1 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/05/2015

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that the rear passenger side door would not unlock from the inside or outside with a key. The failure recurred continuously. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 124,000.

2 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 01/19/2013

Passenger door does not lock or unlock from the outside. Rear hatch door does not unlock and will not open. I checked online and there are hundreds of complaints about Nissan Murano lock actuators posing problems and not working. Nissan dealerships charge approximately $500 to fix each actuator, which seems extremely unfair considering it appears to be such a common defect. This is not only an unnecessary and preventable problem, but can be an extremely safety hazard.

3 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 01/15/2013

In mid Jan, 2013 I noticed that after locking with the key fob, the front door remained unlocked, and would not lock from inside the car with either the individual lock control or the whole car lock control. The only way to lock the door is with your key, from the outside. In the event of an accident you do not have the added safety of a locked drivers door. All other doors are operating correctly at this time. The web seems to be filled with other problems like this and I wonder if they realize the danger they face when all doors are not locked in the event of an accident.

4 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 12/14/2012

Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. It's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. Remember, in this case there's no obvious indication the door isn't locked unless someone walks up and opens it from the outside. The drive "thinks" the door is locked, when in reality it's an "open door" for carjacking or robbery. This failure is an intermittent of operation. Sometimes the doors lock ok, other times they don't. In addition, sometimes the doors unlock ok, other times they don't. 3. In emergencies it's important to be able to unlock doors quickly. Since 99% of the time we all use the button to lock and unlock doors, using the manual locking lever is unfamiliar. And the Murano's design is such that it's not easy to comprehend if it's not your car, for instance a rental car. I can easily understand how some people would be confused how unlock a door using the manual level in an emergency when they virtually have no experience with it. In emergencies every second counts. The locking/unlocking solenoid malfunctioning is clearly a high risk in emergency scenarios. Some people who cannot afford the $1600 to have all the solenoids replaced (as quoted by dealers) will forgo getting them fixed, putting their family members at risk with the above mishap examples. This shouldn't be, Nissan should recall them. It's only a matter of time till someone gets robbed, hurt or killed from a malfunctioning door lock, disabling the security which the driver "thinks" he has when he locks the car. It's a lawsuit waiting to happen.

5 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/06/2012

First the passenger side electric door locks were failing to lock or unlock, within weeks both rear locks started failing! this is a very major safety concern for my wife and daughter. Plus in the drive the other night it didn't lock and someone got in and vandalized the interior and took personal items.

Failure Date: 05/30/2012

The front driver side door lock actuator is malfunctioning.

7 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 10/11/2011

Has faulty electronic locks. Viewed as a safety issue as it prevents the ability to get in and/or out in a quick and efficient manner should there be an emergency. The door will not unlock/lock using the electronic devices or buttons and in order to unlock the door you have to open another door and reach over and manually unlock. I have significant concerns related to my and my family's safety in the vehicle. After research it appears that this problem is common and Nissan is not taking any responsibility to replace or repair causing significant (up to $1600) financial cost to the owner.

8 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 09/11/2011

Electronic door lock on the driver side would sporadically unlock or lock door. . . Now is all the time and must be locked manually. This is a safety hazard when trying enter the vehicle in an un secure environment or can result in stolen merchandise or parts left in the vehicle. Driver side sun visor also well not stay in upright position and drops suddenly blocking the view of the driver.

Front door locks don't work with remote or proximity fob.

10 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2011

Driver side door actuator failed and repair parts ordered 8/10/11. It had failed on numerous occasions and completely in August, 2011, and it becomes a safety issue as it prevents access from the drivers side. Access has to be made from the passenger side or from the rear door. It costs $431 to repair.

11 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/01/2011

All door locks do not function with the fob or the internal door lock button. Must manually lock/unlock all doors. Condition worsens in warm weather. This is a serios safety hazard - I have two small children and in an emergency I would not be able to get them into or out of the vehicle quickly. Nissan won't even escalate my concern until I pay to have one of their dealerships look at it, but I know from reading other posts that once I do they will still refuse to fix it.

12 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/22/2011

The contact owns a 2005 Nissan Murano. The contact stated that all four door locks could not be locked or unlocked from the interior or exterior of the vehicle. The remote control key lock was also inoperable. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who advised that there were no recalls for the failure. The manufacturer was notified who also advised the contact that there were no recalls for the vehicle and offered no further assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 80,000 and the current mileage was 106,000.

