1 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 10/06/2010

The contact owns a 2000 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that when restarting the vehicle, the engine would misfire and the vehicle would shake abnormally. The vehicle would also shake abnormally when driving at various speeds and would sporadically begin to lose power. The dealer performed a diagnosis on the vehicle and determined that the ignition was defective. Most recently, the check engine warning light was illuminated and would not shut off. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 34,000 and the current mileage was 36,000.

2 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 04/25/2007

Check engine light on. I had the vehicle checked said they could not tell which coil is bad so all 6 has to be replaced. This is sad we have to pay to fix parts that might not be broken just because Nissan wants to make extra money I guess or they would have made it so you will know exactly which coil is bad! I think there should be a recall and Nissan should fix this part seeing has they know there is a problem with it. Unless of course Nissan doesn't stand by there vehicles!!!.

3 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2007

Engine runs rough during cold weather (<50 degrees) and trips the code for engine misfire. The code does not always tell which cylinder has the misfire. Engine coils determined to be the problem, but replacement only delays another misfiring for a while. I like the car but doubt I'll ever buy another Nissan because of this issue.

4 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 02/28/2007

With only 50,000 miles on my Maxima, the check engine light came on. After bringing it to nappoli Nissan in milford, I was told that the several of the coils were bad and they recommended replacing all six ($1191. 82). After looking on line I found that numerous complaints were posted. I call Nissan and they told me because there was no recall and the warranty was up at 36000 miles they could not help. Nissan has change the part , obviously because of a design flaw and I feel they should be liable for the repair!.

5 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 09/05/2006

2000 Nissan Maxima engine misfire poor acceleration defective coil packs. Service advisor recommends replacing all six coil packs with new design @ my expense. Replaced one defective coil pack & spark plug in that cylinder.

6 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2006

2000 Nissan Maxima. Problem with engine misfiring related to ntb01059. Problem continues to recur though coil packs (6) are replaced. This is expensive. Nissan knows about it. There are websites and petitions with over 3000 names of people having this recurring problem.

7 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2006

My check engine light is on - and the car is running poorly. There is an issue with it jerking intermittently while driving. I have been told by the repair shop that there is a technical service bulletin on this car for bad engine coils and harnesses. Total cost to repair is between $3,000-4,000. If a manufacturer knows there is a problem with a car it produces, it should have a recall and repair the cars affected.

8 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 02/17/2006

I have a 2000 Nissan Maxima after looking on the internet for parts to fix my car I came across a site called car survey about people with 2000 Maximas complaining about the same problem with there car. Reading further into it I have the same problem with my car. The car stalls in drive and in park this is a real problem for all of us considering that Nissan wants about 1,000 dollars to fix this problem which I believe and a lot of people believe are the coils. This is a lot of money to most of us trying to raise a family and do not have that type of money. When I bought this Maxima I was thinking I bought a nice reliable car, not knowing about this problem which a lot of people have experienced already. I am hoping that this letter among others will further convince Nissan to do something about this problem considering it seems to be a defect in these cars thank you very much.

9 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2006

My 2000 Nissan Maxima with only 46,000 miles on it needed a major repair that ended up costing me $1,000. The repair was the replacement of all cylinder coils because they were misfiring.

10 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 12/20/2005

My check engine soon light had been coming on and a diagnostic test had indicated multiple misfires. The Nissan tech said the coil numbers could not be identified and suggested all be replaced. This cost me $815. Nissan is aware of this apparently widespead problem with this make/model/year and continues to fleece its customers. All you need do is search net for customers talking about this problem.

11 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 12/07/2004

I have a 2000 Maxima with now over 100,000 miles on it. When I was way under that I had misfiring problems which turned out to be the coils. All 6 were replaced. Not even a week later they were replaced again. I am now at 119,000 miles and my car is sputtering and stalling upon starting up. I have read the same problem with somone else and they had to replace their coils. My car is no longer under waranty. So I hope dearly that it's not the coils again. Which I'm sure it is. Nissan needed to have recalled this car a long time ago. It is simply rediculous that the consumer should have to pay for Nissan's mistakes. If Nissan will not fix my car if it is the coils this time I will never buy another Nissan again and I currently have 2 of them.

12 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2004

My 2000 Nissan Maxima started vibrating really badlly and the check engine light came on. After turning off the car and turning back on the problem went away, but I had it towed to Nissan dealer and they later diagnosied it as a bad igition coil. This happened at 40,000 miles and now at 67000 the same problem is occuring again. I researched the problem on the web and noticed may owners of Nissan have the same problem and it's frustrating that a recall has not been made. It's a safefy hazzard when the coil goes bad while driving. I have no faith in Nissan and looking forward to getting another quality car. It won't be a Nissan!!!!!.

13 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 07/04/2004

Ignion coli faliure, common on 2000 Maxima.

14 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 06/04/2004

Car ran rough. Check engine light came on. Dealer said all coils need to be replaced. Not under warranty. Over $600 for this . Called Nissan direct. They said they would not pay for defective parts even though they said they are well aware of this problem with the Nissan Maxima !.

15 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 11/20/2003

I also had problems with the electrical engine: ignition. I had my #6 coil replaced recently. This is my third and last Nissan. Their quality has gone way down. My mechanic advise me to sell it as soon as possible. He had many complaints/ problems with Nissan cars. You'll end end spending more money and getting more headaches han it's worth. Nissan needs to be more responsible for their products!-their customer service won't do you any good. I don't expect anything from them. I hope that more people would come out with their problems so that it can be investigated. I've always brought it to the dealership to get my car serviced, but it seems like no one knows what they're doing. They never seem to fix the right thing, and you end up wasting money on service you don't need.

16 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2003

The coil has gone out on my 2000 Nissan Maxima twice now the first time catching on fire. The first time I just thought that it was just a part that needed to be replaced, after a little research I now believe that this is a defective part that needs to be recalled.

17 Ignition problem

Failure Date: 09/01/2000

We are currently waiting for a # 6 coil for our 2000 Maxima, this part is on back order from the manufacturer and there are no available parts in the u. S. Since this part is on hold for other customers at other dealerships in the area, it seems to me that this part is failing on a lot of new cars(under three years old) this part should be recalled. We've also experienced a failure with the transmission and since our car was still under warranty at the time, we had it fixed at the manufacturers expense. Instead of receiving a new one we received a "rebuilt" one. How do you have a "rebuilt" transmission on hand for a brand new car is a question I've never had answered from the maufacturer.
