I’ve changed the timing belt, brakes, batteries, fuel injectors and all and still after thirty minutes of me driving Nissan Murano 2004 I have to continuously push on the gas to get the car to move . My car always has a smell of burning rubber after a long period of time driving it . I then pull over for 20/25 minutes to let the car reset or cool down I guess and then when I turn it on it drives ok until the next 25/30 minutes go by. I’ve gotten two alternators brand new and I’m still having the same issues . When I slow down to come to a full stop it feels like my car is jerking on a chain slowly. When I put the car in neutral to come to a stop it doesn’t make the car tremble . I hope and pray I can get some answers or help to guide me in the right direction . I’ve spent over $2000 in labor to this car to still have the same problem.
Alternator went out this is the third one. I looked up the recalls on my car and there happened to be one on the alternator and I’ve reached out to Nissan dealership of bakersfield and havnt received a response.
Car stalls out without warning. I have lost brake and power steering. Can cause a wreck.
The vehicle keeps dying when I put it in drive, it automatically dyes out. I have the alertnator replace and it keeps dying out. I already spend close to 487. 00 for the peice, getting it towed to the shop and getting it fix. The alternator still dies out.
I have put 4 alternators on in last 4 months and now it is stuck in security immobilize mode and won't do nothing this safety moad is 3 time it's done it and we can't get it out it won't even get fuel to start because of being stuck in security mode and the key fob works when it wants to and when it went into this mode it was parked but running and I had to tow it home and it's getting pretty expensive.
My wife was leaving the house I was in the driveway when she left . I noticed the right rear tire was toe out thought it was just me . When she returned it was toe out on right side and toe in on left side. Pulled right rear tire off upon further examination found the sub frame to be rotted thru at the latteral arms. I had to clean area as best as possible to weld a small steel plate to it so my wife could still go to work ,good thing we a few miles away so she drove on city streets to stay off highway due to speeds. Now the car sits in the back yard, removed plates car is useless for scrap and to much to pay for repairs. Waiting to see if Nissan is going to make right with this issue, to issue a recall. That way after the recall I can re-register the vehicle.
My car doesn't have automatic door locks, for 3 times now my doors have locked while running and the doors were closed. My car locked my grandson, which is 6 years old in, and the last time was yesterday on 10/09/2019. My husband had to break the window to get in the car. This is a serious hazard. My doors aren't suppose to be locking themselves. I need answers for this situation.
I was driving on my way home, on the highway at about 65mph. When it started to slow down even when I was stepping on the accelerator. Then it suddenly started to work again properly. My home was 20 min or so from where I started driving. During this time the same thing kept happening of the speed slowing down and not going up even when pressing on the accelerator for a good 4-5times. Until suddenly the engine stopped working. Thankfully I was able to make a safe pull over on the highway. A mecnic came to see it and told me it's a bad alternator. After looking online I saw that this has happened to many Nissan Murano owners! it's so dangerous because it just starts to happen randomly. I got lucky like I mentioned and was able to make a safe stop. I can only imagine if I didnt. I was pregnant and had both of my toddlers in the car!! I think this should be a recall if it's because the alternator was installed defective to begin with. I called Nissan and the lady I spoke to was no help at all she said because my car is so old there's not much they can do about it!? seriously! I have had other cars same as old or a few years newer and that never played a important role on having the recall honored because it's somehing that makes the car unsafe and it was because of a faulty part etc.
Brake light warning light comes on, at the same time as the battery light. Car looses power and when I step on the gas it will not move. This is very dangerous. I see a recall for this year, but being told not my vehicle. Well it is my vehicle in which it is happening to.
I have a 2004 Murano and the drivers side sun visor will not stay up. You will be driving down the road and it falls down in your face and blocks your vision. Just today I was driving 70 down a 6 line interstate and it fell down multiple times. Me being 5'8" when it falls it completely blocks my view and the car in front of me had slammed the brakes due to an object in the rd and I was nearly involved in a wreck due to this faulty sun visor. Something needs to be done to fix these before someone is killed due to it. And I know I am not the only one having this problem. Can someone advise what I can do?? Nissan please help before your faulty sun visor is the death of me.
Door lock actuators.
I was driving my car on the highway for about 15 miles. Once I exited the highway and stopped my car did not want to accelerate. It stalled until I approached my destination. I tried putting transmission fluid in the vehicle as it read it was low which is odd because it hasn't been a month since I've gotten an oil change. So much difficulty getting up hills. Once I'm able to get going the car would accelerate, however once im at a stop it takes over 15 seconds to actually pick up speed. This has happened multiple times while driving which is extremely dangerous to myself and other drivers. This seems to be a known issue in older model Muranos that has yet to be recalled. I have no warranty left on the vehicle which means I am at a lost. I've only had this vehicle for 6 months and I've kept up on all oil changes and keep up with the vehicle. This faulty cvt nearly cost me and my children's life. They really should fix this issue as a part of a recall.
The problem is with accelerate control for nothing I can speed up because the don't run. .
The sun visor doesn't stay up and falls down, blocking my vision (an obvious danger). This is apparently a very common problem with the 2004 Murano yet Nissan will not cover a fix.
