1 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2017

Abs, trc, brake, stability light on, car jumps when braking and loud noise when breaking 25mph and lower. Dealer refuse to do the repair under warranty, this is a large problem for nisan owners. Cost of repair 2-3000. 00.

2 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/08/2016

Driving down the interstate, merging into the exit lane, I pressed the brake pedal to slow down to the light, as soon as I tap the gas pedal the car jumps out of gear and revs to approximately 6,000 rpm. Car then violently kicks back into gear, more than likely damaging all motor mounts and transmission mounts. It does the same thing when driving around small bends and taking turns. It put my car into limp mode in the middle of the street. This has been occurring for roughly the past 6 months.

3 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2015

Although the car looks beautiful, it's quickly becoming one of my least favorite vehicles I've owned. When I start going forward, I have to wait and be very patient on the gas pedal to make sure it shifts properly or it will jerk myself and small children in the back forward. I park in a ramp at work and on more than one occassion the car was downshifting as I turned a corner going up the ramp and I was slowing for a pedestrian and the car jerked forward and the pedestrian jumped and gave me a scared look. Not only is that entirely embarassing as an executive but it is a huge safety hazard on multiple levels. The car seems to jerk the most from 1-2 and 2-3 and visa versa. I noted electrical as an affected part because no matter how many times I set the mirror and seats, every time I use reverse, the mirrors move and click until I adjust them to where I need them.

4 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/18/2015

My car stalls and shuts off unexpected when at a stop, it also will not accelerate over 40 mph in traffic. I took it to a local auto store to test the (service engine soon) light, comes back with codes relating to the camshaft and crankshaft position sensors.

5 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 04/17/2015

My Maxima has been jerking and hesitating at low speeds. It is only when the car has been running for a bit and is warmed up. A few times it has slammed into gear so hard I thought I had been rear ended. It is so bad that I have to drive with my hazard light on. I'm afraid for my life and other drivers on the road. This problem shouldn't be taken lightly and I believe nissian should be held accountable.

6 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/20/2015

I had adequate clearance to back into a parking space in front of a building. I put my car in reverse, gently pressed on the accelerator, and without warning my vehicle took off like a missile. Within seconds the rear of my car was against the building and my front end was against the car parked in the next space. To say I was stunned is an understatement. Weather conditions were not an issue and I was of sound mind and body. I firmly believe some kind of mechanical defect (possibly with my vehicle's accelerator) caused the accident. I am 100% confident I did not press too hard on the accelerator. I am the original owner of this vehicle which I have driven for over 8 years (I'm also a repeat owner of this make/model) so I am very familiar with how it handles. It accelerated inappropriately resulting in over $7,400 of damages to my car alone.

7 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2013

My initial incident occurred sometime in December, after putting my vehicle in to gear (d) from park position it hesitated and then it felt as if my whole car jumped. I stepped on the gas to slowly accelerate and the cars engine revved up but the car did not move. It kind of scared me. It continued to do so on my drive home. It continues to do so off and on predominately when my car has had the opportunity to warm up. After doing some online research as to what could be causing the issue it seems that there are many complaints with this same matter. It is believed that the transmissions installed in Nissan Maximas are faulty and Nissan refused to do anything about this issue. It is very hazards to be driving like this and it is a very costly fix for a problem that should not be happening this early on or at all with a vehicle.

8 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/02/2013

Have taken the vehicle to the local Nissan dealership several times to have issues diagnosed and they would state there is nothing wrong. First started with having low and dirty oil and making a weird noise even after it has been serviced. Took the vehicle to a different place that the Nissan dealership said we should go. Their oil solution of royal purple synthetic oil did not work. Talked to the place where the vehicle was bought and because the warranty was expired they were unwilling to help. The vehicle currently has almost 108000 miles on it and have only owned it a year. I am afraid to drive the vehicle because of the hard shifting when driving and the slamming of the head against the head rest. It will slam into second, third and even fourth gear once it gets warmed up and take several seconds for the vehicle to engage and adjust the speed. I experience jerking coming from the rear while driving and recently while going from speed limits of 45 to 30 I felt a lose of power like it did not want to go. While parked it also slams into reverse and the first. I have a young son and this vehicle is defiantly not safe for him to drive in. I was told to replace the solenoids, timing chains, and to put a kit in it for the shifting issues. I also need to get an alignment done to address the shaking when going over 55mph. At this point the motor mounts probably need to be replaced. I'm still making payments on this vehicle and all warranties are expired. The air bags are also malfunctioning and the lights blink on and off this will cost up to a $1000 to have fixed. The check engine light also comes off and on but no codes show up. The rpm gauge gets stuck at 3 and you have to go over 40mph to get that gauge to work. Really don't want to have an accident because of the issues with the drive train and transmission.

