My 2005 Nissan Maxima v6 3. 5l a5 speed has some very serious problems with the transmission, when driving it after a while, the transmission jerks or kicks when placed in reverse or drive and the rpms rises suddenly or drops when driving it at a normal speed. The catalyst converter obd light also keeps coming on. We have seen countless of similar concerns posted on social networks and online websites regarding all 2005 Nissan Maximas having the same issues. This is not an isolated issue as we now know. We as consumers believe that the transmission design has a major flaw and that Nissan USA has been knowingly selling cars with such flaws. We need to have a government mandate to do a nationwide recall on this transmissions. Thanks.
Transmission jerks into gear and shifts like it could blow up or destruct at any moment while driving !.
I bought a 2005 Nissan Maxima about a year ago and the past couple of months (just right over 100k miles), I have noticed major jerking and pulling while driving or shifting gears. It is an automatic, but when I start to go, it takes it a few seconds to get in gear and jerks. I have heard many others have the same issue with 2004-2005 models. Are there any recalls as of yet? I have always heard great things about Maximas and do not want to have to replace my transmission, especially this early on! please help! thank you!.
At approximately 58,000 my vehicle started slipping and jerking. It gets stuck and doesn't move or will move at very high speed. It is dangerous to drive. When diagnosed by two different mechanics I was told it is a manufacture problem. Contacted manufacture and reported the problem.
When beginning to accelerate, transmission slipped. Issue worsened when accelerating or decelerating rapidly. Fluids changed regularly. Problem was intermittent at first. Has now become recurring. Upon review, it appears to be wide spread throughout the 2005 and 2006 year model with the aisin re5f22a 5 speed automatic transmission.
Transmission is slipping, especially at low speeds and when putting car into or out of reverse. When the transmission slips out of drive the engine revs and there is a sudden jerk. The car also jerks whenever switching from reverse to drive. The transmission failures are becoming more frequent. The car has 70k+ miles and research shows that transmission failure is a common problem with this car at this mileage.
My 2005 Nissan is jerking dangerously while shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. Almost caused an accident with my children in the car. Nissan knew about this problem when I bought the car less than a year ago and chose not to inform me just to make a sell. I believe that the tranny is defected and should be recalled and Nissan seems to refuse to help with this problem. I am concerned for my safety and spent 12,000 on the car now they are asking me to pay 4500 for the tranny. If this was told to me that this was a problem when the car was bought I would have went and brought a Honda instead. Rip off and danger alert to anyone that own this model vehicle.
The transmission on my 2005 Nissan/maxima is hard shifting when engine/transmissionis is hot, delaying take off and kicking extremely bad when picking up speed and the automatic transmission shifts gears. Two motor mount are already broken as a result of this problem. Nissan dealer recommended replace transmission. A transmission specialized shop inspected and tested the transmission for second opinion and did no find problem in the transmission, other than 2 bad sensors. Sensors was replaced and 6 months later the problem started again. *interior sunvisor lightning cover broken in both sides, driver's and passenger. Player not working, not playing. *original chrome wheels are corroded, breaking the seal on two of the tires causing pressure to lower and makes tire go flat in less than a week, if not attended soon.
I am told that I am experiencing problems with my transmission and engine. After careful research, and two mechanic opinions it has been told to me that Nissan knew that they had problems with this model of Maxima and has not owned up to this problem. Neither have they recalled or trying right their wrong. These items are the life of the car. I have also checked the reviews on edmunds. Com and there are several owners of this same car that have had the same issues and complaints. I would like to know what measures can be taken against Nissan for them own up to these defective components. It will hurt them in the long run if they do not. I will certainly make sure that the world knows about this and do not even attempt to purchase a Nissan. I only wish I had done this before I purchased this car.
Bought car brand new 9/2005. Car was serviced multiple times and even a Nissan engineer tested steering and suspension. When speed is at 60 mpr, steering wheel shakes. New tires were put on by dealership several times, also. Engineer stated that car was supposed to do that. Well now my car's transmission is acting up. Please note that steering wheel still shakes, too. I did a google search and see that numerous people are having the same issue. This car has to be a lemon. I will be contacting Nissan north America to file a complaint also and request that they repair my car.
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic for brake related repairs and the technician noticed that both of the motor mounts were fractured. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer regarding the problem. The approximate failure mileage was 90,000.
The transmission violently shifts up and down causing the car to jerk forward when at speeds ranging from 20-40, slowing down or accelerating up almost causing an accident. As well as slipping out of gear around 35-45 mph revving the engine then slamming into gear causing temporary loss of control. This is an extreme safety hazzard. Nissan Maxima problem yet Nissan won't help, please help myself and other Nissan owners before someone dies in an accident from a surging/slipping transmission. I just want this problem to go away.
I like many others am having the exact transmission "slipping, jerking" problems between 2nd and 3rd gear. The rpm's just jump right up under acceleration, the transmission slips then catches causing a jerking, lurching forward action. It is very dangeroua especcially coming on to a majon highway. Because of this I will not let my wife and children drive in the car. We cannot afford the quoted $3500 to $4000 to replace the transmission. Nor do we feel as if we should have to. We have owne this car since new. It has been very reliable but this is abusrd. Nissan needs to recall this model year and replace with corrected transmission before someone gets killed. Or is that what it's going to take to get them to acknowledge the problem.
