1 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/31/2018

I no there was a volunteer recall on a couple different parts of this car , yet looking at the VIN number doesnt show a recall now. I bought my 5th gen Maxima and since then ive had to replace the camshaft sensors in it now 3 times an even gotten new connectors installed to fix the problem. Ive had my car just suddenly die in traffic as im driving or soon as you try to accelorate it dies and is hard to restart. . Its frustrating to love the car and cant ever seem to get it right. , it always seems to have a problem. I monitor Nissan's website to see if they have any TSB's when I have an issuse an normally I find theres something from few years back that had a recall for it.

2 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2006 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 07/29/2017

Bought car one year ago at 120000 miles. After 2 mos, car started jumping while pressing acceleration and then began to just stop while I was driving. Engine light came on , had camshaft position sensors replaced. Less than 2 mos later, car was starting to stall again, accelerator still making the car stall. Had fuel system checked, was fine. Then my engine light came on again, now saying camshaft position timing needs to be replaced. Mechanic told me this is the most common problem he sees in Nissan vehicles. Should be a recall on the timing chain if the problem is so common. I ran into a ditch twice and very nearly was in an accident when my car cut off while I was turning at a busy intersection. I couldn't turn the wheel and nearly crashed! this has happened numerous times. I reported the issue directly to Nissan but since no accident was reported I did not receive any help or advice from them.

3 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 04/28/2016

In sept. 2014, my car was in for service and recall number "03v455000" was performed. The 2 camshaft sensors and 1 crankshaft sensor were to all be replaced. In April 2016, my car was experiencing problems with all 3 sensors. My car would stop at any moment (stopped or driving). I've been in many intersections or the interstate and it'll die on me and take a long time to crank back up. I had to pay over $120 at the dealership to get the diagnosis. Upon looking at my recall paperwork, only the crankshaft sensor was replaced. When bringing that info to dealer, they claimed it was a kit that included all 3 sensors. Every single internet search, including Nissan's own public parts website, says that part # 23731-al60c is a single crankshaft sensor and could not prove that their internal/private parts system claimed it was a kit. I them reached out to the Nissan recall number (1-800-647-7261) listed on the recall to explain the issue with all the sensors not being replaced. After a few calls, my info was routed to a regional associate. I asked her if she needed to explain the story to her and she said she didn't. After 5 days, the regional associate called me back and explained to me that she reached out to the dealership and said that Nissan is agreeing with the dealership and cannot assist me any further. She could see the work information, but seemed simply sided with the dealership without any further info or questioning me for a better understanding.

4 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/05/2015

I recently had a diagnostic done on my vehicle because I had been having issues with my car engine would get a little hot, it would also cut off on me while driving without notice, I had a couple diagnosis done and all pointed to my camshaft sensor, in was in the national data base as a recall, but base in north american Nissan my VIN# is eligible for that campaign thus will not help fix an issue I've already had to repair more than once. They've told me because I haven't had my car service by them the whole time I've owned my vehicle they would not help. I am very upset that this is the result I got after contacting north american Nissan directly and they wouldn't do anything. Based on the recall issue could be very dangerous and cause an accident in which I have been very lucky when ever I am driving, no cars end up crashing into me from behind.

5 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/24/2014

As verified by an independent mechanic, the camshaft sensor shut the car down during operation on the highway. I was advised that this specific problem was the subject of a recall in 2003 (notice of which was never given to me) and I found two independent internet references to a recall for this specific problem (recall #33403), one of which contained a range of affected VIN's that included my car. I sent the information to Nissan with the supporting documentation but was summarily rejected on the basis that my VIN simply did not appear on their computer. I asked if it was because the recall was in 2003, but did not receive a reply. Nissan refused to replace the defective part(s); consequently, I had the work performed by an independent mechanic. Hence, the question: is this 10-year old (apparently voluntary) recall enforceable by the nhtsb? Nissan could obviously not care less.

6 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2005 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 08/03/2014

I have had my 2005 Nissan Maxima for about 5 months now. For the past three months it's has been extremely hazardous. It turns off while I'm driving it and I lose all power power steering, brakes, etc. I almost drove into the river yesterday because it shut off going around a turn and I was almost rear ended. My car starts acting up after it warms up about 5 minutes after start. It will shift very hard and is fine once it is past 3rd gear but it takes a while to get to third when it starts to mess up the rpms will go up to 4 and 5 through 1st and 2nd gear. When you're going downhill it will downshift like you slammed on the brakes. Also if you switch over to manual it will say you're in 5th gear and really you're in 1st. The service engine diagnosis reads a code for the cam shaft sensors. I have changed both of them bank 1 and bank 2 and it did not fix anything. Nissan has failed to do anything and it's happening to a ton of cars. If I'm on the highway and my car shuts off, it not going to be a good situation. If you take it to Nissan they try to get you to buy a new transmission. I have a two year old and the jerking of the car or anything for that matter is not safe for her or anyone else on the road. Thank you for taking your time to review this, I approciate it.