13 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/01/2011

My 2005 Nissan Murano locks to all four doors, trunk and gas tank malfunction frequently. I have been stranded with no gas because I have been unable to unlock the gas tank for a period of time. There is no "key" opening for the gas tank, hatch in the back or 3 passenger doors-only the driver's side door. I have already had the actuators replaced once on both sides of the car a couple of years ago and now they are broken again. This is a saftey concern because we can not be sure the doors are locked, can not obtain gas, can not access the trunk area, or unlock passenger doors on frequent basis. Sometimes, they work and sometimes they don't. The cost to replace the actuators is around $1600. That is a significant amount of money to burden the owner of the vehicle when clearly there is a defect in the car. There are so many Murano owners with the same problem. Nissan needs to recall and replace the actuators for the lifetime of the car. This is a significant saftey issue!.

14 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 05/18/2011

Door locks not functioning properly. Will not lock/unlock from fob or interior switch on the interior of the vehicle. This is a safety concern because in the event of a crash you may not be able to unlock the doors to exit the vehicle or it may prevent emergency medical personnel to easily gain access to the vehicle. It is also a concern because it can potentially leave the vehicle vulnerable to potential theft of items in the interior of the vehicle since they don't reliably lock.

15 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 04/27/2011

I have a 2005 Nissan Murano. The door actuator has failed on numerous occassions. The front driver side fails intermittently as well as the rear door latch. The passenger side door will not open at all. Truly this is a safety issue and should be corrected by Nissan. Currently, I have seen nor heard of any recall.

19 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 11/15/2010

1. Having a secure environment is paramount in certain neighborhoods. When locking the doors it's imperative nobody can gain access at will by walking up to the car. If anyone can simply open the door to gain access, carjacking, injury, or even murder is easier. If the doors locked properly this provides a more secure environment for this type of scenario. 2. Nissan knowing there is a security problem with their locking mechanism and not recalling them for safety concern is negligent. It's an open door to a lawsuit if someone were to be murdered due to a door that didn't lock, although the driver pushed the lock button and heard the locking noise. I work and go to school I can not leave those two buildings to check and see if someone has broken into my car every minute because the doors don't lock or unlock it's unsafe for me and my children and I have a disabled child as well I paid too much money to purchase this nice vehicle I want every little thing to work properly for me and my family considering I haven't had it a year yet.

22 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 09/10/2010

Lock on driver side door failed and does not lock or unlock properly. Makes this unsafe at night as I work a night job and if the car did not lock properly could be safety issue, also getting into the car as the Murano is designed to be keyless, in a hurry to take the key off the key fob is time consuming and in a panic usage. Locks just stopped working after had been working fine. I feel this is a safety issue and Nissan should repair free of charge, as many other people have had same issue, I have never heard of so many of same complaints from other car makers.

23 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 08/15/2010

I am having the problem on my 05 Nissan Murano, the passenger front door does not lock or unlock with the remote. This is big safety issue. Yesterday my gas door failed on me ones.

24 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 08/10/2010

Three of the door actuators that control the automatic locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano are not working. One of them has been broken for a year, the other two just went. This is a safety issue, and judging from how many other people have this problem with the same car, Nissan should provide replacements for these. If I do it myself it will cost well over $1,000, and there's no telling when the other two locks will go. Right now, the two door locks that are broken have to be opened from inside manually. The back tailgate cannot open at all, as the actuator is the only way I know of being able to unlock it.

25 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/28/2010

Driver side door lock is difficult to lock and unlock by hand. The automatic key fob is unable to be used, also. This occurs every day, and I am concerned if there is a crash the driver will be trapped. I am fearful also of driving with my car door unlocked. Updated 11/16/bf.

26 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/25/2010

'05 Nissan Murano-the door locks on my '05 Nissan Murano do not always lock/unlock electronically. Sometimes they will lock and sometimes they will not. I have not been able to consistently reproduce the problem but it seems that the door lock actuator is getting weak or something is preventing the proper current from getting to the actuator. It could be a combination of the two problems, sending weak current over time has caused the door actuators to become weak, and as a result magnified the current problem. Regardless of what has caused the problem, the fact is, there are multiple people having the issue, and it is not as a result of normal wear and tear. This is a manufacturing or design flaw and therefore should be addressed by Nissan. This is one of the most basic functions of the car and it does not perform reliably. I cannot even begin to express the safety issue of thinking that a door is locked when it is not. And if there is a bigger electrical problem, then it most definitely needs to be addressed.

