The car is jerking/bucking violently when shifting from reverse into drive and again when shifting into first and second gears. It is also jerking when downshifting from second to first gear. At first, the shifting problem was an occasional occurrence, however, it has progressively gotten worse. Now it is almost constant. After researching this problem, I have found that hundreds and hundreds of '04-05 Maxima owners are experiencing the exact same problems. This is quite obviously a Nissan manufacturing defect that should be corrected by Nissan corp.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. The contact was traveling 65 mph when the brakes were abruptly applied and they exhibited an abnormal grinding. The contact stated that the brakes were recently serviced and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer but the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The failure recurred one week later and the vehicle was taken to the dealer again for diagnosis. Again, the dealer was unable to diagnose the failure and the vehicle was not repaired. The VIN was unavailable. The failure mileage was 105,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.
I bought a 2004 Nissan Maxima in 2003 right after the redesign, and every since I have had it little things start going wrong. At 39,000 miles major things start going wrong now at 54,000 miles I have no abs braking system, and other things seems to start acting up. I have tried asking Nissan for help but they told me to get lost. I wish the TSB would look out for the consumers and get them some relief. I guess the only thing we as consumer can do is get a lawyer and sue under the lemon law and I know you don't need any money to retain an attorney. I know that 928 complaints that some thing is wrong with the product, and I am sure that the courts will agree with me. I had high hopes for Nissan cars but now if you try to give me one I would try and have you committed. I will never buy another Nissan ever.
Recently purchased a 2004 Nissan Maxima for my 16 year old, did not have the car for 3 days and had car shut off and could hear a motor or pump running. Determined it was the abs pump, vehicle warranty does not cover that now Nissan is charging $1500. 00 to fix problem. Needless to say the car is not fixed and sitting under car port until we can resolve issue.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Maxima. On approximately six occasions, the engine revved while approaching a stop. The brake was being depressed at the time of the failures. The abs actuator had to be replaced at 62,000 miles. Two of the goodyear tires cracked and had to be replaced. The current mileage was 63,000 and failure mileage was 62,000. Updated 12/1/08 the consumer also stated there was a problem with the transmission. Updated 12/05/08.
The abs pump in the Maxima is defective. It grinds and grinds and the light doesn't come on. The mechanics could not find what was wrong with the car until the sound was so loud, you could hear it from outside the car. The car is only a few years old and this should not happen. If you visit Maxima. Org, you can see on the forum that everyone with an '04 Maxima has an abs problem. This needs to be recalled and Nissan should fix these. This is over $1000 of work from the mechanic. We have owned 6 Nissans and this is the only time this has ever happened. It is very upsetting that Nissan will not acknowledge this problem.
Transmission slipped and vehicle surged forward striking a vehicle. Abs system faulted as I stopped.
I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima se that I bought 2 years ago with 14000 miles on it. Currently have 24000 miles so I don't drive a lot. In those 2 years, I've had struts, brakes, rotors,a/c problems, tons of anti-lock brake issues(was in shop 4 times) and at 19000 miles, a tire blowout and again another one at 24000 miles. I submitted my paperwork for cracked sidewalls on my goodyear rsa tires on July 1,2007 and have not heard anything yet. This car has been the car from you know where. It just has problem after problem--I get one thing fixed and something else seems to come up.
Problem with steering wheel shaking badly while braking. I was told I needed new tires at first soon after ownership. I bought this Maxima new in 2003 with about 10 miles on it. Couple years later had to take back to dealership for bad tires/cracking on the sidewalls. Had two new tires put on and had the rotors machined. Problem recurred almost immediately after having rotors machined with some improvement, but now the problem is worse than ever. Bought two more tires and was told to replace the rotors when I am going to replace the brakepads, which has already been done once. Fog light also had to be replaced while getting an inspection. Had to replace a battery which made my gas gauge fail/currently does not work. Put gas in every 300 miles so I don't get stranded on the road. Care runs badly and I feel very unsafe in this vehicle/considering getting rid of it as soon as possible. I believe Nissan should take this vehicle off the road before it seriously hurts somebody.
: the contact stated a recall letter was received in the mail 4/20/06. The NHTSA recall, # 05v512000, concerning seat: front assembly: power adjust. The dealer was notified on 4/21/06 to have the recall repaired. The dealer stated the first available appointment would be 4/26/06, however the contact believed this is not going to be remedied in a timely manor. Updated 5/16/2006 - the brake made noise and the tire deflated due to dry rot.
2004 and newer Nissan Maximas has a serious steering wheel vibration after 40mph. Nissan dealership says they are no complaints, but the internet if full of customers having this same problem. My car is 6years old but only has 34,000 miles. New tires, brakes, rotors, alignment multiply tire balances has not fixed this problem. On the internet customer have replaced struts, bearing,cv axles and problem still exist. This seems like a problem needs to be addressed.