7 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2003 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/15/2014

My 2003 Nissan Maxima gle has had the check engine light, the abs and the tsc lights coming on. I took it to my local dealer who ran diagnostics on it and said it was the crankshaft sensor which I had already replaced due to an intermittent problem with the speedometer quit working, or that I needed to replace the entire instrument package. As I am fairly mechanical (father was a master mechanic) this did not seem logical to me. The speedometer has now quit working completely and the tachometer is now having intermittent problems. I have also changed the camshaft sensors. The problem seems to be more electrical than mechanical--instruments only record what sensors send to them. It has now started dying in traffic which scares me as I am afraid I will have an accident. The dying in traffic problem is getting worse. So far I have been able to hit my flashers and struggle to glide it off the edge of the road to a stop when it happens until I can get it started again. Some times it is very difficult to start and sometimes it will start right back again. I have ruled out moisture in the gas has I have run several containers of heet through the gas tank the last two months. When I asked the dealer if they had seen other vehicles with the same or similar problems they said no. I asked them if my car model had had any recalls and they said no again. Due to a search on the internet I have discovered that recall #03v455000 had been issued for my model year Nissans that were having this same problem with the engine dying due to soldier flux on variable timing control sensor. Please advise if my car is covered by this recall ASAP as I am afraid I might have an accident due to the car dying and everything locking up when it does.

8 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 09/09/2013

I have a 2004 Nissan Maxima. When I was driving, the steering locked up and there was no way to steer. I don’t know how I did it, being petite and not so strong, but I managed to make the car move to the side, then it turned off automatically. I tried to turn on the car and it didn’t start. I had to wait a few minutes and turn the key for a few seconds until the engine restarted. It becomes extremely difficult to pull over to the side, and I was saved the 5-7 times this happened to me. Luck was on my side! I didn’t drive my car on the freeway, because I was terrified my car would stall and my son and I would die in a terrible car accident. I finally had to go to my shop and replace the two camshaft sensors with the following codes p3040 and p0345. With some searching, I found out that I’m not the only one with this issue. I stand by the former complaint: ‘I found out that Nissan has a recall on altima’s with this same issue, but will not cover and recall my vehicle. This is very dangerous and I do not understand why they would only recall certain makes when it is the same exact error code on both vehicles. It is a p3040 and p0345 cam sensor/cam shaft recall through Nissan. However, they say my make and model does not fall under this recall. Shouldn't they recall all vehicles with this same problem?’ thank you for your help in this safety issue.

9 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 01/29/2013

The car had a recall performed on 08/02/2011 to replace crankshaft and camshaft position sensors, the car ran perfectly before the said recall. The mentioned recall also included an earlier recall which was ineffective. Some time after the recall was performed the car would stall intermittently without triggering a code. Finally the stalling triggered a code on 01/29/13 which was a crankshaft position sensor. The dealer confirmed that the crankshaft position sensor code was triggered but denied that it had anything to do with the stalling problem and returned the car with the intermittent stalling condition without a diagnoses. Eventually the car was diagnosed as a bad crankshaft position sensor and repaired on 11/08/2013 after two more visits to the dealer and numerous calls to Nissan north America. This was very same crankshaft position sensor installed by the recall #r3022 which was bad and in effect renders recall #r3022 (Nissan) ineffective, at least in my case. Nissan refused to pay for diagnoses and repair of the failed recall. This failed recall cost me $656. 08 as well as endangered many lives. Note: the car only has 26,000 miles on it.

10 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2002 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 02/19/2010

Problem related to cam position sensors (cam shaft sensor and possibly vias sensors). This intermittent failure, causes the car to buck. Often this will cause the car to stall. This issue is prominent with a large percentage of Nissan Maxima 2002 owners as well as a number of additional Nissan years and models (murano, altima). The frequency of the issue occurring for Nissan owners as well as the severity - stalls have occurred for me us at any time including middle of intersection and also on the highway resulting in some very close calls and potential upcoming accidents. Nissan's negligence in recalling and fixing this problem, is likely to lead to accidents and loss of life. The Nissan dealer has not responded to my direct requests to please fix the issue as they will only do this if Nissan issues a recall. Please look into this, this is an extremely frequent and expensive repair for Nissan owners. People's lives are at risk if this is not addressed and this is the avenue that the northeast Nissan rep said I need to take to start the recall process.

11 Camshaft Position Sensor problem of the 2004 Nissan Maxima

Failure Date: 11/02/2009

My disaster: first while driving, the car shut off. I was left with no power anything (steering, brakes, etc). Luckily I was able to pull onto a side road. The local shop said I needed a new electronic control module (ecm) or onboard computer. Had to then tow it to the dealership for programming. I was still getting a mis-fire and it was a result of 6 bad coils which are believed to have created the bad computer. On top of all this, I needed to replace my cam shaft sensors because they were damaged. To summarize: bad coils lead to burning of my ecm, which in turn destroyed my cam shaft sensors = $2700!!!.
