My vehicle does not respond to depression of the gas pedal. It does this spontaneously, which is dangerous when making a left hand turn through an intersection with oncoming traffic. I took my car to a resturant last night and when we left to come home the vehicle would not travel at speeds over 10mph. We had to turn the vehicle off and back on at all stop signs/lights in order for it to go at all after making a stop. Immediately drove the vehicle straight home, after research found out that many people have the exact same problems with their early year Nissan Muranos. Nissan needs to do a major recall and own up to their mistake before someone's life is taken as a result of their faulty mechanics. My car has approximately 155k miles on it.
Under normal driving conditions my 2004 Nissan Murano becomes unresponsive to the throttle in stop and go conditions. The vehicle then suddenly surges as the accelerator is depressed further causing the driver to quickly slam on the brakes to avoid collisions. This creates unexpected dangerous conditions.
I am owing a 2004 Nissan Murano with 100125 miles on it. 2 days back while driving on a freeway, the SUV suddenly lost it's acceleration power and now when ever I try to apply the acceleration after stand still, the car does not move for 5 seconds and then suddenly moves forward. This is a serious hazard as it could lead to accidents on highways and I consider myself to be lucky that I was able to pull over. I have read lot of forums where many Nissan Murano customers are having the same issue. I contacted the Nissan dealer and they are saying this is not an issue with Nissan's transmission. I would definitely consider this a Nissan issue as many customers are having the exact issue. Requesting your help in resolving this issue. Thanks, manoj.
Slip vdc off light came on all the time of and on. . Engine light couple of times I have being to service to Nissan . . And always come up with different story. Now the car wont even start today will two it again tomorrow!.
When pushing down on the accelerator, the car does not accelerate smoothly and at some points doesn't accelerate at all and looses power. It occurs in frequently. I had to replace the valve body that cost $1800k.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. While driving the vehicle in heavy traffic at a low speeds ranging from 10 mph and engaging the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to increase in speed. The rpm's were high and all of the gauges moved up; however, the vehicle would not move forward. Within minutes, the vehicle suddenly accelerated at a rapid speed. The failure almost caused the driver to crash into another vehicle. This defect only occurred while driving at low speeds or in an idle position. The dealer performed a diagnostic test and was unable to determine what caused the failure to occur. The dealer diagnosed the failure a second time and was unable to make any repairs. On the third attempt to diagnose the failure, the dealer asked the contact to drive into heavy traffic and they were still unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle is currently at the dealer. The contact stated that the failure is related to a manufacturers defect. The VIN was not available. The failure mileage was 120,000 and the current mileage is 140,000.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. The contact noticed that the vehicle was losing power while driving at an unknown speed. A few seconds later, the vehicle regained power. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they replaced the battery and alternator; however, the vehicle still did not have power. The dealer stated that the transmission also needed to be replaced at the estimated cost of $5,000. A report was filed with the manufacturer (number 6529588) and they stated that they would call the contact back. The current and failure mileages were 78,000.
The cvt transmission went out in my 2004 Murano with 70,000. Prior to it going out I was experimenting unexpected acceleration and deceleration from the transmission. When approaching a stop light I let off the accelerator only to have the vehicle to accelerate before slowing down.
Two main problems with my 2004 Nissan Murano. . . . Biggest is brake problems. Brake pads and rotors have been replaced twice and there is still a noise when braking along with bad vibration when slowing down. The vibration can be felt in the steering wheel. Also, there is a clinking noise in the engine when taking off at slow speeds. It sounds like the motor is going to drop. This has been to expensive to fix, so I continue to drive it as is. Very unhappy with the quality of this vehicle. Many repairs including small that aren't worth having the vehicle. No dealer wants to take as trade in.
2004 Nissan Murano, 71,000 miles. Sudden catastrophic failure of the drive train. No warning, no indicator. Car was gently driven.
