Three problems related to engine exhaust system have been reported for the 1996 Nissan Maxima. The most recently reported issues are listed below.
Emissions control parts failure - mil light on-known problem/voluntary recall but not covered for CA vehicles so cost is over $500.
Having a problem with the emissions system. It continually turns on, and the engine runs rough when light is on. This also affects the vehicle mpg and acceleration.
Water leaked into emission controlcanister causing ecu to burn out ,engine came on. Ecu needed to be replaced.