Just got this Murano. The other day went to go take off from a light. And the Murano wouldn't go anywhere. Finally limped to side of the road, turned the car off, turned car on, was fine for a day or two. After driving to grocery store, left parking lot. Stopped at light. Went to take off and wouldn't even rev up, I had a baby and a small child in my car, car behind me had to go up on sidewalk in order to avoid hitting me. This is now have has become a safety issue when it happenes I have to floor it for about 15 seconds before it engages the throttle. Have read that it can be everything from a bad ground, cvt failure, transfer case failure, or the ipdm or ecm is fried. Mechanic can't narrow it down to what the problem is. Nissan want to charge me over $100 just to diagnose if they can. And from what I've read they won't even do much better than suggest changing out the transmission for a cost of $6,000. Why am I changing transmission on a car that has less than a hundred thousand miles? I am really disappointed, my family has owned datsun/nissans forever. My dad still has his 76 280 z. My mom still has her 79 280 z 2+2. My mom also has her 95 Nissan hardbody, which has been through hell and never once has had a problem. I have been a fan of Nissans forever because of the reliability and ease in which you can fix them. I am severely disappointed with Nissan for not covering the problems or recalling all the problems with the Murano. My family myself and my friends have now officially decided to boycott Nissan, they have now lost life-long customers. On a side note. Electronic throttles or fly by wire, is the dumbest thing in the world. If you have a burnt out bulb no throttle, chance of accident greater than 90%. Faulty stereo, no throttle chance of accident greater than 90%. Am I the only one whom sees a bad pattern here?.
Vehicle stopped while driving. Car was still running but would not move. Took it to the Nissan dealership and they said it was the transmission and the main problem with the Murano is the universal serious problem with the cvt transmission and transfer plate which costs $4600 to replace. The technician said Nissan will not fix the problem, I have to buy/replace the transmission.
Traveling on the intrastate and the vehicle lost power, no acceleration to the vehicle. The engine revved but no response. In the meantime, I had to try to cross two lanes of traffic to get to the side of the road. Not a good thing to attempt in rush hour traffic near chicago. I had it towed in, but unsure of the problem or the cost at this time.
Well, I was driving i75 when my car did not respond when I press my accelerator pedal right in the middle of the high way. I was scared, sometimes in a busy streets would do the same thing. I would press and floor it and after a second will start real fast. This situations were happening very often. Took it to Nissan and they say that I need a new transmission. I just bought the car 2 months prior to this. Is not acceptable that this kind of problem would happen. I called headquarters Nissan and they simply say. Nothing they can do about it. I paid $3900 dollars for repairs and Nissan refuses to recognize the problem with the cvt transmissions. Read all the reports. I am very upset.
The car does not accelerate from stop at times. Seems more often to happen when car is warm and has been in use for a min of 30 min. Sometimes the car does not move when accelerator is pushed 1/4 or 1/2 or even to the firewall. Sometime the car will move forward and give impression that it will respond to gas pedal input but then stall ( motor does not stop but forward motion does). The real problem is when crossing moving traffic with the traffic at 65 mph that I pull out and then stall. It’s russian roulette. Nissan dealer says it could be x,y or z and I cannot start to change parts where Nissan cannot affirm will fix the problem. The car is in my opinion close to a "death trap" due to this stalling. I refuse to believe it’s the transmission as sometime it works fine. Component of causation is unknown but with so many complaints it should be identified by now or will it take a death to get the wheels in motion.
Different mechanics have looked at it and I have spent over a 1,000 just this month on trying to fix it but they say it is an engine problem that these car have. I see many complaints and nothing is done by Nissan. I believe just like everyone else with this problem should have Nissan take care of it. I am a mother of 3 and take very good care of my car so that is runs good. I almost had an accident of the freeway because of this problem at the speed of 65 mph. This has happen numerous times now and seems to be happening more often now. Today while trying to make a left turn and the car wouldn't move we almost got hit by a big rental truck, thank god the gentleman was able to make a quick stop and we didn't get hit. Please see what can be done. Nissan should be held accountable for something wrong with these cars that they already know is there manufactures fault. Are they going to wait till someone gets killed???.
Tl-the contact owns a 2004 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that there was gas fumes emitted outside of the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to dealer who stated that the exhaust manifold needed to be replaced to repair the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of this failure. The VIN was not available. The approximate failure mileage was 39,000. Rg.
There has not been a wreck yet, but if my 16 year old daughter continues to drive this car there will be a wreck. We bought our 16 year old daughter a 2004 Nissan Murano. The driver side sun visor randomly drops down while she is driving. Nissan wants 400. 00 to replace the sun visor. This is a defect in the vehicle. I have gone online there are 100's of compliants about the 2004 Nissan Murano's sunvisor. I want to issue a formal compliant about this very serious problem!!!.
The car loses power as you are driving, you press on the accelerator and it seems as if it is in neutral, you can press all the way to the floor and it doesn't move or goes very slow and then it lurches forward. Other times, you have to turn off the engine and then restart for it to move forward. There is no warning, nothing.