The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that after stopping and depressing the accelerator pedal the vehicle did not accelerate. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer where a leak in the transmission was diagnosed. The contact was advised to replace the throttle body and catalytic converter. The vehicle was repaired but the failure continued. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but did not offer any assistance because the vehicle was not included in any recalls. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 120,000.
My 2004 Murano is now clocking 80,000 miles. I notice a problem within the last 20,000 miles whenever I get stuck in stop and go traffic. I would step on the gas and nothing would happen for a few seconds and suddenly it takes off. I had to slam on my brake to prevent smacking into the car in front. This problem continues throughout the stop and go traffic ordeal. My dealer informed me that he is not aware of this problem and suggested a transmission service. This problem has continued but always after driving the car for a while or when I am in stop and go traffic. This is a safety issue. I understand from the dealer that it is a pressure sensor problem that is typical for model that I have. The problem is the cost repair is half of the value of the car.
While driving my 2004 Nissan Murano the vehicle would not accelerate in traffic and was forced to coast to the side of the road and restart the vehicle. My 8 year old son was with me and this could have caused an accident and injury. Superior Nissan, where I purchased the care less than 5 months prior, said that the transmission valve body and cam lobe sensor was going bad. The vehicle has only 67,000 miles on it. The dealer refused to stand behind their product and quoted us a cost of $2200 to repair. After reading hundreds of similar complaints on the internet, I feel that Nissan should be forced to recall all Murano models with the cvt transmission and repair them. This is a know problem and they are ignoring the fact they put out a defective product that could cause injuries or deaths.
The transmission causes the engine to stall when stopping at a light, then jerks.
Car started to jerk forward when I was 2 hours into a 3 1/2 hour drive. This occurred when I came upon heavy highway traffic, and had to idle in traffic. Temperature outside was about 98 to 100 degrees, and the car was not overheating (no smoke/temp gauge was normal). Later on into the drive, the car began to jerk forward and cut out at stop lights. I had to turn the car off at the stop light then turn it back on to get the car to drive. Later on in the day, the car got progressively worse. It started to make a laboring/whining sound and would not accelerate beyond a particular speed or respond to the gas pedal. Eventually, turning the car off then on did not work. The car would drive about 20 feet then would not accelerate, then coast to a stop. I had to be towed from philadelphia to virginia because there were no Nissan shops, nor auto shops open during that time of a Saturday. Sunday would not have been a business day for mechanics either. I live in virginia.
Leasing a Nissan Murano 2004. I had the transmission replaced at 26k and now at 100k the dealership is telling me that it needs to be replaced again. A transmission should last the life of the vehicle.
2004 Nissan Murano would periodically not shift from neutral into reverse or park. This problem began to appear about 2 years ago. Sometimes the problem lasted for a day or two sometimes for a week or more. It only happened in the winter. The first 2 times I brought it to the dealer they could not find any problem. There is a work around (bypass) for the reverse lockout problem in the owner's manual so the manufacturer was aware of a potential for trouble. About March 2010 the problem appeared and did not disappear. I brought it to the dealer they had the car for 2 days and could not identify the cause. They recommended replacing the entire shifter. I requested they disconnect the lockout mechanism. They said they couldn't because it was a safety device. So I told them it should be repaired at no cost to me. About a year ago I filed a complaint regarding this problem with Nissan. I asked the dealer to talk with Nissan and gave them the complaint file #. Nissan said the vehicle was no longer under warranty so I had to pay for the repair. My internet search indicates there is a problem with the reverse lockout on the 2004 Murano that was covered by Nissan in most instances but there is no TSB on the issue and Nissan says it is normal wear and tear.
On two occasions within two weeks the car would not respond to the accelerator. The engine would rev up, but the car would not move. Then without warning, the car will go "into gear" and move. After two weeks the problem occurred again. Car would lose drive train power, but all other functions, radio, ac, steering would still work. The car simply would not go when the accelerator was pressed. Then the transmission would work all of a sudden and then quit all of a sudden.