9 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/16/2013

While casually driving, hands on steering wheel, foot on accelerator, asphalt road slightly damp but not wet, on a two way street with no reason to expect a sudden crisis, the aba brakes on my 2006 Maxima suddenly locked throwing the rear end of the vehicle into a slide facing oncoming traffic which at this time there happened to be none. When I felt the sudden action, which was like I had run into an invisible wall, I then hit the brakes attempting to stop the vehicle. The steering wheel seemed to float with no control of the direction headed. The car continued to accelerate instead of braking. This sent the vehicle back across to the right side of the road into a concrete curb and over into a grassy area before the car came to a stop. Only exterior minor damage from hitting a small sign post. Had it immediately towed to the dealer who road tested it but found no reason for the incident. They said there were no computer codes for what happened. I spoke to the service manager and called Nissan to explain what happened. They had no clue for why. I am still afraid to drive this car in heavy traffic for fear of a repeat. With such low miles and in the garage care over the years it is not time to trade it in.

10 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 10/01/2013

I was a proud owner of a 2006 Maxima but now I am very disappointed. About two months ago, my car started jerking when switching gears, accelerating, parking, and slowing down. I went to Nissan and they told me that my transmission had internal failures and needed to be replaced at $4200. 00!!! my car only has 73,000 miles should not need a new transmission. I looked on the internet and discovered that there are thousands of people who have had the same issues and have filed a class action lawsuit against Nissan because they know that their transmissions are messed up and they are trying not to own up to it. This is a safety concern because when it jerks violently or stalls, you lose control of the car which is very scary and terrifying. I will never buy another Nissan again!!!.

11 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 09/17/2013

When I'm driving slow in my 2006 Nissan Maxima, the rpms jump up to 3000. When I press on the gas it doesn't accelerate, the rpms just jump high. It mainly happens when I'm driving slow through residential neighborhoods.

12 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2013

Recent dangerous issues with my 2006 Maxima. Lately it has been jumping, or jerking when accelerating from a stop, or after mild braking. It is so sudden, feels like I may have been rear ended! I noticed two weeks ago a little jump in the rpms, but nothing too major. Routine maintenance and "everything looked good". That's what they always say. . Sat Aug, 2, 2013, turned into a residential area from a highway, my rpms jumped so high and my car seemed to almost stall or freeze, it jumped to rpm 6. I was so startled I stopped the car and turned it off. Later in the night it drove again fine. Two days later, after getting off the highway, my car did it again, up to 5, then a moment later up to 4-5. I then came to a four way stop and gently accelerated only for my car to freeze/jump/jerk again but this time all the way to 7. I had to drift off to the side of road and turn my car off again. Sat there for 20 min until trying to start engine and drive home, 3 miles from home, exiting a major highway. 10- 45 mph. Not catching the correct gear, or not receiving the fuel properly to the engine, inhibiting all driving abilities, speed and safety. Literally can feel it as a driver. Incredibly scary, supposed to be safe, expensive car. Do not want to be killed by a tractor trailer, all because Nissan won't take responsibility, claim a recall that is obviously a nation wide issue. 255 out of 375 complaints on this websites are for the power train of 2006 Maximas. Power train=that is 92. 7 % of the problem with 2006 Nissan Maxima. If that does not constitute fault, then what does? how many people have to be injured, or killed before this is recognized? disgusting, ashamed, pathetic. . Read more...

13 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2013

I recently purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima automatic transmission with roughly 47. 5k miles on it. When I am in traffic and accelerating and breaking constantly, my car jams into gear. When I go from drive to reverse and back again (parallel parking, 3-point turn) my car has trouble getting into gear and then finally slams into gear. Mostly happens in first 3 gears. I have researched online and noticed that this is a reoccurring problem with the valve body in Nissan Maximas, specifically 2006 models.