After driving for about 20 minutes, my car won't react to my gas pedal. It hesitates, then lurches before finally catching up to speed. I've gone online and found that countless Murano owners have had the same front transfer case problems in their late model cars and that Nissan refuses to do a recall although Toyota has for similar issues. This is a defect which they apparently corrected in their newer models, but continues to be a serious safety issue for those of us who own 2004 models or older.

I purchased a used 2004 Nissan Murano in August 2013 as is, and unaware of any issues with the vehicle. I transport disabled people in my vehicle, as part of my job. About 2 weeks after purchasing the car I was making a left hand turn in an intersection on a yellow flashing arrow with oncoming traffic doing speeds of 50 mph, when suddenly as I pushed down on the gas pedal, I had no power and the car would not move. In a panic I pushed the gas pedal to the floor and nothing, but then suddenly the car lunged forward and took off at a high rate of speed. This was terrifying and I had 2 disabled people in my car at the time. I was so scared. ! the car seemed to drive fine after that for a couple more weeks, and then suddenly with no warning after turning out of a driveway in front of traffic doing about 35mph, the vehicle once again did the same thing. I took it to a Nissan dealer and told them what had happened and they said without a code showing they couldn't do anything. This is a very dangerous issue, that could lead to people being seriously injured or killed, and yet there is no recall for this problem. This is very sporadic when it happens, and you don't get any warning it's going to happen! I am now making a payment on a car, that I am scared to drive, and more so transport disabled people in, so I have elected to park the vehicle and drive my kia. This is not right, or fair. And after reading posts online about this issue, it is a very we'll documented problem with these cars, and yet nothing is being done about it. What does it take to get a recall on these vehicles, before innocent people are killed???.
When vehicle is driven a bit the transmission has no power on startup at light. You have to pump the accelerator several times before regaining power. After this is happened the transmission looses power at all different speeds. This is truly unsafe and I am afraid to drive it on a freeway.
The sun visor on the driver's side will not stay in the upward or "not in use" position. While driving it will fall down blocking my vision while driving. . Dealership said they are aware of the problem. I purchased a new visor and had it instlled at a ridiculous cost of over $200. They said that I could buy a new one or just use velcoro to hold it up. The driver's side visor will still fall down at random times blocking my vision and at times at very crucial moments. I feel this is a major safety hazard and a defect product installed by Nissan. In the beginning I tried to get Nissan to fix. This is a safety hazard. I am hoping to get a refund if it is recalled.
I was driving the vehicle in residential area, it sounded like metal was grinding the vehicle filled with smoke, and . Completely shut off. I had to have vehicle towed to the dealer as it was unable to function. As soon as the mechanic turned on the car he stated it was the transfer case. From my research the transfer case is connected to the transmission as well as the front and rear axles by means of drive shaft. This is a definite safety issue, if I was driving on a highway and this happened and the vehicle stalled I would have been in a terrible car crash. The dealer said it was not covered under the warranty and the cost of repair was $3,800. 00. This sis ridiculous. Nissan should do a recall on this part. I searched the internet and there are so many complaints about the same issue in the same make/model and year of this vehicle. Something needs to be done, Nissan should issue a recall on this part its very dangerous. For the people who have already paid should receive a refund or partial refund because this is a common problem and it is in fact a safety issue. I just thank god my children were not in the vehicle at that time. .
Driver side visor won't stay up. Problem started 6 years ago. Inherent problem design as replacing the visor will only solve the problem for a season and then it will happen again.
In about Feb 2010 something went wrong with our 04 Nissan Murano. We took the Murano to Nissan of roseville, CA, and they told us in addition to the actual reason we were there, that our transmission needed to be replaced. We explained that we didn't feel anything different while driving. Mike (service guy) told us the 2004 Murano has a huge problem with transmissions failing, and Nissan has since redeveloped the cvt trans, and should be replaced. And the warranty is expiring at 80,000 miles, and would not be covered any longer. We were reluctant, but after speaking further with mike, and now feeling scared that my wife will be stuck somewhere with a broken trans, we did reluctantly let Nissan do the repairs. Out of fear of future failure. Shortly after, Nissan extended the trans warranty to 120,000, or 10 years. Now, the Murano has just under 137k, and the transmission broke while my wife was on the freeway, and only by my wife's quick thinking, did she avoid a collision with another car. The whole car shuts down, even if you press the gas down to the floor. Nothing happens. She was able to restart the car, and slowly (5mph) move over to the shoulder of the freeway. I hope you understand how scary this scenario was. So now we call Nissan consumer affairs, gave them the details of the car (yr make model VIN miles) over the phone. Nissan asked that I tow the car to the dealer, so I did the next day (Friday 28th). I received a call Monday morning (31st), and pat from Nissan consumer affairs told me there was nothing they could do since it was out of warranty. We did not want the trans replaced at 65,000 miles, but the dealership used scare tactics, and assured us that the new transmissions will not be a problem. My wife was almost in a crash on the freeway, because of this very common issue. I believe Nissan should recall these transmission due to the safety hazard.