I have a 2004 Nissan Murano and have experienced several problems to date. First, after about one year of ownership the idler pulley bracket cracked (2/21/06) and had to be replaced. For the last year the brakes have squeaked and when brought to the dealership they reported they could not find a problem. Currently (9/02/07) I am experiencing the same idler pulley bracket problem and will have to take the care in to be serviced and inconvenienced once again.
Issue with 2004 sl Murano. At 68k miles, felt a shudder and vibration in steering wheel, without warning. Took it to mechanic where car died while going in reverse. Took it to transmission specialist who could not diagnose issue. Towed car to Nissan dealership. Another "diagnosis" performed and confirmed transmission was issue. No specific reason give. New transmission ordered, but turned out to be defective. Car would not go in reverse. Nissan confirmed that they knew about this issue. Replacement transmission sent and installed. Rude service from dealership, no help from Nissan customer "specialist. " new transmission cost was $6000 (parts and labor). Had no option but to put new transmission, because Nissan does not rebuild old transmissions.
: the contact stated while traveling 25 mph on dry normal road conditions, the vehicle stalled, and was able to be restarted. The vehicle stalled again, after traveling 10 yards. It was towed to the dealership, who performed a diagnostic, and determined that the alternator needed to be replaced. The check engine and battery light were illuminated prior to the incident. The stalling recurred a year later on 07/17/06 while traveling 30 mph. The check engine light was illuminated prior to the incident. The vehicle was restarted and driven to another dealership, who replaced the throttle meter. This corrected the problem. On 10/24/06, the problem recurred while traveling 30 mph, and was towed to another dealership, who could not service the vehicle due to lack of parts needed for the diagnostic. The vehicle was towed to another dealership, who determined the automatic transmission was defective, and was replaced. This remedied the problem. The contact wrote a complaint letter to the manufacturer and dealer on 10/29/06, but had yet to receive a response. Updated 12/28/2006 -.
Vehicle would not accelerate, maximum speed = 20 mph. Stopped shifted to low same result. Parked turned engine off, returned 20 minutes later. Vehicle ok, but check engine light is on. Next day Nissan service could not find a problem, said it was a "soft" code.
Transmission for a 2004 Nissan Murano failed at 13,000 miles.
Bought 2004 Murano 31 Jan 2005. Drive vehicle to/from work each day, 740 per week. By may had put 12,000 miles on car. One day started my car, the service engine soon (ses) light came on and the car was sluggish. Turned off the engine and back on, sluggishness diminished, light remained. Took car to dealership, light went off just prior to bringing in. Was told the light was because gas cap not on tight enough, so shop did an oil change. Few weeks later, light came on again, brought to another shop. Said it was problem with the throttle control system, that it would take days to get a part & they could not give loaner or rental. Husband consulted owner of dealership who suggested repair team take the part off a 2004 car on the lot to fix mine immediately. Over the next two months, the ses light came on 3 more times. The 1st time was told it was just "old codes. 2nd time, cleared codes and told me not to worry about ses light. Car would not pass inspection with ses light on, so when it came on 3rd time day before inspection, returned to the dealer and was told the throttle control needed "adjusting". Got the car inspected. 6 days later, ses light came on again when leaving work to drive 74 miles home, sluggishness that prompted first throttle repair returned. Could not reach or maintain speed of the flow of traffic. Car at shop since 05 Aug 2005 because of "problem" with throttle control in series of 2004 Muranos that mine came from. Thereã‚s a new part needed, my volume of driving made it appear. Technical bulletin or notice to consumers needed. When folks hit 13,000 miles problem will appear and part will be on order (there are many vehicles with problem). Was told part would ship from Nissan 19 Aug 2005 & might get my car back next week. Dealer covering rental car. Dangerous problem because the car will not "shift" (or cvt equivalent) & the car tacs out over 4000/will not accelerate without warning.