14 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2013

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving through a car wash with the gear in drive, the vehicle accelerated independently and crashed into a cement pole, and a parked vehicle. The contact sustained injuries to the neck and wrist. The police reported to the scene and a report was filed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and stated that an engineer would be sent to inspect the failure however, the engineer was unable to diagnose the cause of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed and towed to a salvage yard. The approximate failure mileage was 114,000.

15 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 11/26/2012

Abs comes on causing a grinding noise in in the front brakes reducing cars ability to stop safely.

16 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/27/2012

There are many incidents of erratic speed changes. More precisely, exiting from highway I slowed to near stop, light changed I accelerated and vehicles rpm increased then banged into gear and jumped into lane. Other examples when vehicle is put into drive or reverse it will hesitate then leap forward, this may not happen for awhile then next day it happens again. At times when decelerating vehicle will down shift then shift up causing erratic stopping distances.

17 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/10/2012

I was going through a stop sign, and after I stopped, I pressed the gas only to see the rpms shoot up without the vehicle moving for five seconds, then the car finally kicked into gear. This is very unsafe and this is not the first incident.

18 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2012

I brought my Maxima from a dealer on February 6, 2012 beginning at 61587miles the transmission has stopped engaging properly when accelerating between 1st & 2nd gear of the automatic transmission. This occurs between 20 and 35mph and causes the vehicle to slam into gear with a force that negatively impacts the my ability to control the car causing an unsafe driving event. It is as powerful as being hit from the rear while driving. It will drive fine for a few miles and start lurching again. The vehicle would jerk violently before stalling. After researching the issues I was having with this car, I found that it is common in 2005 and 2006 Maxima and Nissan has not recalled these models for these issues.

19 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2012

Car has a serious transmission issue and it seems like this is a common problem with 2006 Maximas. In lower gears and in reverse, car lurches violently and slips. When accelerating, car revs very fast, but gets no power. This is starting to happen more and more and I have been told I need a new transmission. This vehicle was bought new in 2006 and should not have transmission issues at 90k miles. Given the multitude of complaints about this exact problem on various automobile forums, Nissan should take steps to fix this problem.

20 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/01/2012

I am having a problem with my car jerking profusely when switching gears. It will do this as well when I come to a stop and then take off. There is something definitely wrong with this make/model/year vehicle. I love my car but after seeing throughout the internet alot of people having the exact same problem, I do not believe my next purchase will be a Nissan. The manufacturer should be recalling and fixing this issue. Maybe families that have lost loved ones while driving this vehicle should investigate the cause of accident a little further.

21 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/08/2012

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at 10 mph, the vehicle accelerated without warning. The contact mentioned that the failure was experienced several times. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the failure was unable to be duplicated. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 60,000 and the current mileage was 84,000.

22 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 02/01/2012

Car began to jerk forward in traffic, and upon going uphill would lose power, due to transmission jerking at speeds 35mph and up, rpm would redline at 55mph on freeway, which would cause traffic behind me to gain distance, leaving me no power to move or avoid them. Would jerk from reverse to drive out of driveway. Transmission sensors and trasmission were replaced total $3900. 00.

23 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/30/2011

My 2006 Nissan Maxima has been jerking very badly, and having trouble getting into gear. This happens everytime I drive, speed up, slow down, and reverse. Sometimes I can barely accelerate on the freeway. This happened at around 77,000 miles, which is past my warranty. I have an extended warranty that I paid for, but of course, the transmission is not covered totally, and I would have to pay a $500 deductible just to get it looked at, and maybe get it fixed. I've spoken to a mechanic and he told me I needed a new transmission. He also told me that he has had several complaints from fellow Maxima owners over the transmission, I also spoke to a service manager at a Nissan dealership. He asked me what car I had, as soon as I told him a Maxima, he said "it's the transmission right? they are all bad. " so if the Nissan people actually know there is something wrong with the transmission on the Maximas, then why are they not recalling them? I went online and saw numerous complaints from other Maxima owners about the same thing at several different forums, and consumer complaint websites. What is Nissan waiting for to fix this? are they waiting for someone to get killed before they decide that something needs to be done about their faulty equipment? I have two kids, and I do not feel safe driving that car, but I have no choice. It is my only car, and I can not afford to just replace a transmission every 20,000 miles. It's sad, and the fact that Nissan knows about this and chooses to do nothing is truly pathetic.

