Attempting to leave after work, my car would not start. I noticed that there was a flashing yellow light and I plugged that into google. It appeared that it was the steering lock control mechanism and it was common for this to fail. I had to get my car towed from work to the nearest dealership where the charge was $900 for the part and $250 for the service. Doing research, I noticed that this part was recalled for 2009 altimas. I bought my car in 2009, but it was a 2010 model, so it is my assumption that this was made with these 2009 parts. This part is vital apparently, as it causes all of the electrical components with the starter to disable. I feel fortunate that I was not traveling as I would have been stranded. It feels that Nissan is aware of this issue, however, they are not fixing it and charging a large amount of money for the part alone. This is extremely unsafe for users of Nissan's to not be aware of this issue and not have this part fixed immediately. Nissan should do their part and offer a replacement for free so individuals have faith in using their services again.

When vehicle was approximately 1 1/2 years old the positive battery connector connecting the power cable from the automobile electrical system to the battery corroded and came apart. The Nissan part description and part number is "battery terminal 243 - part # 24340-7f003). This was replaced with a factory part. Approximately 1 1/2 years later it corroded and came apart again. This failure causes the engine to loose any electricity from the battery, which would cause the engine to stop, causing a loss of power steering, power brakes and air bag protection or prevents the engine from starting due to no electricity feeding the starter and vehicle electrical system. Fortunately, the vehicle was not moving when this failure occurred on either occasion or serious injury or death could have occurred. I do not believe that the design of this connector or the type of material from which it s made is adequate. I have replaced the connector with a lead battery connector used for connecting RV batteries and do not believe that the vehicle will ever suffer this problem again with the aftermarket replacement connector. Fortunately for me the vehicle was stopped when these failures occurred. Other than the obvious danger, I believe this problem would cause most people to incur significant expense in towing and repair charges, just to replace the connector. Although I was able to repair the problems myself, I doubt that most people would be able to do so on their own. The parts sales person at the Nissan dealership where I had bought a second connector (although it was not used) seemed to indicate that they sold an awful lot of these connectors, which suggests that a better design or material would be advisable and make it much less likely that a failure of this nature would occur.

In the beginning I noticed it took me a couple times to start vehicle and it would loose power at certain stops or when I slowed down or came to a stop. And as time I felt it jerk and pull at times when I was not driving too fast this continued and then it was one day that it does not want to start up, new starter, new battery, tune up and it just wont start. I am just waiting to see if they find out what the problem is.

My car is a Nissan Maxima 1998, it has 120k miles on it. This is my only mean of transportation; recently the car just wont start. I have to keep trying several times until it starts. I recently replaced the starter but the problem still happens. I have been reading different internet forums there is a lot of people complaining about this kind of problems, the dealers charge about $1,000. 00 to replace the ignition coils. This since to be the source of the problem, I do not have this money. I think because on behave of all people having to deal with this problem, there should be a recall on this cars.

I own a 1997 Nissan Maxima gle. In the last 4 months I have replaced the alternator twice, the starter and the battery twice. Something is defective with the charging system. The battery light and brake light keep coming on repeatedly especially when the car travels more than 10-20 miles. I have had the car stall out with a dead battery 5 times and each time I have had to have a jump start or change the battery once. Something is draining the system.
Anyone can spend just a moment of time on the internet and find that Nissan Maximas from 1999 to 2003 , perhaps a lengthier time period, mine is a 1999. Have major problems with ignition coils and starters. Yet no recall has ever been issued! I have seen hundreds of consumer websites of people reporting these problems with coils and starters. I just had to replace starter and coils. Some people report replacing them every 10,000 - 20,000 miles!!! this is a pricey repair at about $1000 to $1500 per event! please urge Nissan to recall these defective parts and refund those who have had to pay for this service.

Car initially had trouble starting. The car later would not start at all; towed to serice dealer. I also noticed a problem with the front right suspension. It is making a noise with each bump in the road or when a left turn in made.
On going / intermittent problem with engine stalling, usually it occurs when accelerating from a stop postion or accelerating from a low speed. Vehicle been in / out of dealer shop on five occasions, and problem still reoccurring. Dealer replaced front timing covers, gaskets, intake manifold collector, coil packs, plugs, and performed throttle chamber service, now vehicle has an oil leak. Transmission failed and was replaced. Starter motor failed and was replaced.
