1 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 04/22/2011

In 2006 we received a recall letter about Nissan having problems with the fuel tank. We had the protection guard installed by Nissan as per NHTSA recall. In April 2011 we were driving on highway and hit something small in the road that punctured the fuel tank. The item was so small no one in the car saw it. The protective shielding, which was a thin piece of plastic, shattered and failed to protect the tank.

2 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 02/04/2011

Service engine light illuminates with resulting failure as evaportive emmisions leak. Dealing surface around fuel filler neck slightly corroded leading to evaporative leak and possible tank sealing issues.

3 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 06/29/2006

About one year ago I filed a complaint with both Nissan and the NHTSA concerning a punctured fuel tank. Nissan informed me that in the event NHTSA required a recall with respect to the fuel delivery system, Nissan would contact me to refund the cost of my repair. On June 29, 2006, I learned that NHTSA had closed the matter on January 31, 2006, with a requirement that Nissan correct the deficiency through a recall campaign. I confirmed with a NHTSA representative that such a campaign had been initiated by Nissan. I never received a recall notice from Nissan. Nor did I receive a communication from Nissan that they would live up to their promise of reimbursement. (they have now said they will do so with proof of repair which can only be confirmed by a Nissan dealer. ) I called Nissan and they asked whether I had moved or changed the registration on the vehicle. I responded no, nothing had changed since I purchased the vehicle new at luther Nissan in inver grove heights, minnesota. The Nissan representative (grace) in hyderabad, india, who did an excellent job of taking my information, informed me that there were not one, but two recalls on the vehicle. The second one concerns the seat belts. I never received notice of this recall either. Here we have not one but two safety-related NHTSA recalls that this Nissan customer (this is my fourth Nissan automobile) has failed to receive the recall notices on. Interestingly, Nissan has no problem with sending my monthly bill for Nissan financing through approximately 25 months to get my bills to me. This is highly troubling and requires immediate correction on Nissan's part.

4 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/30/2006

I received notice of the fuel tank recall for my 2004 Nissan Murano, however, new city Nissan is not providing the recall service satisfactorily.

5 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 12/15/2005

Something on the road punctured gas tank. Noticed gas smell in driveway & saw the damage. Replaced gas tank at Nissan dealership looking for compensation due to recall also still needs shield put in.

6 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2005

The consumer stated while driving at 55 mph he hit road debris and it punctured the gas tank on his 2004 Nissan Murano. The consumer saw an article in the wall street journal about a similar situation. The vehicle was fixed by a repairman. The consumer contacted Nissan and they said that if there was a recall they would contact him. The dealer has not been contacted at this time.

7 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 05/15/2005

Punctured gas tank from debris on highway. No warning lights, etc. . Drove 45 miles leaking gas. Didn't realize it until we stopped the car and smelled gasoline very strongly. Had car towed to dealership for replacement of gas tank (which took 3 efforts to get it right) very concerned as to how easy it was to have gas tank punctured, either from material it's made of or location. Probably both!.

8 Tank Assembly problem

Failure Date: 08/05/2004

The consumer's vehicle swerved to hit debris in the roadway. The debris struck the gas tank, resulting in a gas leak. 18 gallons of gas spilled from the tank. No fires or injuries reported. The vehicle was towed to a dealer and the gas tank was replaced. No problems with the gas tank since replacement of gas tank. The consumer paid out of pocket for the repairs.