27 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/21/2010

Four out of five of the door locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano do not work and the drivers side sun visor falls down everytime the car moves. Both are serious safety issues.

28 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/16/2010

Driver's door and rear passenger door locks will not lock when actuated from the door power lock or the remote power lock. This is a danger because it means door locks can not be relied to power lock or unlock in the event of an emergency.

29 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

My 2005 Nissan Murano lock actuator on the driver side went out.

30 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/10/2010

The locks on my 2005 Nissan Murano have started to not work unless manually operated. First, the rear passenger side door would not open or close with either the button or key fob, only manually, and then it was stiff. This went on for several months and then the front passenger door also began to fail, only operating manually. Shortly thereafter the rear hatch/trunk door also intermittently fails to open, though with the rear door, there is no manual open. The Nissan dealership inspected it and insists that the door actuators need to be replaced on all affected doors, which is very expensive. And upon doing online research, this is a common problem on Murano's and other Nissan vehicles. The lock problem presents a potential safety hazard of not being able to open doors in a timely manner in case of fire, and also in retrieving infants and children from the car, which I do on a daily basis. In addition, if more door locks were to freeze up, there is only one manual key entry into the car.

31 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 07/06/2010

I own a 2005 Nissan Murano se awd and have experienced progressive problems with my door lock actuators resulting in an unsafe vehicle presumed to be secure. At approximately 50k miles, the right front passenger door lock became intermittently inoperative when using either the interior door lock switch or the intelligent key fob button. Then, at approximately 54k miles, the right rear passenger door lock also became intermittently inoperative in the same manner. Now, at 59k miles, all doors except the driver's door do not operate with either the interior door lock switch or the intelligent key fob button. Recently, the vehicle was taken to a Nissan dealership service department, where they diagnosed it as a problem with the door lock actuator. Further, I was told that the front right door lock actuator is a control point for all other door locks. This is of great concern as I was assuming, as I'm sure others have, that I was driving in a secure vehicle when in fact, I was unsecured from four other entry points to my vehicle. This poses a threat to my and any of my passengers' presumed personal safety from would-be assailants gaining access to the vehicle through locks thought to be secure. This could also have serious - even fatal - ramifications in the event of an accident if the doors of the vehicle are thought to be locked (having no reason to believe otherwise), but were not. This creates the serious potential of occupants to be thrown from a vehicle door that could open during an accident due to faulty door lock actuators. Even in my short search online, I have found numerous calls for action by other drivers, particularly of the 2004-2005 model years of my same vehicle. This is not an isolated occurrence. Immediate corrective remedial action must be taken by Nissan USA to resolve this life-threatening defect.

32 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/20/2010

The door lock actuators are not working on my 2005 Nissan Murano. I can open the trunk.

33 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/19/2010

Since spring 2009, our 2005 Nissan Murano passenger door lock has been failing to open when using either the remote key fob or the driver door lock. Also rear hatch has been similarly failing to unlock/lock. Situation has progressed from 20-30% of the time to 90% of the time failing to function.

34 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/18/2010

Power lock on passenger door on 2005 Nissan Murano would not lock or unlock it.

35 Latches/locks/linkage problem

Failure Date: 06/15/2010

2005 Nissan Murano door locks fail to lock and unlock. I have a 2005 Murano and the door locks recently have stopped working. The lock will not lock or unlock with the remote or with the door lock button on driver or passenger door. This is even a bigger problem having a 2 year old in the vehicle and the only way to unlock the door is manually. Since there is no key hole on the rear doors you have to climb through the vehicle to lock the door. I can't even lock the door if she manually moves the lock with her hand I can't lock it from the driver side control. The problem started with the driver lock, then progressed to the rear right door, now three of the 4 doors are affected and also the rear hatch. It is not an option to open if you can't use the unlock button. There is no manual release button to unlock the hatch. This can a public problem for ever attempting to get a child out of a car in the case of any emergency.