24 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 06/23/2011

I purchased a 2006 Nissan Maxima in February 2011. . When I purchased the car it appeared to be in good running condition. . There were a few visible problems such as the headlights, running light, power seats, or windows weren't working properly. . That problem was fixed and the owner agreed to fix the brakes and the remainder of the problems however almost a year later my anti brake light is still on & the dealership have not made any attempt to fix my car. 4months after having the car the speedometer stopped working and the odometer, the gas gauge goes back & forth, the service engine light remains on and the car jerks while driving and sometimes when shifting the car out of drive into reverse it jerks hard. I have quite a few friends who have Maxima's also and have the same problem with their cars. . It's obvious it's a defect with the transmissions, speed gauge & so many other defects with these cars. Somewhere there has to be someone who can help myself as well as others who are experiencing these problems. I have read far too many complaints about these particular cars. The cost to repair these cars are expensive & not to mention the cost to have your transmission replaced & on top of all that you are still responsible for paying your car note. Hopefully soon there will be a solution to this problem. Thanks in advance!!!.

25 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/14/2011

While driving home in rush hour traffic with my 2 kids in the car, at a stop light, my Maxima all of a sudden wouldn't shift into gear. The engine would rev, but no movement happened. I tried every gear and was able to get over from the far lane to a parking lot (while almost getting hit twice). My car was towed to the Nissan dealership where I was told that the car that I had only had since 06/2010 needed its transmission replaced. Thankfully we had bought the extended warranty. Well, 5 months later in may of 2011, my car started jerking badly when shifting and sometimes didn't want to go into gear when shifting from reverse to drive. Guess what, Nissan dealership said the last transmission (2nd one for the car that was 5 years old had 85000 miles on it)was defective and needed to be replaced. Again, it was under warranty because it had been less than 12 mths or 12000 miles on the last transmission they had put in the car. Shockingly, here it is, a little over 2 years later and guess what???? my car isn't wanting to go into reverse or drive without waiting for 30-90 seconds. Called the Nissan dealership and they are pretty sure the car needs a new transmission!!!!!! this will be the 4th transmission this 7 year old car has had. It has 125000 miles on the car, shouldn't it just be having transmission issues now???? OH and to top it all off, the car is no longer covered under the extended warranty and the Nissan won't cover the cost of replacing this transmission because it has been more than 12000 miles/12 mths since the last one was put in! something is definitely wrong with Nissan transmissions and I too will be sure to never purchase a Nissan ever again and will be sure to let all my friends know not to either!.

26 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 01/11/2011

The vehicle violently jerks. Takes up to ten seconds to shift into gear after changing from park to drive. When accelerating, the vehicle hesitates at first, then jerks forward as though someone has hit you from behind. When decelerating, the vehicle has a back-kick around the 20mph area. Lags during acceleration, does not engage or function properly.

27 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 05/01/2010

I bought the car brand new and have maintained this vehicle with 3k mile oil changes and replaced the tires. It has started to make jerk when shifting from 1-2 gear or 2-3 and recently the engines revs up to 4rpms but does not go any faster. Unfortunately my car is out of warranty but from looking around other blogs and forums it looks as this is quite a common problem. The engine is making a noise as if it is running on turbo. I don't understand why there is not a recall there is so many issues with this car its ridiculous. This is the first brand new car I have purchased and I cannot believe how many issues it has.

28 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 03/15/2010

Vehicle started showing warning lights and responding sporadically, working smoothly then failing in various manners including: failing to accelerate after stopped at traffic light, lost power when exiting highway, lurched while driving on interstate, lights failed then turned back on, flashing failure lights, loss of fuel errors, others. Investigation revealed that a faulty design in the car computer housing and location made it possible for dimes to fall from the dash into an opening, which appeared to be a test port, in the computer causing shorts resulting in the sporadic behavior and ultimate complete failure of the unit. The mechanic was able to find technical publications that documented this known defect and the associated dangerous implications.

29 Vehicle Speed Control problem

Failure Date: 08/23/2007

The contact owns a 2006 Nissan Maxima. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle accelerated independently. The failure recurred numerous times. The vehicle had not been repaired. The failure and current mileage was 99,000.