Having problems with the transmission. It continues to jerk when shifting from gear to gear. It also slows down and has no acceleration.
Transmission, experiencing jerking when in 1st & 2nd gear. Even when im on the freeway when I slow down and try to speed up again my car will hesitate and jump into gear. I also was exiting freeway when my vehicle completely shut off, I could not stear, lucky for me there was no traffic behind me. I had both of my kids with me at the time!! I believe this is a huge problem and have heard many Nissan with the same problem. And the corporation is not doing anything to fix the problem. My vehicle barely reache 70,000 miles and im getting a transmission put in!.
My 2005 Nissan Maxima has been having a transmission problem since it reached about 69,000 miles. Right now the main problem it does, is that in drive it jerks between 1st and 2nd shift. It also jerks pretty hard when downshifting from 2nd to 1st. When the problem was starting to begin, it only affected from shifting from reverse to drive, but has moved to the crazy jerking it does now. At about 71,000 miles I had the car taken to a dealership and they couldn't find anything from using a code reader, but from just some simple shifting out of gears (park to drive, park to rev) they recommended a trans oil change (about $250) which I denied, because I looked a the oil myself and it was still cherry red, so that was too much to spend to just "to see if that fixes the problem". So at about 79,000 miles when the hard jerking started getting bad, I took the car to a different dealership ,which then they did recognize the problem, and told me it would be about $4000 to replace the transmission, which stunned me, especially cause I had just finished paying off the car and the warranty had ended. So I obviously I denied such a costly repair, but in talking to the mechanic at the dealership , I told him that the jerking problem isn't so bad at all when I use the manual gearshifts and I asked him why. Well he told me that problem could also be in the valve body which could be a cheaper fix,but they replace whole transmission units not parts, because of warranty purposes, but that he's seen quite a few similar problems with other vehicles. Since I told him it was too much for me to spend he recommended a trans repair center. So when I took it there, they confirmed that just changing out the vavle body would be a "bandaid fix" and that a full replacement would be needed (about $3500 from them). Now in reading other stories from people with the same problem as mine.
Transmission failure.
I purchased a new 2005 Nissan Maxima. Since then I have replaced the engine mounts 4 times. Now at 88,000, I am told I need a new transmission. I am 47 years and have owned many cars in my lifetime. I researched this topic and found many americans with similar transmission problems who own 2004-2005 Nissan Maximas. The car jerks forward when going from 2-3 gear, neutral to reverse and neutral to drive. Engines revs high when this is happening and jerks forward when driving. This is a public safety issue that has lead to accidents and engine fires. . Read more...
The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that the vehicle would jerk abnormally when driving 35 mph and above. When shifting gears, the vehicle would not respond for approximately five to ten seconds before engaging and the engine would exhibit an excessive increase in rpms. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who recommended having the valve body assembly replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and the manufacturer was not contacted in regards to the failure. The failure mileage was 92,000 and the current mileage was 97,000.
I bought this vehicle used with and it started jerking 2 months later. It has gotten to be really bad now! and very dangerous. I have read many many many people with the same problem. I dont want money or a new car, I just want my car fixed. Bad transmission.
I bought my used car from a local Nissan dealership with aprx. 74000 miles on it in Feb 2010. Shortly after I started feeling the transmission shifting roughly in the lower gears. I took it in to a reputable repair shop in June 2010 and they could not find any kind of diagnostic codes in the computer for the transmission, but told me the engine mounts were broken and needed replacing. I replaced the engine mount and also had them flush and put in fresh transmission fluid at that time as well. Again very shortly after I started feeling the transmission shifting roughly and it progressively got worse and even started slipping intermittently!! I took my car back to the repair shop and they could not find any codes again. I did some research online and found that hundreds of 2004 and 2005 Nissan Maxima owners were having the same exact problems!!! I have searched for any recalls, but there are none!! I took the car back to the dealership were I bought it from and spoke with the service manager and he stated that he has dealt with this issue with owners of this make, model ,and year!! I filed a complaint with Nissan and spoke with their consumer affairs dept, but the are not willing to help in any way. I believe, as well as hundreds of other owners, that Nissan knows about this defect, but is unwilling to issue a recall to the public!!! I think this is completely irresponsible and negligent on Nissan's behalf and has shattered my faith in their company.
2005 Nissan Maxima with less than 100k miles was taken to Nissan service shop and was said to need a part replaced in trans. And timing chain needs replacing along with motor mounts. After reviewing many websites this year make and model vehicle has 1000 with the same problem. Tried taking to 2 different Nissan reps and was told there was nothing they could or would do about their faulty product. . Would like to know what else or who else I could speak with about this matter. I have owned 4 prior Nissans and have never had problems and seeing that this issue seems to be in this vehicle I do feel that they are somewhat responsible.
Timing chain problem with 2005 Nissan Maxima. After having my transmission replaced (different complaint), the dealer told me that there was a known problem with the timing chain guides breaking and that my timing chain and corresponding parts needed to be replaced for $1600. I thought this was a problem because my car is not old and should not need this repair. I did research on the internet and found hundreds of cases with the same defect in Nissan Maxima's. I would like my complaint heard and a possible recall done if possible. This is clearly a Nissan defect and problem and not normal wear and tear on the car.
