1 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 11/04/2020

After coming from work (54 mile back and forth) on 11/4/2020, parked 2014 Leaf sv at the driveway for 40 minutes. Then went back in, powered the car and shifted to reverse. The car backed-up fast because the brake seemed not working. So I have to stepped on the pedal harder. I know some thing is wrong because when you step on the brakes a noise a can be heard at the front. I checked and it seemed like its actuating something but nothing is happening. The pedal is deep. The dashboard brake light is on and yellow warning light. I turned it off and after 1 hour I rechecked and it got back to normal operation. But this was repeated several times during cold weather. This time 11/18/20, it happened again. The e-driven intelligent braking comm is the dtc code that came up.

2 Brake Light On problem of the 2018 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 01/12/2020

This Nissan Leaf has an ez-pedal feature. When enabled, taking your foot off the accelerator slows you down quickly until you come to a full stop. And then the car does not move. And this non-movement does not require depressing the brake. While a convenience, there is a design flaw. When enabled and the car is stopped (but in drive), the brake lights do not come one. In contrast, when stopped using the brakes, the brake lights are illuminated. This is a safety hazard! drivers approaching from behind don't expect a stopped car to not have brake lights on. They may realize rather late that the car is stopped. In other words, the visual cue of "brake lights on means car is stopped or slowing down" is not evident. Which can lead to mistakes by drivers who are not paying full attention. This happened to me recently. I was stopped behind a car waiting at a crosswalk. On a 3 lane 40mph street, with no lights or stop signs for a mile. A fast stretch with no expectation of stopping!. I, in my Leaf, had ez pedal enabled. I worried that someone might hit me, since I was stopped in a place that is unusual to stop in. And 15 seconds after stopping I wast rear ended! no personal damage, but $1500 in repair (and more for the car that hit me). Since I was not at fault, I will get full insurance. But it is not a good thing! I checked later - and indeed the brake lights do not go on when the car is stopped in ez-pedal mode. This needs to be resolved! I imagine this is a software update. I suggest that for cars (leaf or other) in drive, with ez-pedal enabled: when the car is fully stopped the brake lights must go on. And, when the car is decelerating quickly (when you take your foot of the accelerator while moving), the brake lights should go on. Thanks. I could of put on my emergency flashers, but it is not easy to think of such a trick on the fly.

3 Brake Light On problem of the 2014 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 12/05/2018

After disconnecting charge port, the vehicle start displayed the warning light, abs and brake light. Major electric problem. The vehicle was stationary, at the vehicle charge station.

4 Brake Light On problem of the 2015 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 11/14/2018

Brake warning lights on dash may turn on at startup sometimes, and pressing brakes cause grinding noise (like anti lock activated). Located in san jose, CA, weather is about 50-90 degrees f. Nissan keeps on saying there's no issue, and it's a $4k fix to replace the whole brake system, and will not look at the issue. Have gone to several dealerships, no help.

5 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 10/19/2018

Brake failure on a city street. The electric brake control unit failed while the car was in motion in a straight line. I was able to stop the car without an accident. The hazard light, warning light, brake light and abs light were all illuminated. I recycled power to the car but the error did not reset. I took the car to the Nissan dealership in murray utah for an assessment. Nissan said the electric brake control unit was bad. Also the car had a can bus error. The car's warranty expired in July of 2018 and Nissan refused to fix the car. According to Nissan the electric brake control unit is $2000 and $480 to install. I refused to pay. I opened a case with Nissan electrical vehicle support (877 664-2738) to see if they would fix the car. They also refused to fix the issue.

6 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 05/30/2018

Driving about a mile away from my house on a local street this morning, I was approaching an intersection at about 35 mph, the lights were about to turn red, tying to brake to stop. . . All the brake lights lit up after I push the brake pedal, brake pedal came all the way to the floor, car had no brakes, complete brake failure, threw it in neutral and slammed on the emergency brake to stop, this vehicle has only about 42k miles on it. Avoided a collision with oncoming traffic by swerving the car.

7 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 11/28/2015

Started car by pressing brake and ignition. Put the car in reverse. Car started moving at 2-5 mph with the brake still pressed. Brake lost resistance and had to press hard to floor to stop car. No brake pressure. Took atleast 10-15 feet for the car to complete stop. Same thing happened when moved to drive forward. Fortunate that no one was close to car when this happened. Tik-tok-tik-tok sounds from car, pedal pulses rapidly and abs and brake lights came on. Dealer replaced the 12v battery 2 weeks before this happened. Dropped the car at the dealership again. I see exact same complaints on this website from at least 10 other people. Not sure when this will become an issue that will be addressed by the manufacturer. Not sure if I can update this complaint later once I hear back from the dealer. If I can I will update it.

8 Brake Light On problem of the 2013 Nissan Leaf

Failure Date: 01/07/2014

I needed to press hard on the brake pedal to stop the car. The abs light and the red brake light stayed on.
