Took car to dealer they stated it was the ecm, they replace it under warranty. I had the car back 5 days and it did it again in heavy traffic. The first thing it does is cuts out then 30 sec later back in limo mode all the same sensors everything. Took the car back now they say the alternator is starting to fail. And this part is not covered under warranty. Now I'm paying for something I truly don't believe is a problem especially when the computer readout they showed me continues to point to the front sensors. I travel for work every day and this car makes me feel very unsafe as I travel busy highways I now feel I have to plan for this to happen and how am I going to get off the highway to a safe location, with construction it is very scary at times. This vehicle is starting to interfere with my job. I have voluntarily surrender the vehicle back to the bank, I have been unable to trade it in because I owe too much on it. And they don't want to deal with the issues it's been having.
I purchased the vehicle in April of 2023. It has just over 2000 miles on it. I don't drive it very much. Starting in January of 2024, I’ve been having intermittent issues with my fairly new Nissan Kicks vehicle, as follows: •engine stalling at stop •forward emergency brake (Feb) sensor activates when no obstruction present – and while driving full speed on road I have taken the vehicle to the dealership service center for evaluation several times. As of today (2/13/2024) they have had it for a week. While I have been told there is a software update to fix the engine stalling issue (no time frame for release of the software upgrade), they are unable to reproduce the Feb sensor issue and have recommended that I continue to drive the vehicle with this problem. Diving the vehicle with an intermittent Feb sensor issue is unsafe and is placing me and others on the road at risk for accident, injury, and potentially death. I did not sign up to be a crash test dummy/guinea pig in order to help Nissan troubleshoot dangerous sensor issues.

The car has massive acceleration during shifting in the transmission and the car suddenly stops during driving and loses the power to accelerate.
Car keeps malfunctioning the airbag light won’t cut off it keeps picking up speed after I use cruise control it’s jerking .
We had just purchased the car days prior. Assuming it was reliable we traveled an hour from home in clear conditions. Forward collision sensor malfunctioned on the way to our destination. After arriving, we left the vehicle unattended for quite sometime, hoping the issue would resolve. After turning off the forward collision sensor once back in the vehicle, it shut off completely as we were merging on to the interstate, again in clear weather conditions. The vehicle would not move, and had shut down completely. After getting the vehicle back on the road, I had my sales team drop it off at Nissan in russellville, ar. It has since been seen 3 separate times for the same forward collision sensor malfunction. It will not drive, and I feel very unsafe with this vehicle on the road.
I have had several issues with my check engine light popping on and off, I have also had my car brake by itself while going 65/70 mph on the interstate twice almost causing two rear end collisions, the lights go haywire, the car does not want to accelerate.
Im getting a front collision warning light with nothing in front of w.
My Kicks keeps giving the front collision warning, showing malfunction-see owner's manual, the traction light, front impact light and check engine light come on. Then it is extremely slow to accelerate and often doesn't get over 25 mph. In order to get the car working again, you have to pull over, turn the car off, open the door and close the door, and restart the car. Sometimes you have to unplug some sensor on top of the motor and plug it back in to get the car to work.
Symptoms: *automatic emergency braking (3 occasions) *slip indicator (3 occasions) *check engine -code p0101 (been on 4 weeks so far) road condition: sunny days aeb and slip indicator lights randomly came on 3 different times. On the 3rd time, check engine light came on together and it's been on ever since. Aeb and slip lights go away after the car is turned off. Having aeb and slip lights on makes the car drive like it is on the lower gear and the engine shut off at every red light. I started noticing the smell of excess gasoline fume especially when the car is moving but not accelerating, meaning that when my foot is off the gas pedal. Because p0101 indicates maf sensor malfunction, I replaced with a hitachi-made maf sensor. For some strange reason, the car lost battery power so I ended up replacing battery at the same time. Unfortunately, the check engine light is still on.
Car malfunctions while driving car stalls at 0 car cuts off air bags stuck on car was one of the ones that did not get fixed I recently just purchased this vechicle and it was used by a fleet company so it never got serviced when it had recalls.
The vdc warning came on again going north with no reason why dealer cannot figure out. This is very dangerous warnings that no wreck happened you need to have these autos recalled. This is dangerous. Why don't you recall these autos and have Nissan correct the problem.
The vdc system is malfunction reporting an error when traveling east in the evening shows a collision which nothing happened.
The warning of the vdc comes on warning that a acident has happened the camera needs to be redesined false accident warnings.
The vdc system comes on to alert of accident when it should not took to dealer twice and they advise nothing wrong with it.
The front collision warning light came on and the vehicle would not accelerate. I pulled over, stopped, turned off the car for about 5 minutes. I restarted it and and the front collision ? still didn't turn off and would not accelerate. In park the rpms did not move when I pressed the gas pedal. I turned the car off again for 5 minutes. I opened the hood and closed it and cleared snow from around the tires. I started it and the front collision light went off but the check engine light stays on now. Since then the car will randomly skip and jerk when accelerated between 25 and 35 mph. I checked with auto zone and they said the code is the ecm. Electronic control module. I'm going to have it inspected by a mechanic to confirm the issue.
The components that failed in multiple instances include the engine shutting off in traffic at a stop light, the failure to accelerate as if the engine is stuck, and the forward collision warning indicator repeatedly coming on while driving with no one is front of me. An accident almost occurred while sitting at the traffic light when the car shut off and while trying to get on the highway and being unable to pick up speed puts our safety at risk. Additionally, the potential for an accident to occur while driving if the engine shuts off or forward collision sensor triggers the automatic emergency braking system. The problems have been reported to the service center and the vehicle is scheduled for inspection and a diagnostic 02/20/23. There were no warning signs in the engine failure incident at the traffic light. The forward collision warning light comes on sporadically. The engine acceleration issue happens at unknown times while pulling off from lights to getting on the interstate ramps.
